  1. This was one of the most disgusting things I ever saw. Like a faucet being turned on (the blood pouring out of his throat).
  2. Saying green will struggle because Gamel did is friggin' moronic. I mean, if he said they just aren't comfortable with a young guy like Green, okay. Or if he said young guys more often than not struggle first time up, and they don't want to risk that, okay. But this is just plain dumb. Should we find a player that hit well when he came up to justify bringing up Green? That would be equally stupid. The question should be can Green outplay McGehee? I say yes, but this excuse is plain lame.
  3. has anyone seem furcal since he's come back from his injury? If he's healthy, ideally, he's the guy the Brewers get. he brings much more to the table than carrol. however, he's been terrible when he's played. i'm curious as to what people might have seen in him of late. how about getting carrol and furcal and casey blake. cut yuni and either counsel or wilson. send down mcgehee. i can dream.
  4. unfortunately, counsel isn't providing any of that. if they Crew got Carrol, i'd be interested to see who they cut - Wilson, Betencourt or Counsel. Counsel is lefthanded - but he's hitting so badly, i don't even know if that would save him. at least he's still a good fielder. Yuni's lack of versatility in the field might make him the release candidate. But counsel has just hit so badly, it almost has to be him.
  5. Carrol has some specific hitting skills - good average, good OBP, takes walks, doesn't strike out a ton. He has little to no power. He's very consistent - his OPS have ranged from .695-.720 over the past four years. You pretty much know what you're getting with him at the plate. He's average (at best) fielder at SS - probably a bit below average. He's versatile - can play OF corners, SS, 3B, 2B. At 37, he probably shouldn't play every day. His ability to get on base consistently is his biggest strength as a hitter. He would at this time - without question - be an upgrade over Yuni or McGehee. He's a free agent after the season, but I think he'd be a perfect guy for 2012 as well.
  6. This is just insulting people.
  7. McGehee and Yuni have broken out with 3 for 5 nights each. Let's close this thread!
  8. One benefit that might come out of bringing up Green and sending down McGehee is that it would give Casey some breathing space to get his game back together. No doubt he's under a lot of pressure to perform. That's the nature of the game. But I think sending him down and letting him regain his hitting stroke in a less pressure-filled situation might be the best thing. If he goes 0-20 at Nashville the Brewers aren't going through those pains. But if he can get things going after a few weeks or a month, then great. Nothing he is doing at the major league level is helping him now. Let him try to rebound where it doesn't hurt, and he has the time and space to work on things.
  9. As long as it's not the Cardinals. I hate the Cardinals. Pirates would be better than the Reds, but in the end, anybody but St. Louis.
  10. Well, we are willing to employ (and frequently use) Mark Kotsay. So there is a fresh dose of insanity active in the Brewer organization. However, I totally agree with you. Bring up Green, focus on replacing Yuni. It's not like we expect Green to turn in a .900 OPS in Milwaukee. Not even .800. But his defense is better than McGehee's and he certainly has a good chance to outhit him. Why spend rare currency (in this case prospects) when you have an option at AAA? Sure it's riskier, but you can't keep trading our best prospects. PS - I love Headley. I think it would take a lot to get him. But a lot more than what people are suggesting.
  11. Morgan is a perfect platoon guy. Don't expect him to start 150 games. Maybe 120. But he can be incredibly effective in those games. He has been a great pickup.
  12. I've seen this comment several times too, and I agree, it's ridiculous. You get your best players on the field. Whether they are rookies or 15 year vets, you put them on the field. McGehee is, frankly, playing TERRIBLE. He's as bad (if not worse) than Yuni. If we have a guy at AAA who can possibly do better - make the move.
  13. I seriously doubt the Pirates will be standing at the end of the season - but it's great for them and their fans. Even a taste of winning makes things happens. I hope they can at least manage to stay above .500. I remember how big that was for the Brewers a few years ago. Great story. Good for Pittsburgh.
  14. Maybe you don't think so, but I disagree. All it takes is a move or two and some good uck, and a team can go on a tear. If that happens in the playoffs, you're gold. To me, a World Series team has good top-of-the-rotation pitching. Gallard, Marcum and Greinke can be that (have they been this year - no, but they can). The rest is a bit of luck (health, guys getting hot, etc.) and maybe even a roster move or two. The first step to the World Series is making the playoffs. We are in the thick of it, and we have 6 weeks to get our roster in order. There are definitely things that need doing, but it's not impossible.
  15. I generally don't care much about a manager. I think it's mostly common sense. Macha and Yost seemed to have had personality traits that didn't gel with players. I understand that's part of the game - and if things aren't working, it happens. That said, with regard to RRR, I am still in disbelief at several aspects of his line up management. Plus some in game decision making as well. 1. The (over)use of Mark Kotsay is beyond explanation. He was batting the #3 spot this weekend. Mark Kotsay! 2. His (over)use of Loe is baffling as well. Loe vs Votto with the game on the line? Sounds like a plan to me. Players - like most people - thrive on 'roles'. But RRR's 'Loe is our 8th inning guy' commitment was over done. Roles should be a guideline - not a strict rule of thumb. And in the case of Loe, he has NEVER been that good that he should be given the benefit of the doubt about his role. His lack of flexibility is astonishing in some instances. 3. He seems to forget he has options in the bullpen. 4. His banishment of Lucroy from Wolf starts is really stupid. At least we have Kottaras to play in these games instead of Nieves. But when a left is playing, and Lucroy isn't in the lineup because Wolf is being a baby, that just kills me. 5. That McGehee hit 5th for so long is dumb as well.
  16. Yuni in the field - the guy looks lazy too often. He lets balls go through the hole without much of an effort. While Prince and McGehee stink in the field, it doesn't look as if they aren't trying hard. Gomez and Yuni at the plate. They swing at so much junk it's unbelievable. It just frustrates me. Counsel at the plate. He looks like he's going up there hoping to get a walk. Painful.
  17. Removing Betencourt and McGehee from the field would help this quite a bit. How much is a good guess, but those two, combined with Prince, makes for a brutal infield defense. Bring up Green. Get a defensive guy at SS. As for the pitchers, the good thing is that I see definite room for improvement with Greinke with the ERA. He's too good for that to continue. Marcum is pitching about like I'd expected him, Wolf a little better, Gallardo a bit worse. Narvy is about what I expected out of the 5th slot. Health will be important too. We don't want Estrada in the rotation. Still, improving the defense will be a boost to ALL the pitchers. We're past the all-star break. It's time to get replacements for McGehee and Yuni. I think all these moves could move us more to the middle of the pack.
  18. The Brewers have to make something happen at 3B and SS. It's just that simple. Betencourt and McGehee are just terrible - and have been for more than 1/2 the season. With McGehee, you send him to AAA. Let him try and work his way back without killing the club. Bring up Green, let him play. He's better defensively (according to reports), and it's unlikely he's going to hit worse than McGehee. As for Betencourt, there's no minor league option like we have with McGehee. And his lack of recent success makes it unlikely he's going to get better (unlike McGehee, who might be able to rebound into a decent player). That means you cut Betencourt and find an alternative via trade, free agency, whatever. It doens't have to be earth shattering. If you get a SS who field the ball above average and gets a .600 OPS - you're doing better than Betencourt. Such a move (along with the Green move) would improve our defense dramatically on the left side of the field.
  19. I think the O's will try hard to resign Hardy to a 3-year deal - he provides a solid presence on a young team who have some solid young pitchers, plus some hitters that (probably) will improve (Jones, Weiters, Markakis). Losing Hardy would only cripple an already bad offense. But they have lots of questions, even with Hardy. I think they will attack that by going after Prince big-time this off season. They don't have a 1st baseman, and down the road, they could move Prince to DH if they want. The O's have shown a willingness to make a big play - like they did with Teixeira a couple of years ago. Resigning JJ gives them a solid shortstop - and a good friend of Prince. I'm not saying they'll resign JJ just to try and make things more attractive to Prince, but it doesn't hurt. Prince would freaking rake at Camden Yards. Assuming he got pitched to. Having Prince in the lineup would really help the O's hitters.
  20. Can someone give a scouting report on green's defense? I've never seen him play and wondered what he would be like, especially compared to mcgehee. Thanks.
  21. Riggleman is going out having fun. Drinking it up with young women. Tearing into the local beat writers. Ripping players. Awesome. http://content.usatoday.c...hotos-drinking-ripping/1
  22. I'd be happy to give Green a try. Bring him up, give him a few starts at 3B, light a fire under Casey. Or it gives us a (potentially) more useful lefthanded bat on the bench than what we have. But most of all, cut Yuni and let Counsel and Wilson (or some other guy) get the job at SS.
  23. i thought wins were the determining factor if a pitcher is pitching well http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  24. Dumb move by Riggleman. Sure he was in a bad spot. But now he looks like he bailed on his team for money. That just doesn't look right. And let's be clear - we're not talking about a legendary or highly successful guy here. He's friggin' Jim Riggleman. But, the team was winning. He had managed to help get them to that point, so why not stick it out - even if you know you're not going to be around next year. Now, no one will trust him. He'll always be known as the guy who quit on his team over a contract dispute. I know there are many other factors, but that's what is will look like.
  25. Keppinger is a nice player, but from all I've read about him, he's a bad shortstop, and no one really sees him as one. Before he got hurt, the Astro's were interested in trading him, and the reports were pretty much the same - he's not a shortstop. Good, solid player, but not a SS (beyond an occasional fill in).
