  1. Forgot about Garcia. We have to replace - or pony up some serious cash to keep - him.
  2. I would love Olson - he's a great player. But I think the rising cost of players (see the list put together by Monty). Add in the players it would cost - and it's just not an ideal situation. I'm guessing Olson would cost something like Mitchell, Turang and Houser. Just a rough guess.
  3. Wiemer was not on a lot of lists as this was his first season in pro ball - and when voting occurred - his numbers were good - but not amazing or anything (75 games, 13 HR, .276 BA, .868 OPS at A- Carolina). But then he was called up to A+ Wisconsin on Aug. 9 - and went on a friggin' tear. 14 HR, .336 BA, 1.146 OPS - in just 34 games. It was an amazing run. But it wasn't figured into this year's midseason vote. If we voted now - things would - undoubtably - be very different. I'd say the same thing about Freddy Zamora (although not quite as dramatically). He was hitting around .248 at the end of July. He then hit .371 the rest of the way out - ending up at .300 for the year.
  4. Reyes will be gone. Fans will roast him.
  5. They gave him the green light. Oh well.
  6. My brain knows the Dodgers are a better team - and should want them to lose. But I hate the Cardinals - and my heart would be happy if they lost.
  7. With William's injury, I think it's less likely the team considers trading Hader this off season since Williams likely would have taken the closer role. Can't say it won't happen - the Williams' injury might make a deal less likely.
  8. One long term ramification may be that the Brewers will be less likely to consider a Hader trade this off season. If Hader was dealt, the logical thing would be to elevate Williams to the closer role. But I don't see this happening until Williams has shown he's recovered from he injury. Just a thought.
  9. I just saw this news. Just boggles the mind. Sigh.
  10. Tough loss for SF. I still wince at the Yelich injury a couple of years ago. Can make a big difference.
  11. "Let me stand next to your fire"
  12. Regarding Yelich as a 1B option. 1. I believe he played 1B in high school. At least, that's what people have said. So it's not like it would be totally new to him. He seems athletic enough to make such as move. 2. As noted, perhaps it would help temper some of the various injuries he's dealt with over the year (or not - just an idea). 3. Yelich is a pretty tall guy - so it seems like he'd have the extra length a lot of people want in a 1B. 4. It's not like we're moving the world's greatest LF from the game. While he won a gold glove in 2014, his defense was never that great, and it has steadily deteriorated. It gives the team an opportunity to improve the OF defense by making the move. 5. Our options are not that great at this time. Vogelbach. Tellez. Hiura. We've got Yelich for the next 7 years. He makes far too much money to not play. It doesn't have to be 1B - but there are some good reasons for it. And even if he's not that great - even a mediocre Yelich can be a positive.
  13. I remember playing fantasy baseball many years ago, and one of the guys drafted a ton of all-star players - from 5-8 years earlier. In his defense, he just didn't know that much, and was going with 'names'. Unfortunately, most of the names were past their primes (some of them really past their prime). I think he came in last that year.
  14. True. However, if you are serious about maintaining continued success over the long term, which is what Attanasio and Stearns have repeatedly stated as their goal, then they will eventually trade away star players rather than have them leave for nothing in free agency. I think it comes down to two things. First, if someone blows you away with a trade offer - go for it. Second, what the Brewers expectations? We will likely go into 2022 believing we can do big things. In that case, Hader should be a part of the team. If at the trade deadline next year (or next offseason or 2023 mid-season), the team has faltered for whatever reason - well, then you move Josh. Hader is gold for a team hoping to win it all. But if we falter - well, then he's a luxury - and you look to deal.
  15. MacDonald on Letterman talking about Bob Uecker. Awesome.
  16. MacDonald was brilliant. Just such a smart comedian. RIP Turd Ferguson.
  17. I could see this happening - but probably not for at least another year. But yeah, Yelich as 1B might be in our best long term interests.
  18. I don't think Milwaukee will be playing much in free agency in the offseason due to rising player costs. A quick look at the team salaries shows upwards of $35M+ in raises due. Yelich's contract goes up from $14M to $26M. Hader, Woodruff, Narvaez, Suter, Peterson and Vogelbach are all due arbitration raises. Urias, Burnes, Lauer, Tellez and Adamas are hitting arby for the first time. Some of the arby guys won't see much of a raise - but a lot of them will. Hader, Woodruff, Urias, Burnes, Lauer, Narvaez and Adames all should see raises of $2-4M (or more). That's going to add up quick. None of this takes into account the free agents - Garcia, Pina, Strickland, Boxberger and Escobar. Perhaps we bump up salaries a lot. Or we trade someone (such as Hader). Or maybe the new CBA improves our buying power. We shall see. I wouldn't be surprised that any money we do spend is to resign Escobar or Garcia.
  19. A a lights out closer is a luxury on a lot of team. But not on a really good club. I think we plan on being a really good team - so I'm all for keeping him. As people note - we have a window - let's maximize it with really good players. All that said, if someone blows you away with an offer - you have to listen. But keep him price tag high.
  20. I'm just enjoying this club. It's a good team. It's not like last year - where even if we made the playoffs, most people never expected the club to go far (and they were right). Solid offense. Good defense. Great pitching. It's just a nice mix. Kudos to the front office for making a lot of in season moves. Adames was the big one. It just ignited this club. Anyhow, just enjoying the club. I see some good things for them in October.
  21. Put Small in the pen and bring him along the same way they've done with the rest of these successful starters they're developing. Keep Houser, a good mid to back end of the rotation guy in the rotation until the results show he's not suited for that role. This is how I see things playing out. Ashby replaces Anderson. That gives you six guys - just like this year. It seems to have worked out pretty well. Small then plays the Ashby role as needed. To me, that's pretty sweet. Now, that said, if someone comes with you with a deal you love in exchange for Lauer or Houser - sure - do it. But otherwise, this is a rotation we can ride. I'd do that - and then sign a bat (such as Escobar).
  22. I think the good thing is that we have had more hits than misses this year. Feliciano and Kelly have struggled with injuries. Lutz has again failed to deliver. But Ashby, Small, Turang, Weimer, Gray - and a bunch of others - have raised their profile stock. Plus adding Black and Frelick is great. Thus, we are better. Perhaps not top 15 - but 20ish or whatever isn't a bad move. Regarding the rankings we have seen, we have to remember many of those were done months ago. None of them could take into account Ashby's work at the major league level, for instance. What the Brewers probably lack are the type of prospects that not only have big tools and production (and pedigree) but few - if any - question marks. The amazing thing is how we have been able to develop players who have had serious question marks. Burnes, Woodruff and Peralta are all great success stories. I hope Ashby is the next one. In the end, I think we've improved - and quite a bit. And it'll be fascinating to see how our investment in the Latin American market turns out. I think we have some great chances to develop some special players. But that takes time.
  23. Nets added Milsap for minimum. Great signing for the price. Nets are looking good - if a bit old.
  24. Freddy Zamora quietly having a nice season. He's up to .290 with an .800 OPS on the year. 13%+ walk rate. Strikeout rate is below 20%. .394 OBP. Considering he barely played for two straight seasons - it's a nice showing. He's almost 23, so he's a bit older than his peers - so I suspect they'll move him aggressively. The big thing will be if he can add a little power. No matter, I think a lot of people downgraded him after he started the season pretty 'meh'.
