  1. Yeah, Green would be a solid add at this point.
  2. Oladipo had surgery on his quad tendon. Won't be able to play until November - maybe later. Plus he'd have to get up to speed physically. So you probably are lucky to have him for half the season. For the taxpayer MLE, that's probably a pretty good risk to take. You need him ready for the playoffs. Still a huge comedown for the guy who turned down a 2-year/$40M extension a few months ago (albeit with Houston).
  3. Paddy Mills got a the taxpayer MLE from the Nets. He was a guy I was thinking would fit for us.
  4. We could have offered him more than this if we had wanted. While I valued Tucker, I do think he's very one dimensional at this point. Offensively, he basically camps out in the corner and tosses up 3s. People get that now. But he surely helped out last year. Let's hope we find someone who can replace his energy, defense and smarts. https://theathletic.com/2748577/2021/08/03/how-the-bucks-lost-one-of-their-championship-dogs-p-j-tucker-signs-with-miami-heat/ - adding Tucker on a two-year, $15 million deal, the same one the Heat gave him, would have put the Bucks $22.2 million over the luxury tax line and incurred a luxury tax payment of $53.3 million at the end of the season - adding Tucker on a two-year, $20 million deal, would have put the Bucks $24.7 million over the luxury tax line and incurred a luxury tax payment of $62.7 million at the end of the season - adding Tucker on a two-year, $20 million deal, but then taking Portis off the cap, would have put the Bucks $20.2 million over the luxury tax line and incurred a luxury tax payment of $45.8 million at the end of the season Yeah, going into paying the tax is pretty brutal in the NBA.
  5. Wayne Ellington was a guy who might have filled the shooting guard role - but he went to the Lakers for minimum.
  6. Hey, I can do that! I'd maybe accidentally foul someone (just because I couldn't get out of the way). I could even see getting a weird rebound that bounced right to me. And I could get hurt. That wouldn't be a problem.
  7. It might have been one of those things where Tucker was like, "I loved my time in Milwaukee. I got a ring. I'm proud of it all. But now - for the first time in my life - I get to pick where I'm going. So thanks, Milwaukee, but I have my heart on South Beach. Unless you're willing to throw stupid money at me - that's where I'm going." If that's the case - wish the man well (but not too well - if you know what I mean) - and move on.
  8. Getting Portis back another year was huge. Like someone said, the predictions were he would probably find a deal in the $10M range. I think next year we will have full bird rights on him - so if things click (and he opts out of the 2nd year of the deal) he is counting on us resigning him to a larger deal at that point.
  9. Yup, the Bucks have a Taxpayer Midlevel Exception of about $5.9M, but not sure if the use some of it on Semi. The Bucks also have a $4.8M Trade Exception and a $1.6M Trade Exception. Important thing about the trade exception is it can only be used for a trade. We can't sign a FA with it (or combine with someone in a trade). But who knows. Maybe we can find someone looking to offload a decent player who doesn't fit with them. Or just clear some cap space. Never know.
  10. We could have offered him more than this if we had wanted. While I valued Tucker, I do think he's very one dimensional at this point. 11. I thought the team would bring back Thanasis Antetokounmpo for league minimum. But who knows.
  12. I believe the Bucks only have the Taxpayer Midlevel Exception available, which is $5.9M. The standard mid-level exception is worth around $9.7M.
  13. The Axeman cometh. I don't know if that's good. A big mix of crazy and wow and huh and really.
  14. My wife's health care system has gone from zero COVID cases to 30+ in two weeks. And they had their first couple of deaths in ages this past week. Every hospitalized person has not been vaccinated. They are expecting numbers to grow. How much is the key. Cases are getting younger - like by 10 years. So it's definitely hitting younger people in their sample group. Tough thing is for staff who thought they were past this. I met some people who worked through all this. Some of their stories are heartbreaking. The hard part now is they feel most of these cases are avoidable.
  15. Hah! I thought the same thing. Let's just hope Cobb has enough left in the tank to justify things. I think we'll find that out soon enough. And if he shouldn't be on the field, the coaching staff won't give him time. They want to win. If Cobb ain't there - let's hope he's not on the field.
  16. Back in the prospect days, I was a big fan of Norris. Thought he could be a really good starter. I saw a few games of his, and when he was on, he looked great. Obviously, things haven't panned out of the guy. He's had some injuries, and not to mention thyroid cancer a few years. He looked pretty good last year - strictly pitching out of the pen. This year's numbers haven't been good - but as noted, his FIP is decent - so he's probably had some bad luck.
  17. Kalaitzakis and Mamukelashvili. That's awesome.
  18. I don't know that much about these guys, but McBride was someone who had stuck out to me - just reading some reports. Oh well.
  19. Doah! You were thwarted by the basketball gods.
  20. Exactly. He had a rep for punishing lefties - and that has held true. OPS vs Lefties: .928 OPS vs Righties: .752 He's not bad against righties - just quite a bit better against southpaws. If that's all he ever is - a right hander in a platoon, pinch hitter - he can be quite valuable since he's a good defender and can play all three OF positions.
  21. No, and when you don't need contributors right away - it's an easy way to watch a guy for a year or two and see if he might become something more than just filler. The odds are not good for 2nd rounders. Some will succeed - but most don't. But again, it fits us for now. So power to us.
  22. Yeah, that's pretty nice work. Especially if you're not particularly wed to any player at #31. And these 2nd round picks count very little against the salary cap - so that's a positive. With some luck, you get a contributor out of one of them down the road.
  23. I think the deal was all right for the Nationals. Extraordinary? No. But solid. They get two very highly rated players who are pretty much ready to contribute now - which is important for a team with a lack of upper tier prospects. Scherzer - with his no trade protection - could limit where he was going - so that probably hurt his value somewhat. And he couldn't be given a qualifying offer - so keeping him got you nothing. As for Turner and waiting until the offseason to deal it - they certainly could have done that. But there are a bunch of quality shortstops available in free agency (Seager, Correa, Story, Javier Baez, Marcus Semien) - which may have limited interest.
  24. The Athletic did a great, in depth look at opportunities for Milwaukee at #31. Interesting note from the article: Roughly 86 percent of the players drafted between Nos. 31 and 40 from 2000 to 2017 failed to become high-level rotation players. This may be why Milwaukee is looking to trade the pick - knowing they have enough development guys on the roster - and they want someone they know can make an impact. https://theathletic.com/2732245/2021/07/29/milwaukee-bucks-2021-nba-draft-primer-keep-or-trade-no-31-depth-chart-analysis-needs-prospects-and-more/ Obviously, as it's The Athletic, it's a paywall.
