If Shaw is hitting .167 come early June - and Hiura is hitting well - then the club can't be afraid to send Shaw to AAA to try and get his bat back on track. A few weeks in the minors won't affect Shaw's service time calendar, he'll still get paid, and he can work on adjustments without nearly as much pressure. If he can't see the value in that, well that's kind of tough. The team is trying to win a division, and guys hitting .167 aren't helping. I'm not saying to be rude to the guy - or not acknowledge what he has done for the club the last couple of years. But in the end, you need guys to produce, and him struggling is helping no one.

Here's a quick update of our 2019 pre-season Top 25. All info is as of May 11, 2019. #1 Keston Hiura, 2B, age 22 - AAA San Antonio 27% strikeout rate isn’t great, but the kid has a 1.000+ OPS. The power is starting to emerge, which if he can sustain, makes Hiura a scary good prospect. #2 Zack Brown, RHSP, age 24 - AAA San Antonio Solid, but unspectacular thus far. Want to see a lower walk rate. #3 Corey Ray, OF, age 24 - AAA San Antonio Awful start - 40% strikeout rate - and then a finger injury. Has come off the IL and hit HRs in his first two games. Let’s hope that’s a sign of things to come. #4 Brice Turang, SS, age 19 - A- Wisconsin Nice start (.283 BA), showing off his advanced bat and plate discipline. If he can develop a little pop, Turang will really be intriguing. #5 Tristen Lutz, OF, age 20 - A+ Carolina Struggled out of the gate, but has come on in May. Still waiting for him to breakout. #6 Aaron Ashby, LHSP, age 20 - A- Wisconsin Inconsistent performances featuring lots of strikeouts and lots of walks. However, lots to be excited about. #7 Mauricio Dubon, 2B/SS, age 24 - AAA San Antonio Come back from injury and done fine, but nothing remarkable. Has the looks of a utility infielder. #8 Lucas Erceg, 3B, age 24 - AAA San Antonio Looked great early, then struggled the last couple of weeks. Has improved his walk and HR rates this season, which is a good sign. #9 Braden Webb, RHSP, age 24 - A+ Carolina Tough campaign so far - more walks than strikeouts. Demoted to Carolina. #10 Trey Supak, RHSP, age 22 - AA Biloxi Not a sexy performer, but Supak keeps producing. Has a 2.27 ERA thus far. #11 Jacob Nottingham, C, age 24 - AAA San Antonio Poor start, but has improved the last couple of weeks. #12 Troy Stokes, Jr., OF, age 23 - AAA San Antonio Has battled injuries, and only appareled in eight games (although he’s looked good in those games). #13 Payton Henry, C, age 21 - A+ Carolina Same stuff as last year. Shows some power, huge strikeout numbers, inconsistent hit tool. #14 Adrian Houser, RHP, age 26 - Milwaukee Houser is on the San Antonio to Milwaukee express this year. He’s look great at AAA, but be inconsistent in Milwaukee. Currently the most likely player to graduate from our prospect list. #15 Joe Gray, OF, age 19 Has not played yet in 2019. #16 Tyrone Taylor, OF, age 25 - AAA San Antonio Taylor has done just fine in 2019, producing an OPS right around .800. He’s got a little pop in his bat, some speed, and plays all three OF positions. That may get him to Milwaukee in 2019. #17 Carlos Rodriguez, OF, age 18 Has not played yet in 2019. #18 Trent Grisham, OF, age 22 - AA Biloxi Trent Grisham 2019 is looking a lot like Trent Grisham 2016-18. That’s not very exciting. #19 Marcos Diplan, RHP, age 22 - AA Biloxi 8.20 ERA in 2019. Strikes out a lot of guys, but walks a ton of them as well. Not good thus far. Moved the bullpen recently - so that might be his position going forward. Is a potential guy to drop out of our Top 25. #20 Jake Gatewood, 1B, age 23 - AA Biloxi Has not played yet in 2019 as he gets back into playing shape. #21 Je’Von Ward, OF, age 19 - A- Wisconsin Has struggled in 2019 in his first pass at full-season ball. Young for his league, so some patience is likely required. #22 Mario Feliciano, C, age 20 - A+ Carolina One of the system’s breakout kids thus far of 2019 with 6 HR and an .813 OPS. Nice to see Feliciano rebound after an injury-plagued 2018. #23 Drew Rasmussen, RHP, age 23 Breakout kid #2 for the Brewers. Rasmussen is being brought along slowly as he is coming off Tommy John surgery. He has already been moved from Wisconsin to Carolina to Biloxi is less than a month. #24 Micah Bello, OF, age 18 Has not played yet in 2019. #25 Eduardo Garcia, SS, age 16 Has not played yet in 2019. Here's a few non-top 25 players that have been intriguing thus far (for differing reasons): Max Lazar - 1.61 ERA, 43K in 28 IP (and only 8 BB) at Wisconsin. Joantgel Segovia - Hitting .309 at Carolina, including 4 HR (which doubles his career HR numbers). Devon Williams - Shows smoke (35K in 24 innings) but still walking too many guys (19) at AA. Clayton Andrews - After a nice debut in 2018, Andrews is still impressing with 14K in just 8.1 IP as the closer in Carolina.

Time to leave one up in the strike zone for Yelich.

While past behavior isn't always predictive of future behavior, we have traditionally given established players a long leash before doing something. While Hiura is doing great, I think the club will want to give Shaw and Aguilar a little more time to come around. By waiting another month, the club can honestly say that they gave both guys a solid chance to turn their games around. Also, it pushes keeps Hiura out of the Super 2 class, which saves the team millions. Note, I don't necessarily agree with this strategy, but it is what I think we will do. If Shaw and/Aguilar is sucking wind a month from now, and Hiura is raking, I think you could see a move. What move, I don't know. But we can't have our corner infielders hitting sub-.200 and expect to contend. If Hiura is brought up, he'll go to 2B. Moose can move to 3B. If Shaw is optioned or whatever, we are set. If we do something with Aguilar - well you move Shaw over to 1B.

Darn. Pats picked Harry. Liked him as a potential 2nd rounder. Oh well, still some nice players on the board. Here's a few that really interest me. OL Cody Ford (big steal if you can get him) OL Jawaan Taylor (why the big drop is intriguing) WR AJ Brown (Love this guy - smart, productive) WR DK Metcalf (not enthralled by his production - but he has some really amazing skills. Big bust potential - but also big potential - making him intriguing) TE Irv Smith (solid, all around TE) Those are just a few guys that are of interest. There are a couple of defensive backs I like - but with a safety drafted already, I doubt we go that direction).

I was wondering that as well. Weird. Perhaps there's something people know that they simply don't want to talk about. Could be medicals or character things. Like Jason Groome dropping in the MLB draft a few years ago. There were things about the kid that scared off a lot of people - but no one wanted to be specific - and just said 'character' issues. But all the teams knew about those things. Just no one talked about it.

No, they can't. They need a slot receiver. There a couple from Ohio State, I wouldn't be against one of the Ole Miss WR'ers at 44. But the defense is pretty well set, for better or worse right now. I really like A.J. Brown if he's still around at #44. Kinda hoping Dalton Risner falls to that spot, though. Yes to Brown. I doubt he reaches us however.

Most rankings had Savage going in the 2nd or 3rd round. That's where it's coming from. Kudos to Mel Kiper for being in on him that high - but again, most people did not. The disappointment is when there is a belief that the pick is a reach because he would have been available later. It doesn't mean the guy isn't going to be good - no one is saying that. It's a simple belief that the pick was too high. Now, that belief may be very wrong as other teams may have been on Savage in the 1st round as well - but if not, it's disappointing that we gave up resources for a guy who we could have had later.

That would be awesome.

Reading up on Savage, I'm liking him as a player more. Got dinged by people due to his lack of size - but he's a guy who has just made plays. I'm guessing the Packers knew someone would take him ahead of them at #30 - so they pulled the trigger on the deal. I'm guessing a receiver in the 2nd. There are some decent ones who could be available. AJ Brown, Marquis Brown, K'Neal Harry, DK Metcalf, Irv Smith Jr. Anyone of those guys would be good value in the 2nd round.

The last time Green Bay picked a safety ahead of Baltimore was Nick Collins. Nobody had him mocked in the 2nd round. Or anywhere close. I read that Savage was sneaking up boards this past week - so perhaps the Packers knew someone else would take him. But just weird. If that was the case, there was other talent we could have gotten at #30 that would have made just as much of an impact - and we'd have saved two picks.

I like this analysis for the Walter Football guys: Green Bay Packers: Darnell Savage, S, Maryland MAYOCK MALFUNCTION, FARMER FAIL, GRIGSON GAFFE, CERRATO SUCKAGE, BAALKE BLOOPER, CHIP TRAGEDY, KING CALAMITY, SASHI SUFFERIN SUCCOTASH Grade I hope you like the new addition to the "F" grade. It's well deserved after what happened at No. 4 tonight. This is an "F" grade all the way. Darnell Savage is a second-round prospect who may have snuck into the bottom end of the first round. There was absolutely no reason to move up nine spots for him. He, or someone very comparable to him, would've been available at No. 30 overall. I wouldn't have minded the Packers taking Savage had they remained at their own choice, but giving up resources for poor value is just a recipe for disaster.

Gary and Savage weren't exactly the names I had been hoping for, but they're Packers now. I don't mind giving up a pair of 4th rounders to move up...just not sure you had to move up that far. Seems really a stretch to move up for him -- I guess the club loved him and knew someone else would take him. But let's be honest - hardly anyone mocked Savage this high - or even in the 1st round. Seems like a reach. I'm disappointed because I think we had better guys available. I'm good with a safety - but not this high. I guess the team loved him.

Savage was - at best - a 2nd round type selection on most mocks. I think I saw him in the 3rd round in some. Wow.

Did we just trade up to take Darnell Savage?

I want AJ Brown at #30. Some good OL are still available as well.

I was hoping the Broncos would pick Lock - that way the Packers aren't tempted to pick him at #30.

Yeah, that feels about right given how this night has gone thus far. I'm saying OL for the Vikings. Taylor, Dillard or Ford. Was right about OL - but didn't see the center being selected. Solid addition for the Queens. Nothing sexy, but adding a guy who can anchor the OL is a good move.

Fixed that for you... Gary was coming up in a lot of top 10 mocks - although he was in the mid/lower parts of the 1st round in others. So I don't see him as being a reach. He's not my favorite pick, but I can see the value. Lindstrom on the other hand, was generally being mocked in the latter 1/3 of the 1st round.

Sweat's heart issue is really driving him down. He was a top 10 guy almost for sure without the heart thing.

Falcons really went high on Lindstrom. Oh well, if you like someone, what the heck.
