  1. Joey, not sure what replay you saw but Counsell's foot clearly reached the plate before Rodriguez made the tag. The ump was not in position to make the call...which they rarely ever are inolving plays at the plate. Can't really blame this particular ump since for the most part they are all the same. Once they see the ball beat the runner and the catcher make contact with the player....they are an automatic out. I think this is just a case of Joey disagreeing just to disagree.
  2. Got my answer to question #2. What a great resource the organizational stats are by baseball reference.
  3. I have a couple of generic questions. Sorry if these are obvious ones. Do they not play half seasons in AAA anymore? Has Arnett pitched lately? It seems like everytime I check the link report he is not pitching? Is he not starting? How has he been doing? Thanks!
  4. I couldn't agree more crivitz. MLB might as well just make it a force play at home, since the only thing that matters is if the ball beats the runner. I only had to re watch that play once to see he was clearly safe. I don't even thing Bill and Brian looked at the replay. Counsell probably didn't argue because he knows the drill....if the ball beats you there, you are an automatic out.
  5. Can we please erase that first inning? I am pretty down right now.....With the Cubs rolling, the Cards comeback and Yo not showing up in the 1st, tonight will be a tough night to bounce back from.
  6. I think it is pretty funny that posters think this year has been so disappointing when we are actually .500 with 60 games to play considering all the injuries. What did people expect? Did one playoff appearance really spoil Brewer fans? If Weeks wouldn't have gotten hurt and our starting pitching would have held up a little better over the past month and a half maybe Doug would have been in a position to make a major move. To me it is pretty amazing that we are even at .500. Wonder how people are going to feel about things after we sweep the Padres and take 2 out of 3 from the Dodgers?
  7. How would not making a move been better? So you think Vargas will actually hurt us? Rottino would never play for the Brewers any way so by making that comment you think Vargas will make us lose games?
  8. NDOG44, give me a realistic move they should have made then if you think it is so easy?
  9. Naivin, that is your opinion that we won't make the playoffs this year but you speak as it is a fact. What were the Colorado Rockies chances of making the playoffs two years ago. Things can happen and as a fan I want to stay in the race as long as possible....and this move helps us do that. Our August schedule gives us a great chance to be there in September and that is all I am asking for.
  10. Sometimes one would think we were 10 games under .500 with no shot at the post-season. The facts are we are .500 and only 4 games out of first place with basically 3/5 of our starting rotation hurt or a huge dissapointment all year. What do people expect? We are not willing to move any part that might contribute to this team in 2010 or 2011 so what are we suppose to do? We are still a pennant race for the time being so why not accept that and try to enjoy it. If not, go back 5 or 6 years and tell me how much fun you were having watching and following Brewer baseball.
  11. Nice.....thanks for clearing that up FTJ. No problem with the fact we disagree on point #1 but I guess I will just chalk it up as your humor does nothing for me in regards to point #2.
  12. I understand what you are saying naivin but how does this deal change any of that? You can still make other moves if it makes sense to Doug and his staff. In my opinion Doug will take as much pitching as he can get so by adding Vargas that doesn't mean he feels like he filled the 1 spot we needed filled. I think it is pretty clear that we are not willing to trade a contributer this year or a prospect who is close to contributing in the next couple of years to get a quality arm this year. In my mind, we still have a team that can compete for a playoff spot this year, guys just have to step up.
  13. Can anyone be pleased on this website? You got to give up talent to get talent...especially this year. I think this move is brilliant and worth a shot. Congrats Doug....you have atleast one supporter. Those of you ripping on this deal...I just don't get it. Obviously Melvin knows this is not BIG answer to solve our problems but how does this move hurt us? We needed a quality pitcher to get us innings and that is exactly what we got. And we gave up absolutely nothing to obtain it.
  14. There is 0% chance that Escobar is going to Seattle, why are we even talking about this? If any shortstop is traded to Seattle, it will be Hardy.
  15. I agree shelmark that Holladay is not coming here but if you don't think the Brewers are NOT right in the thick of things than I think you are mistaken. This is a very big week to post a 5-2 or 6-1 record heading into August.
  16. I'm with you on this one Hardy. A lot of people get defended on this site more than others. Don't worry about and just move on. To answer the question Pudster...I am going with Gamel, Wallace and then LaPorta. I personally don't think LaPorta will have much of a career in the big leagues.
  17. How about Saloman Torres? Why did he retire again? This bullpen really misses him.
  18. Good call bbrauch on Jennings....you were spot on.
  19. I know for a fact that Ned wanted the roof closed as much as possible, thinking the conditions favored his team more often than not. I think Macha feels the same way. I think it has a lot more to do with that then the actual weather on the days where the decision is not an obvious one based on the weather.
  20. I agree with Gorman Harvey on this one. The last couple of years I think the umps think people pay to come out and watch their strike out dance or to see how tough they can be while arguing with a player or manager. I can't wait for the day where the homeplate ump is replaced by a computer (we are a lot closer to that day than many would think)
  21. Great to see the love for Cam Boogie in this thread. I think everyone knows that he is performing well beyond expectations but I can't help but feel all warm inside watching this offense the past week and a half. Now, if we could only fix having two pitchers bat in the 8th and 9th spot we might be on to something. To me this team is better than last years team. It might take a little bit of time for the record to show it but I am very impressed with what I am seeing. I think Pittsburgh is in trouble these next two games. Nothing like this Pirates team coming in on a high, thinking they are ready to compete or atleast finishing over .500 and us footing our foot down while spanking them in all 3 games.
  22. Just need to say that Mike deserves some major props so far this year. A lot of people wanted him and his $10 million contract gone. There is no way he can keep up at his current pace but it sure is great to see Melvin's decision to keep him working out. As he had a bad game yet this year? I just don't think he gets enough love because he is not one of the young "home grown" guys but he is by far my favorite Brewer. Anyone else have some love for Cam?
  23. Well if Yost were the manager today (4/26) Duffy would be getting the start in place of Cory Hart today and Counsell would be in for Weeks. We already won the series in Houston so no reason to go for the sweep. Lets see what Macha does.
  24. That a baby Prince....I would love to see what happens when Rickie Braun and Prince are all hot at the same time.
  25. Yeah I agree Gorman, seeing Augie in HD was not pretty.
