Lake Elsinore (Padres) 7, High Desert 4 RHP David Nolasco couldn't repeat his recent dominance... High Desert Site Game Summary: Lake Elsinore Takes 3 of 4LAKE ELSINORE, CA ? The Lake Elsinore Storm won the final game of the four-game series on Sunday evening against the High Desert Mavericks, taking the finale by a score of 7-4 at the Diamond in Lake Elsinore. Brad Baker (2-0) dominated through six strong innings, striking out a season-best 12 men, earning his second win in as many starts. Baker allowed just one unearned run to the Mavericks in the first inning in picking up the win. The Storm answered Froilan Villanueva's RBI single with three runs off Mavs starter David Nolasco in the first frame. Josh Barfield knocked in a pair of runs as the Storm took a 2-1 lead. After Barfield swiped third base, he scored on Lou Merloni's sac fly for a 3-1 advantage. Lake Elsinore added two in the third and two in the fourth to chase Nolasco, who lost his first decision since being moved into the starting rotation. Nolasco (2-3) left after only 3.2 innings, allowing all seven earned runs. The Mavs rallied for three in the eighth off Jack Cassel to make things interesting. After walking the first two men, Cassel allowed a two-run single to Jeremy Frost as the Mavs pulled to within 7-3. Ralph Santana's fielder's choice brought in Jason Belcher, who singled earlier in the inning but that's as close as the Mavs would get. Mike Wodnicki worked a scoreless ninth for his team-leading 12th save of the year. The Mavs are now 3.5 games behind the first place Storm after losing three of the four games in the series. The Mavs will return home on Tuesday, July 1st, when they battle the Inland Empire 66ers at Mavericks Stadium at 7:05 (9:05 Central). Dan Hall will go for the Mavs on Tuesday night against the 66ers. MassBrew replied to MassBrew's topic in Brewers Minor League Talk
Just some clarification: Henderson was our 4th in 2000, not '99 (Artman was also 2000 draft). Our actual 10th rounder in 1999 was Ben Hendrickson. Darn -- how dare the Brewers place Henderson and Hendrickson side-by-side in the media guide -- I've been totally exposed now (not a pretty sight http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif ). David Weiser's www.starsboxscore.com Huntsville Update: Read on for how Kade Johnson nearly got Ryan Knox killed unnecessarily -- thanks as always, David! Hopefully a FOB forever! (Friend of Brewerfan http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif ) TEMPER, TEMPERMike Jones keeps climbing the ladder......... It wasn't a work of art --- he walked a season-high five batters, pitched with men in scoring position in each of his five innings, and needed 89 pitches to finish, but he's so poised, it's almost as if he feeds on pressure time in and time out....... Already 4th best among SL ERA leaders before this game, he'll now climb over tomorrow's starter, Luis Martinez, and sit in 3rd place with a 2.28 ERA....... The Stars improve to 6-4, but Birmingham and Jackson have kept pace. That won't last long as the Stars come home tomorrow to take on the Barons........ One key prerequisite to the Stars success has been their ability to beat the teams in their own division........ While only two teams in the East have losing records against the Stars, this team has been able to beat most everyone in their own division convincingly........ The chief whipping boys have been the Lookouts. An 11-4 record against Chattanooga has not slipped beneath the radar of Lookouts manager, Phillip Wellman........ In the 9th inning, Wellman and Stars manager Frank Kremblas both jawed at each other after All-Star relief pitcher David Gil threw a ball behind pinch-hitter Ryan Gripp's head, going all the way to the screen! Kremblas, irate, directed his wrath at the pitcher, which prompted Wellman to come storming out of the dugout in defense of his player. Umpires had to restrain them both....... Both dugouts and the bullpen emptied, but nothing happened....... The rest of the night was uneventful, save for the Lookouts' last gasp in the 9th. Four out of Dustin Moseley's five losses have been to the Stars this season, and July is not even here, yet...... In the Stars' 18-year history on the field, only four other opposing pitchers have lost four times in a season against the Stars, but none so quickly as Moseley. (Two were relief pitchers.) Twenty minutes before this game got underway, Chattanooga's All-Star left fielder Stephen Smitherman got a major league call up to Cincinnati. He'll be waiting to play in Sunday's game at Cleveland....... Smitherman, while not leading in batting against the Stars this season (Dernell Stenson is hitting .333 vs. Stars pitching), still drove in a team-high 10 runs. Good luck, Steve. Don't come back! The Stars wasted little time again in getting on the scoreboard...... In the 2nd inning, J.J. Hardy fell behind 0-and-2, but led off with a bloop double to left, dropping between a sliding Keith Mitchell and Wilmy Caceres. It was his first extra-base hit since June 15...... Although J.J.'s hitting just .206 since the 2nd half began, his bat has started to show some of that first half life again, going 6-for-19 in his last five games....... Brandon Gemoll pushed him to second, then Noochie Varner slammed one into right-center field, but Santiago Perez ran it down, but J.J. scored to put the Stars up, 1-0. The Stars had an adventurous 2nd inning on defense. After a ball dropped between Dave Krynzel and D.J. Clark, putting runners on 2nd and 3rd for Chattanooga with nobody out, Dane Sardinha hit a 1-1 pitch to shallow right-center. Varner made the catch after a long run, and then steamed the ball to catcher Kade Johnson, who made a great tag on Andrew Beattie for the 9-2 double play......... Richard Paz led off the 4th with a single, setting up another Stars rally....... With one out, Gemoll smacked a ball under the scoreboard for a double, scoring Paz comfortably, then Varner hit a ball high off the Coca-Cola sign in left-center field, scoring Gemoll easily to give the Stars a 3-0 lead......... Mike Jones' two-base throwing error put Chattanooga on the scoreboard in the bottom of the 4th........ The Stars got out of a bases-loaded situation in the 5th inning by putting a shift on with Andy Beattie at the plate. Third baseman Chris Barnwell, standing in the shortstop position, was in the right place to snare Beattie's line drive to end the inning......... The Lookouts made a habit of stranding runners all night --- six through five innings. Brett Gray came on in relief when the Stars tacked on three more runs in the 7th inning........ With runners on the corners, Krynzel hammered a 2-1 pitch to right field for his second home run of the season. That pretty much put the game in the freezer........ Leading 7-2 in the 9th, Kade Johnson capped the Stars' scoring for the night with a monster home run to left........ Kade "showed" pitcher David Gil up, by flipping the bat in the air, then standing at home plate, watching the ball go out......... Gil got his retaliation when he threw a ball behind the head of Ryan Knox, all the way to the screen, which prompted a warning from the umpire, but that brings back to the top of this summary. Sunday, starting pitcher Luis Martinez and the rest of the team will wear the original 1985 uniforms for "Turn Back the Clock Night"........ Not only will both the Barons and Stars wear their '85 jerseys, but throwback prices will be in effect......... General admission is a dollar. Hot dogs are a dollar. Sodas are a dollar and programs will be a dollar........ I remember the old programs had a much larger area for scorekeeping fanatics to write in. That was value. Today, the programs are back down to $2.00, the lowest in several years, but the scorecard area in the middle of the program is dwarfed by advertising........ Why am I griping? I don't even use it. I use Carpenter's most of the time....... Enemencio Pacheco (5-2, 2.84) will start for the Barons as the Stars pit Martinez against him for the first time this season. Dave Krynzel raised his batting average to .320 --- 3rd best in the league, and the highest its been since June 5. Dave has stolen just two bases in as many attempts since the 2nd half got started....... Matt Childers had another shaky 9th. His 7.15 ERA in June is his worst month since he became a Star in 2001, but he still has 11 strikeouts in 11 1/3 innings........ Former Huntsville Star Mark Ernster was given his release by the High Desert Maverics to make room for the Brewers' 10th round pick in the 2002 draft, Jeremy Frost....... Ernster was hitting .288 in 48 games at Adelanto, but had an unidentified problem with his left knee....... The Brewers haven't had much patience the past two years with injured players. Witness Dave Pember, Jose Garcia, Jose Mieses, and more recently, Jeff Robinson, among many others.......... Pitcher Pete Smart announced his retirement. If it were not for the Stars' enormous pitching depth at the beginning of the season, he would have made the Stars roster......... He did momentarily at the end of last season when the Stars finished strong and was in playoff contention right down to the last series vs. Birmingham. He was promoted from High Desert before the last game of the 2002 season, but the Stars lost to Birmingham, 1-0, and the Stars had no use for Smart. Instead, he injured his arm early this season, and he becomes one of a handful of "ghost" Stars who were a part of the team, but never played a game........ I recall writing about some of those players earlier in the season. John Rocker, former Greenville Brave who became a controversial pitcher in 2001 when he was with the Atlanta Braves, was released by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. He was pitching for the Orlando Rays where he was 0-1 with a 9.15 ERA. He allowed 23 runs, 20 earned on 23 hits and 26 walks over 19 2/3 innings...... As a starter for the Greenville Braves, he had no record against the Stars in 1997, but he smothered the greatest offensive team in Stars history, holding them in two starts to a 2.57 ERA. -

He will be replaced by John Curtis, who has spent the last two evenings with the team in Lake Elsinore. The High Desert Mavericks wish Champ and his family the best. The Padres, behind their ace Greg Conden, took and early 5-1 lead. The Brewers began chipping away, posting a run in the fifth, a run in the sixth, and a two-spot in the seventh to tie the game. In the bottom of the eighth, with two outs, Andri Gomez, on second base, hustled all the way to the plate as an errant throw to the first basemen distracted the infielders. Nic Carter advanced to third and scored on a double steal, becoming the first Brewer of the season to steal home. Kenny Durost worked a scoreless eighth to earn his first professional win. Nick Slack earned his second save of the season. Helena Boxscore: The performance of 22-year-old LHP Eric Henderson (10th round, 99), stands out... High Desert 6, Lake Elsinore (Padres) 2 Way to go, Mavs! High Desert Site Game Summary: Mavs Finally Win in Lake ElsinoreThe High Desert Mavericks snapped an eight-game losing streak in Lake Elsinore on Saturday night, with a 6-2 win over the Storm. The win was the first at Pete Lehr Field, since a 5-1 Opening Night win for the Mavs. Chris Saenz pitched 6.2 innings in earning his first victory in a month, while snapping a personal three-game skid. Saenz held the Storm off the board until the seventh inning when he gave up a two-out walk, followed by a run-scoring triple to Marcus Nettles. Justin Backsmeyer came on, and despite allowing Nettles to score on an RBI double by Freddy Guzman, shut down the Storm over the final 2.1 innings. Saenz (6-7) got all the support he needed in a four-run fourth inning. Froilan Villanueva and Jason Belcher had back-to-back hits to open the frame. Ralph Santana's one-out RBI single scored Villanueva as the Mavs took a 1-0 lead. Brian Foster then followed with a two-run triple, and scored on Todd West's sacrifice fly for a 4-0 lead on Storm starter Jason Wiedmeyer (7-2). The Mavs made it 6-0 as the Storm committed three errors in the top of the seventh inning. West reached on an error by left-fielder Marcus Nettles and moved to second on a sacrifice by Chris Morris. Scott Candelaria followed with a deep fly ball to center field that Freddy Guzman caught, then threw wildly to third base. West scored all the way from second on the error. Brad Nelson would also reach on an error and score on Villanueva's third hit of the night. The Mavs ended a two-game losing streak overall, and are now 3.5 games back of the first place Storm with one game remaining in the four-game series. David Nolasco (2-2) goes to the hill on Sunday night at 6:05 (8:05 Central) against Brad Baker (1-0) of the Storm. High Desert Boxscore: Justin Backsmeyer has been a nice surprise out of the bullpen; Mavs aren't drawing walks as of late, but why quibble about a nice win? David Weiser's www.starsboxscore.com Huntsville Update: ANOTHER RECORD FOR D. LEEThe whole gang is going to the Southern League All-Star Game in Jacksonville. Not only were seven players named to the squad, but batting coach, Sandy Guerrero, pitching coach Stan Kyles, the trainer, Greg Barajas, and the strength and conditioning coach, Jon Williams....... So come July 8, it'll be the Huntsville Stars and a few stringers, going up against the best of the Eastern Division....... The entire list of All-Stars is at: www.starsboxscore.com/standing.html The first game was a completion of a game on June 26 that never got going past the top of the first, when Ryan Knox, Dave Krynzel, and Richard Paz in succession came up with hits against Josh Hall to put the Stars in front, 1-0........ Corey Hart had a 2-1 count when a downpour eventually caused the game to be called because the outfield was in simply unplayable condition. Even though the sun came out a half-hour later, it was too late in the day to make a difference...... The Stars might have wished for someone other than Ryan Mottl when play resumed on Friday. Mottl, who has with one aberration, owned the Stars, retired 22 hitters in a row when he took over the pitching chores from Thursday's starter, Josh Hall...... Take out for a June 5 start in which he gave up six runs in four innings en route to a 10-9 victory for the Stars, Mottl has a 0.96 ERA in 18 2/3 innings with 22 Ks and 4 BBs. That's from a pitcher who won only his 3rd game........ Pedro Liriano usually gets little run support when he starts, but there was no stopping Chattanooga, who knocked him out early, adding some weight to his ERA, now at 3.16, still 10th best in the league. The second game was the main event as far as I'm concerned....... Would Derek Lee become the fastest pitcher in Stars history to win 10 games?......... Lee not only did, he pitched his first complete game since September 1, 2000, as well, when he pitched a 4-hit shutout over Mobile....... Lee now joins Todd Burns, Scott Chiamparino, and Joe Law as pitchers who have thrown six complete games for the Stars, just one fewer than the all-time leader, Wally Whitehurst with 7......... The second game got off to an amusing start. In the top of the 1st inning with Krynzel on first after an infield single. Paz would ground out into what looked like a 4-6-3 double play. At least, umpire Garrett Watson didn't think so....... Chattanooga manager Phillip Wellman pointed, gestured, gesticulated, flailed, kicked and everything else to show the umpire he was wrong. Finally after showing him the dirt on the bag, Wellman picked up first base bag and took it back with him to the dugout, after getting tossed by umpire Mike Esterbrook........ Not only Wellman gets the heave-ho, but 2nd baseman Andy Beattie, and shortstop Wilmy Caceres. After the chaos looked like had died down, Wellman comes back out and goes after the second base bag and takes that with him...... What a show. Lee allowed a run after balking the leadoff hitter to second. Dernell Stenson singled Santiago Perez, the Lookouts' new shortstop, home........ The Stars took the lead in the third after a stolen base by Knox, the first of two for him to put him in a 9th place tie among the Stars' all-time stolen base leaders........ Krynzel fought off a couple of 3-2 pitches from Southern League vet Clayton Andrews, and then blooped a hit behind third, scoring Knox........ Paz went to 2-and-2, then drove a ball to the left-center field alley for a long double that scored Krynzel. That gave the Stars a 2-1 lead. The Stars' seven-run 4th inning got started on a single by Daryl Clark. Mike Kremblas's single moved him to third...... Chris Barnwell hit a ball to center field that scored Clark and it was 3-1........ Lee sacrificed, but got a little help from Andrews as he bobbled the ball for an error........ With runners on first and second and one out, Knox singled, poking a flair to shallow center as Kremblas took off for third on the pitch. He scored easily, making it 4-1........ Krynzel then lashed a double off the right field wall. The General scored easily from second and sending Knox to third. It was now 5-1........ Paz was walked to load the bases, then Hart hit a sacrifice fly to center to make it 6-1....... Ryan Gripp, who hits .299 when not pinch-hitting, had runners on the corners when he hit a double into the left field corner. Krynzel walked home. The relay was too late to get Paz who was waved in to make it 8-1. Gripper scored on two wild pitches from Kris Keller to give the Stars a 9-1 lead and the Lookouts were cooked and well-done....... The General was brilliant from the 2nd to the 6th inning, allowing only three singles. Clark made a beautiful play in the 9th inning, chasing down a drive to left in the alley by Brian Peterson, leaping against the wall to make the catch........ Lee thus eclipsed Jeff Bittiger, who won his 10th game on June 30, 1992, and may be on his way to become the first 15-game winner in Stars history, "just" another record for D. Lee........ The Stars are now 5-4 in the second half, tying them with Birmingham and Jackson in a second-place logjam. Dave Krynzel is 9-for-24 (.375) over his last six games, raising his average to .319, fifth best in the Southern League. He has doubled in three consecutive games. Brandon Gemoll is the only other player this season to do that this season........ Richard Paz's double in game two was his first extra-base hit since June 8......... Mike Jones will bid for his 7th win Saturday against Chattanooga right-hander Dustin Moseley (5-4, 3.88), who has a 7.56 ERA in three starts this season against the Stars. -

Indianapolis Media Notes for Saturday: TONIGHT: The Indians return to Victory Field from an eight-game road trip on which they went 6-2. The Tribe swept four games at Pawtucket before splitting the series with Scranton. The Tribe's two losses were each by one run. The Indians are 17-9 in June. The Indians won 17 games last August (17-12). The last time the Indians won 18 games in a month was June of 2001 when they went 18-11. There are three games remaining in the month. The Indians welcome the Richmond Braves to Victory Field for the first time this season. The teams split a four-game series at The Diamond in Richmond at the beginning of May. The Indians are 36-28 against the R-Braves since joining the IL in 1998. Richmond manager Pat Kelly skippered the Tribe in 1991 and 1992. The R-Braves also feature former Indian Damon Hollins (1999-2000), and Ball State product Sam McConnell. YESTERDAY: Scranton salvaged a split of the four-game series with a 2-1 win. Glendon Rusch took the loss despite allowing just two runs in seven innings. He struck out eight. Jim Rushford's solo homer was one of only four Tribe hits. ON THE MOUND: Righthander Pasqual Coco makes his team-leading 17th start. He tops the Indians in wins, innings pitched and strikeouts. Coco faced Richmond on May 4 and earned the win allowing two runs in 6.1 innings. That victory was the first of six consecutive wins for Coco over his last 11 starts. In those 11 starts, Coco has recorded a 4.15 ERA in 56.1 innings. Coco has won each of his last two starts. He beat Syracuse on June 18 in his last start at Victory Field (5.0 IP, 4 R), and he picked up a win in the second game of a doubleheader at Pawtucket on Monday (6.0 IP, 2 R). At the plate, Coco is 2-for-9 with 1 RBI. ALL-STAR SELECTION: Tribe outfielder Mark Smith has been selected to the IL All-Star team. Smith ranks ninth in the IL with a .313 average. Since seeing his average dip to .295 on June 8, Smith has gone 25-for-69 (.362) in his last 18 games with five doubles and four home runs (.609 SLG). For the season, Smith leads the team in average, hits (79), total bases (127), doubles (tie, 19), home runs (9), RBI (tie, 42) and slugging percentage (.504). Smith was also an IL All-Star with Rochester in 1993 and 1995. THE STREAK: The Indians went one month, May 25-June 24, without losing a game on the road. During the 12-game winning streak, the Indians outscored the opposition 76-38, batted .321 and slugged at a .540 clip. The Indians beat Ottawa once, swept two games at Toledo, four at Syracuse, four at Pawtucket, and defeated Scranton once. TOP OF THE ORDER: Bill Hall was moved into the lead-off spot in the lineup June 7 and has gone 18-for-53 (.340) with 11 runs scored, six doubles, one home run, four walks and two stolen bases in 13 games since. Hall has hit safely in 23 of his last 26 games. In that period, he's batting .309 (34-for-110). Hall had back-to-back eight-game hitting streaks this month (June 7-16 and 18-26). His most recent streak was snapped Friday night at Scranton when he went 0-for-4. WHAT A RELIEF: In the last 27 games, the Tribe relief corps has allowed just 23 earned runs in 95.0 innings (2.18 ERA). For the season, the Indians bullpen has a 3.09 ERA. Among the leaders are: - Jason Childers: Since May 2 he is 0-1-2 with a 1.44 ERA in 15 G (4 ER / 25.0 IP) - Roberto Giron: Since May 11 he is 0-0-7 with a 1.37 ERA in 18 G (3 ER / 19.2 IP) - Shane Nance: Since May 23 he is 2-0-0 with a 0.00 ERA in 13 G (0 ER / 17.1 IP) HOT AT THE PLATE: Over the last 37 games Jim Rushford is hitting .350 (48-for-137). Steve Scarborough has swung a hot bat lately too. In 24 games since May 30, Scarborough is hitting .309 (25-for-81). Lake Elsinore (Padres) 10, High Desert 2 Just like that the Mavs are 2-6 and are off to the poorest start among all Cal League teams in the second half -- it just isn't happening for these kids, unfortunately... High Desert Site Game Summary: Mavs Get Clobbered AgainLAKE ELSINORE, CA ? The Lake Elsinore Storm dropped the High Desert Mavericks for a second straight night in Lake Elsinore, beating the Mavs by a final of 10-2 on Friday night at the Diamond. The Mavs, who have dropped eight straight games in Lake Elsinore, are now 24 games under the .500 mark for the first time all year at 27-51. The Storm pitching staff held High Desert's struggling offense to two runs on eight hits. The newest Maverick, Jeremy Frost, homered in his first at-bat, and drove in the other run with a ninth-inning single to provide the Mavs with their only highlights of the night. The Storm jumped on Mavs starter Chad Petty (0-3) with an unearned run in the first, then followed it up with three in the second. They led 4-0 after two innings, yet only recorded one hit. Petty's control was the key in the three-run second inning, as he walked the bases loaded. After Freddy Guzman picked up an RBI with a groundout to make it 2-0, Lou Merloni knocked in two more with a double down the left field line. Merloni, who is on a rehab assignment for the San Diego Padres, finished the night 2-4, as he made his first start with the Storm . On the night, Petty lasted just three innings, allowing six runs on five hits, while walking five men. Four of the five walks would score. Frost's home run brought the Mavs to within three at 4-1 in the third. That's as close as they got however, as the Storm scored twice in the bottom of the inning to take a 6-1 lead. After Petty was chased, Aaron Dean allowed three runs in the fourth and another in the sixth as the Storm went up 10-1. Frost's RBI single with two outs in the ninth gave him a 2-4 debut after being called up from the Helena Brewers of the Pioneer League. Storm starter Javier Martinez allowed just one run in four innings of work. Mike Thompson (5-6) came on in the fifth, working four scoreless innings for the win. Tommy Marx pitched an inning of scoreless relief for the Mavs. Chris Saenz (5-7) will go to the hill on Saturday night against Jason Wiedmeyer (7-1) as the Mavs try to stop a two-game losing streak. Game time is 7:05 (9:05 Central). High Desert Box Score: I think it's safe to say thus far that Noochie Varner was the bigger prize in the Alex Sanchez deal; Chad Petty's shown nothing as of yet... Let's see, Cubs lose, Reds lose. Cards losing, Astros losing. Can you say eight games out, .500 on the road? Just messin' with ya' -- fun, though. Still the only sixth place team in baseball. -

Scranton / Wilkes-Barre (Phillies) 2, Indianapolis 1 Glendon Rusch had a fine night, especially after the first inning... Indy Site Game Summary: SCRANTON, PA -- Amaury Telemaco outdueled Glendon Rusch Friday night as the Scranton Red Barons defeated the visiting Indianapolis Indians 2-1. The win allowed the Red Barons to gain a split of the four-game series. Telemaco (5-7) beat the Indians for the second time in four starts. The tall righthander's last win came on June 12 at Victory Field when he pitched shutout ball over eight innings in an 8-1 Scranton win. The Indians (36-43) didn't fare much better against the Dominican Friday night. Telemaco was perfect through the first 4.2 innings before Cody McKay blooped a single into left. Telemaco then retired the next five batters in a row before Jim Rushford homered to right field to give the Indians their only run. Telemaco also gave up a two-out triple to Steve Scarborough in the eighth, but struck out pinch hitter Mark Smith to end the inning before departing the game on the winning side. For the night, Telemaco allowed just three baserunners over eight innings. He struck out four. Rusch (1-1) turned in his second solid start for the Indians since being sent down from Milwaukee one week ago. Rusch gave up a two-run homer to Travis Chapman with two outs in the first inning to account for the Red Barons only runs. The lefthander set down 19 of the final 23 men he faced before leaving after seven innings. He gave up five hits and one walk while striking out eight. Rusch's only other start with the Indians came Monday when he threw a seven-inning complete game at Pawtucket. Indiana University product and Valparaiso native Jim Crowell earned his third save for the Red Barons (40-40). Crowell gave up a hit to Doug Jennings and committed a throwing error to put two runners on with one out in the ninth, but retired the next two men to close out the game. Indians leadoff batter Bill Hall went hitless in four at-bats to end his eight-game hitting streak. The Indians return to Victory Field Saturday for a 7 p.m. contest against the Richmond Braves. The first 4,000 fans will receive a Razor Shines Bobblehead Doll as the start of an '80s weekend. Pasqual Coco (7-4, 4.65) is set to face Richmond's John Ennis (2-9, 5.75). BrewMoon, I have the Brewers on tonight, but experienced the same thing you are on Thursday evening with Indy's feed. Here's the link to the Red Barons' site, which should help you out: www.sportsjuice.com/provi...swbrbarons -
Tony Gwynn has been activated on to the Beloit roster from the Tempoary Inactive List. Even with Steve Moss' recent shoulder injury, the Snappers need to make room and 2002 4th round pick Nic Carter heads back to Helena. Carter's hitting an ugly .151 after 205 Beloit AB's thus far this season.

In a bit of a surprise, the Mavericks have announced the retirement of LHP Pete Smart. Signed in May 2001 as a 5th year senior out of the University of Kansas, Smart gave the Brewers solid innings in stops at Ogden, Beloit, and especially High Desert in his 2+ year stay. If it weren't for the loaded (and talented) level of pitching depth in Huntsville this year, Smart would have likely earned a rotation spot in AA to open 2003. Instead, he injured his arm early in this High Desert season, as he chronicled in his High Desert diaries, recently linked here at Brewerfan: pub123.ezboard.com/fbrewe...1332.topic It was mentioned just last week that Smart might be back soon, but obviously that's not the case now. With an advanced degree on the way, Pete will be just fine going forward -- Brewerfan wishes him well. Pete Smart Brewerfan Player Profile Page: www.brewerfan.net/ViewPla...ayerId=124 Not a good week for High Desert diary writers (Ernster, Smart...)
