  1. In all honesty, there is no compelling reason why we can't go to Iowa. In fact, my grandpa has been facing some significant health issues, so I was pretty much accepting the fact that we would be heading there. The issue I had was that the final decision was made for me by my sister, and I let that be known.
  2. Oh, holiday sagas, how I don't miss thee... After a relatively stress-free 2014 holiday season, full-fledged anger towards my family reared its ugly head today. My mother and I briefly discussed Thanksgiving plans over the weekend. The only decision that was made was that we would not travel to my sister's house in Eau Claire. My mother and I both received an email from my sister tonight declaring that we are going to my grandparents' house in Iowa. No discussion, no asking..."we are going to Iowa." I'm half tempted to boycott.
  3. Not at all. I went to the Wednesday practice round and it was packed, nearly to the levels it was on the Saturdays in both 2004 and 2010. I really liked the practice round because they let you take pictures, but you have no idea who's on the course if you are sitting at a hole. They have a couple of boards that tell you, but those are near the clubhouse.
  4. Madison's processing center was closed due to budget cuts, so that's why everything now goes to Milwaukee. I am still dumbfounded that local mail goes there just to come right back, though.
  5. We just got a letter today from my kids' day care, which is less than a mile away from our house. It is postmarked 8/5 and it went to Milwaukee before arriving at our house. We are in the same city as the day care, yet it went to Milwaukee first.
  6. When watching the news at the beginning of a month, and referring to a story from the previous week as "last month." Yes, it was last month, but referring to it that way seems like it was longer than it actually was.
  7. I drove on 41 from Fond du Lac to Green Bay today. The signs are mostly done. It seems really stupid to have one road signed twice with the same number. On a somewhat related note, today was the first time I have been on the freeways since the speed limit was raised to 70. People need to learn how to drive again it seems. Many people were still cruising at 68 or so, often in the left lane. So infuriating.
  8. I don't understand why they took the route of I-41 all the way down to Illinois when it doesn't extend into Illinois. They should have terminated it at the zoo interchange or requested an extension of I-55 from Illinois to Green Bay. This also begs the question...was it absolutely necessary to designate that freeway as an interstate?
  9. I have used my IPass on probably 6 or 7 different vehicles, including my in-laws' and my parents' cars. It's really easy to add a car to the account. Also, I have only mounted it in one car and that was because of a long road trip out east. I had it in the glove box getting off the Ohio turnpike and it registered. Not sure if you can do that in Illinois or not, but I have just held it up to the window when I go through a toll.
  10. The best pair of golf shoes I ever had were Adidas, but they no longer make the shoe I had. I used them until the soles split from the shoe, even tried to have them repaired because they were so comfortable. I am roughly your size...a bit heavier but not much. I have Foot Joys right now and I get severe blisters on my heels, so I'm in the market for new shoes.
  11. I was listening to sports radio yesterday, and someone was giving a wrap up of the John Deere Classic. It went something like this... "Jordan Spieth won the John Deere Classic yesterday, and today, he is heading to England for the British Open." Sigh...
  12. I actually have a Canon, and it won't print even in grayscale if one of the cartridges is out of ink. I take them to Costco to get them refilled, but it still costs $9/each to refill, and it seems I am always getting them filled.
  13. Teaching (at least high school kids) is so much easier than watching two young kids. Staying at home, I find myself exhausted at the end of the day and often want to take a nap midday, but my 4 year old won't let that happen. That doesn't happen teaching. More recently, we cannot go anywhere in public without a meltdown happening. I have been that parent who had had to drag their screaming, kicking kid out of places on numerous occasion so far this summer. It's embarrassing.
  14. Being a teacher, I obviously get summers off. We have two young children (4 and 12 months) and we pull them out of day care for the summer to save on costs, which means I get to watch them all summer long. This is the first time I've had 2 kids to watch. When I tell people what my summer plans are, everyone always keeps telling me, "oh, you are so fortunate" and "enjoy every moment of it. You will make so many memories." Well, my 4 year old is high spirited, demands constant attention, and is prone to having major temper tantrums. My 12 month old is nearly walking and gets into everything. The older one always thinks the younger one is going after her stuff, and tackles her, causing the younger one to cry. This is routine. I have not enjoyed it at all and I can't wait until school resumes in August. I give tons of credit to those who stay at home full time...I could never do it.
  15. I print in "greyscale" and it is still using all the ink colors. What's worse, is if one of the colors is empty, the printer won't print anything, even in just black ink.
  16. The players complaining about Chambers Bay was like them complaining about Whistling Straights after the 2010 PGA. The course is tough, it's designed to be tough, and you can't play it like a "normal" course like they are used to. These guys are the best golfers in the world, and seeing winning scores of -15, -17, ect... really doesn't show how challenging some courses are. I laughed at one guy who had a putt that jumped up as it was rolling towards the cup. Do you know how often that happens to me when I'm out there golfing? Yeah, it may cause you to lose a stroke, it's annoying, and I hate it, but it's also on me to make sure the path I want to take to the cup is clear of things that can cause my ball to do something I don't want it to do. I had some sympathy for guys who had a ball miss by an inch, nearly stop, then start to roll until it was 20 feet away. It reminded me of a shot Payne Stewart had in the US Open about 20 years ago. I'm really interested to see how Erin Hills will play in two years.
  17. All I want to do is print some documents in black and white. Why must, then, my printer insist on using cyan, magenta, and yellow ink to accomplish that task?
  18. The Mallards draw well because the atmosphere is conductive to taking kids. The most expensive non-party area seat is $12, with other tickets being $10 and $8. I doubt an AAA team would be as affordable, so attendance would suffer. I have also never been to an AAA game, so I don't know if the game experience is more like a Northwoods League game or an MLB game. I think if they just swapped out the Mallards with an AAA team and everything else stayed the same, the team would do just fine in Madison without hurting attendance at MP.
  19. I have really liked Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt on Netflix. It's only 3 episodes, but worth it. Also, I don't know if it was mentioned, but Better Off Ted didn't get the run it deserved. One of my all-time favorite sitcoms.
  20. Well, it's the first day of tornado watches and warnings, so better get this thread up and running. There was some insane video of a massive tornado that tracked from at least Rochelle, IL through Belvidere. The storm continued up through Lake Geneva, but I didn't see anything that said it was still on the ground by the time it got to Wisconsin.
  21. Have you ever watched West Wing? It is one of my all-time favorite shows. Seasons 1-4 are better, IMO, than the remainder, but it is a very solid show.
  22. The boys basketball team at the school I teach at is going to state. This is the first time in a long time. Some of you know where I teach, and if you do, you know what kind of week we had at our school, so we needed this.
  23. What have you watched already? My obvious choice would be House of Cards, but I'm going to assume you've watched that already.
  24. I just started Season 4...it is literally one of the best shows I have watched.
