1. It's not just Mad Men...they did it in an episode of House of Cards that I watched recently. It seems it's the go to shot with TV.
2. I have always wondered how many people, when they "have a drink," drink like they do on TV/movies...pouring straight booze without ice into a tumbler and drink it. It seems every TV show and movie, whenever they say "can I fix you a drink" does this. I'm guessing it's because who wants to see someone get ice, open a bottle of soda, and actually mix a drink.
3. The biggest issue with developing the area around MP is the fact that the stadium is only used 81 days a year. That is a lot of time where nothing is going on down there, and any hotel that would open in the area would see a significant number of nights where occupancy would be low. Same with bars/restaurants. I was in Phoenix a few years ago before the baseball season began, and it was a ghost town. Most bars were closed and there was a sense of emptiness.
4. I said knock down the US Cellular Arena, build the arena there, expand the convention center, and connect the arena with the convention center (like it was when it was MECCA). This could bring some huge conventions to Milwaukee, providing there is hotel space. The issue would be the size of the US Cellular footprint would likely be way too small, unless they also knock down the Milwaukee Theater, which won't happen.
5. The ball-and-glove logo should be on the hats full time This. I actually don't mind the current jerseys at all. I have always preferred script lettering over block lettering (which is why I own a retro Brewers jersey with script instead of block lettering). I also like the dark blue coloring scheme better than the lighter blue on the retro jerseys. Still, the ball and glove logo needs to have a permanent presence. I like what the Twins did...they ditched the M logo for the retro TC logo and everyone is happy.
6. Every year around this time, I check area schools to see if they have any jobs posted that I may be interested in. This past week, the high school in the town I live in posted a job that is very similar to the current job I have, and I am going to apply for it. However, the school district requires applicants to submit three letters of recommendation. My three letters are all five years old, so I should probably get new ones. The problem is I don't necessarily want people in my school to know I am actively looking for a new job. Any suggestions on what do to with the letters of recommendation?
7. If you have Netflix, Better off Ted. It's only 2 seasons, but it was hilarious.
8. I was given a spare tire cover for our RAV4 for Christmas a couple years ago. I had a very difficult time getting it on correctly, and ended up not trusting that it would stay on. It has been sitting in a closet for a year or so, and I want to get rid of it, but was not given a return receipt from the person who gave it to me. Here is a picture... It says it fits tire rim sizes up to 16" (which may explain my troubles getting the thing on my spare). It's in perfect condition, but the bag ripped when I tried to get it back in. I'm looking at unloading this for $25 OBO (they go for over $40 online). PM me if you are interested.
9. I am in another pool and I just copied my picks from that pool. Apparently, you can't change your bracket name across different pools when you do that, so I'm Crimea River.
10. Apparently, seeds aren't locked into certain locations, so they could be a #1 and still play in Milwaukee.
11. I realized today that I made an error on taxes. I already filed, which means I have to amend my tax return. The error hurts us and benefits the government, so at least I wouldn't have gotten in trouble. It just means I made a $200 error. It bugs me.
12. Well, the danger factor was present in the women's slopestyle last night. A Czech boarder crashed and slammed her head so hard that her helmet cracked on the back. She was clearly knocked out cold, but came to and finished the run under her own power. I also saw one of the American men's downhill skiers hit a jump at around 83 mph and fly 80 yards through the air. Unreal.
13. I've always liked the winter games better. I think because most winter events have some sort of danger and crazy factor to them. There is always a chance of injury, which makes those who finish seem like they have accomplished something huge.
14. This winter has killed most of my will to stay living in Wisconsin...
15. Largely because of various disputes with family regarding when/where to host Christmas, I get to stay home this year. This is probably only the 2nd or 3rd time in my life I get to be at home for Christmas and it is so liberating. The tradeoff is I have to cook a dinner, but I'm going easy (ham in a crock pot and twice baked potatoes). It is wonderful being home today.
16. I have won the regular season in a league 3 years in a row now, and have lost the first round of the playoffs each year. Last year I was 12-1, this year 12-2 (different leagues) and got obliterated in the playoffs, only to finish 3rd each time. This year, I ran into injury problems late in the season and there was no one left to pick up off the scrap heap, largely because the guy I lost to picked up most of the best free agents.
17. Where were you last December 20/21st? I think we had over 18 inches of snow over the course of 2 days and we didn't have school 2 consecutive days. Perhaps Milwaukee didn't get hit with that storm like Madison did.
18. Christmas is coming up, and that only means one thing...NMF is arguing with family about when we are going to get together! Hooray for me liking the holiday season less and less every year!
19. It was on the Strip near the Flamingo, but apparently it closed last year and they are building a new development with a giant ferris wheel.
20. You guys missed out on O'Shea's...$1 tables! But, you have to be there before noon, and they deal cards face-down, which I don't like. I remember a dealer saying that some casinos like Hard Rock were paying even for a blackjack in hopes of getting more double downs on the 11 showing. This was especially true on single-deck tables.
21. We were supposed to get our fireplace replaced today. We were going from wood to gas. The guy who came out initially to check out our fireplace suggested it, and I liked the idea. The installers get here today, and they said the sales guy was wrong and it can't be done. Then another guy came out, and said that it could potentially be done, but it will require more work. I'm not so pleased with this.
22. Last week at a department meeting at school, one of our assistant principals mentioned that she was looking for someone to fill an open coordinator position at our school and it would result in a 20% pay raise. I came forward as being interested. Today, she informed me that the head principal asked someone else to fill the position before this meeting, and didn't bother to tell the assistant principal. So instead of interviewing people for this position, she asked someone to take it on. My school's principal has favorites that she asks to do stuff all the time, and I'm clearly not one of the favorites. I let the assistant principal know my disappointment and how I have been wanting an opportunity like this for some time. I am looking at becoming a principal at some point in my life, and I figured stuff like this will look good when it comes to actually applying for principal positions down the road. The head principal did something similar with another position this week...appointed rather than interviewed. It bothers me a lot that people who would be strong leaders are completely ignored because the administration does not make an effort to find out who are natural leaders...they just assume.
23. I don't think I'm saying I have forgiven Braun and insist that everyone else does as well. I just don't like the attitude that because he lied last year he is automatically lying right now as well. I think this whole thing needs to play out a little longer than a day to be able to truly know if he is lying right now. I'm not saying he's telling the truth, either, because he may very well be lying...but I don't know that, and there is no way for anyone to know that. I'm glad he released a statement, though like others, would have liked to see him in front of cameras (but be honest, do you think he would have opened himself up to a Q&A session after he read his prepared statement? No way.).
24. And what if this the truth, what will you say then? What will happen if three, four, or more years go by and there are no more accusations? There is only one person who knows for certain what the truth is and if what has been said is true or not.
25. It came out in early 2013. Yeah, it was after the 2012 season, but it still happened. Hypothetically speaking, say he made this admission just to get people off his back, but the admission was a lie...he actually only used in 2011. How would you feel then?
