  1. He isn't doing well.... 242 BA, 9 HR 327 OBP. He's 35. Yet...... oh yet, being in a playoff run could revitalize this guy. He's signed for 11 million this year; club option at 10 million for next year. This makes us deeper, not having to rely on Villar as much. More than anything, this deal shouldn't cost us a top prospect. Plus, it looks like Detroit is looking to rid salary. Plus, it would bridge the gap to 2019 when one of our prospects (Diaz, Dubon) should be ready at 2B.
  2. A couple of games into the trade and some have decided the major league outcome of two guys with 6 years of team control? I like the trade, even though it hasn't looked good..... yet.
  3. Because Dejesus raked in spring training... Because if past major league results meant a lot, this team wouldn't be above .500..... Because some players actually improve... Because of Sogard's success..... Sogard is useless then too, right? Play the hot hand, not the .190 hitter against lefties lead off in the middle of a playoff race when your AAA middle infielders are hitting well. Sogard, the other former AAA infielder who is hurt here has an OBP well into the .400's. By your logic, Sogard would have never been called up because of poor past results.
  4. Saturday's line at Arizona rookie ball (rehab) 2IP 1 ER........ He's going to get his shot in the rotation come August, perhaps the fresh arm we need down the stretch..,
  5. Are we seriously going to trot this dude out daily? Against lefties too? And lead him off? We are almost forced to play him with Sogard out..... not sure why Dejesus isn't up...... he's crushing the ball in AAA too, right?
  6. Just this year or next year too?
  7. What? Our pitching is incredibly top heavy. We would be throwing Nelson or Anderson in the wild card game, whichever one doesn't pitch in the wild card game in game 1 of the NLDS against Kershaw if we win and then going with either Guerra, Davies, Garza or Woodruff for game 2, back to the wild card starter for game 3, Nelson or Anderson for game 4 and then back to Guerra, Davies, Garza or Woodruff for game 5. I agree with your starters ( as now) and when they would pitch...... yet I think we add a starter at some point this year- he is in the mix somehow. I think Hader starts come August. Plus, Hader and Woodruff might be better than Nelson and Anderson if given the opportunity.
  8. Was it the plan all along this year to have Hader come out of the pen midstream, or did this Change when the Brewers were "in it" come June? Was this ever asked to CC? I like the wrinkle he adds to the pen, but I can see him being a key to the rotation this year too.
  9. I disagree. 1. Small sample, but the visiting team is 7-3 in the single-elimination WC games. 2. Disadvantage in subsequent starting pitching matchups because of wild card game. 3. Dominance of LA this year. They are on pace to win 111 games. The wild card games are just trouble all around. They need to be avoided. Imagine dropping two of them in a row like the Pirates did in 2014 and 2015. 1. How many times was the home team favored? 2. Our pitching is not really that top heavy (yet). It wouldn't affect us as much as other teams. 3. Good point.... yet I'd rather play them than Washington or Chicago. Imagine getting in and winning it all.... that's happened too.
  10. Really? We are that much of an underdog against the Dodgers? No way. If we get the #1 WC and home field, it will be above a 50% chance we win..... more like 60 to 70% against whomever. If we play the Dodgers, they'll have the advantage. Yet, Kershaw has not dominated in the playoffs recently...... Dodgers either.
  11. Hypothetical..... If we could opt for a guaranteed playoff spot as one of the wild cards, would you opt in? That means we give up the possibility of winning the division, likely to Cubs (or Cards). Feel free to go into detail of different scenarios upon which you would take/not take that option. Here I go.... If I was assured the Cubs would not be in playoffs, I take the WC #1 or #2. To be in this year and the Cubs out... oh, that is just too rich to pass up. If I was assured the #1 WC, I take it. This assures Brewers of at least one home playoff game. That is one more than anyone would have thought at beginning of season (or even June). Yet, this is likely allowing Cubs in. If I was assured of #2 WC, however, I don't take it. No playoff home game assurance would lead me to just play out the season. If I was assured #3 spot as division winner (no home field adv. in Div. Series), I jump at that too. You?
  12. Does anyone one else feel like CC is just managing his innings so that when August hits, he is moved back to the rotation full force? Or is this bullpen thing permanent, well for this season at least? He has solidified the pen with a late lefty, multiple inning reliever. CC won't say what he is thinking for many reasons. If Hader struggles,he won't be put in rotation, just optioned back to AAA to start. No huge disappointment. If he does well, he could stay, be moved into rotation with less innings on his arm late in the season. Personally, I feel Hader will start games in August and September. This reliever stuff is just smoke and mirrors until the last 6 or 7 weeks of the season. We need our best pitchers to pitch more innings, and Hader qualifies as one. We also need our starting staff to be solidified, partly because of injuries, partly because of inexperience and ineffectiveness. We will be able to pick up spare parts to the pen much easier for much less than a starter come late July.
  13. Yeah. Wholeheartedly agree with this. I have super fond memories of the 82 season, and the early 80's Brewers in general, but man, I don't know ANY team in sports that celebrates *not* winning a championship like the Brewers do. I am glad that we remember that team and celebrate them. Most of that team was not just 82, remember. Many played together for several years, were Brewers for several years. That year represents the best of that era. The fact that Milwaukee celebrates a World Series loss, unlike any other franchise, should be a badge of honor for our fan base's dedication and loyalty in good/bad times. It should also tell how special those guys were to this city as a whole... very unusual. That being said, they have been celebrating this team every 5 years for a while now. I'm really ok with it, but I probably would have skipped the 35 year celebration and waited til 40 and then 50.
  14. Yo and Greinke were tough..... Put a couple of those type pitchers on top of our rotation, and the doubters go away.
  15. The Brewers tv station (channel 18?) ran the 1981 2nd half clinching Fingers moment throughout the year to begin/intro telecasts. I would jump into my dad's arms like Simmons did to Fingers, and likewise I would mess up his hair. As a kid, asking my uncles and dad to pitch to me while watching the 1982 World Series... they grudgingly wanted to watch the game. Getting scolded for cheering when Andujar got injured a bit on a comebacker in the World Series..... a lesson that stayed with me still
  16. .... for a controllable front-line starter.
  17. I'll second this one rather than doing my own...
  18. Our defense saved a couple other possible blown saves. That being said, where would we be without him?
  19. Right, it's pretty easy to be inconspicuous. If you eye up the situation around the time the game is starting it's pretty easy to move down to where it's apparent that nobody will be sitting in a particular seat, yet close enough to other occupied seats that you blend in. Not so much in the Club Level since you have to show your ticket indicating you belong up there at the Club Level entrance. I haven't had to show my ticket even once in the seating area the last several times I've gone. Yet, only people with club tickets are there.. probably the most protected area in the park.
  20. Brewers ushers seem to watch the entire Club level, Field Inf and Field Of like hawks.... many ushers around and check tix before you sit fairly often. They also watch Loge level infield behind the plate (where I usually sit) well. I'm surprised at the lack of ushers in the Loge down the lines and in bleacher area. It can get quite rowdy for some games there, and ushers have seemingly no clue what is going on, partly because one usher is watching 5 sections or so.... not sure how things are handled in the Terrace.
  21. No way. Maybe just content..... for now.
  22. They will pick up starting pitching... good starting pitching in the next few weeks.
  23. I want the legit #1 that we can put at the top of the rotation, the guy with 96 mph heaters and nasty off speed stuff for 7 innings. If they would throw in a good, controllable reliever, and a couple lottery picks in low A, I would do that deal. We have OF depth. We still would have pitching depth headlined with Woodruff.
