  1. More Hiura at DH and bring up Frelick to play in CF. The offense needs to get a kick start.
  2. Absurd to not ride the hot bat now. Sitting Hiura and pinch hitting him when a RIGHTY is pitching is like pinch running for Ruiz at AAA. Let the guy do what he does best, especially of late. And give him the DH five nights a week. Jerking him around. Crazy and stubborn of CC.
  3. Just play Hiura 5 times a week, bat him 8th, and give him DH. There is a spot for him, especially this year with the DH. McCutchen can still play over half the games in CF or even some DH. Like others say, Hiura has been jerked around. Even the last two/three days, he has hardly played after hitting very well in Nashville the week prior. Just An at bat for a thrown out of game Yelich does not help. His #s against righties this year is MVP like in limited at bats, and he needs at bats, he needs comfort in knowing he is going to play consistently for the next three or four weeks, comfort in knowing he will DH and not be thrown in at 1B, 2B, or LF, comfort in batting lower in the lineup, and comfort in knowing he isn’t going to be sent down in August. I hope CC can sit down and tell him this in a nutshell. Give him the best opportunity to succeed. Do or die time, really, for him.
  4. It is still puzzling! Of course, it is. Lamet sounds like an easy decision to keep in the pen. Move Milner down or cut Suter. McGee? Really baffling to trade for, plan on having him, brag him up to defend Hader trade, and then get rid of him the next day. And pay SD to take him. And give a supposedly good pitcher away for nothing, Mlbtraderumors says that if no one picks up Lamet, he can refuse being sent to Nashville because he has five years of service time. He would get his entire contract as FA. No need to even be sent down to get $.
  5. Lamet.. Either oversight of the 5th year option OR the Bush trade was considered better value.
  6. Better to just take on salary of a guy and cut him? What are they going to do when Cousins, Gustave, and Houser return? Rose tall? More mysterious injuries, I presume.
  7. Well, I meant optioned based on the info at sportrac. It said he had options. But yeah, Suter could have been let go too. This guy should be better, right? Kind of sad that we are taking on salary for, of all teams, SD who added more payroll than about anyone! Everyone’s grade of this trade better get adjusted down a bit if this guy isn’t even playing with us. We’d rather have Suter instead of this guy. Trade goes from C- to D for me…. And it makes us look like idiots. for forcing us to take on salary for giving up one of the best relief pitchers in the history of the game.
  8. Lamet is costing them what, 1.7 mil REGARDLESS if he plays here or not! Cutting him did what for us? We are on the hook for this money. Why in the world do we not play him? We could have put Suter down. He has options. Like someone else said on a different post, we have like 10 bullpen guys for 5 “open” spots. Fake injuries could be called on again.
  9. Or produces a double play. I hear you, though. Good points. Hiura hit .381 in July, OBP 480. Slugging 714. Struck out at 31% rate. Has like a 7 game on base streak going…it doesn’t scream send him down.
  10. Goes both ways…. Just pointing out the positive with same stats.
  11. Besides those… ha. Well, there is the DH. That is different, right? That is my 1, 2, and 3 reason to play him more. The 4 is that our DH spot has not done well, right? The bar isn’t high to get him more at bats. He’s a similar hitter to the last few years. Yep. Sure. He strikes out too much. Sure. Good. He also has had some bright spots this year with HRs and BB. He’s been jerked around daily on top of it. Play Him all over the field. Bat in all these different spots.
  12. OPS and OBP neutralize those stats somewhat. Hiura has a small sample size too, and that goes both ways. More regular opportunities would possibly bring up his low marks. He is hitting well in Nashville too.
  13. Yeah, can’t have those .800 plus OPS guys around taking at bats away from real hitters or the third catcher.
  14. Well, that’s assuming a lot. I’d put Renfroe at 3 almost daily now. I don’t think Yelich is our best lead off hitter against lefties either. Brosseau would be intriguing.
  15. Adames has hit in the clutch well this year. With people on base, with two outs, I’ll give him that.
  16. Another. You explain it to me with stats this year, please.
  17. I really am not a Hiura fan. I just think he could help us this year. Here it is, he does not need to play a position this year. DH. He also has hit well this year. He was hitting well when he was sent down and has hit (I believe) overall for the year.
  18. When people just say “old school” or “just antiquated” without a fairly good reason, red flags go up. An explanation would be helpful. Wouldnt everyone want higher OPS guys batting higher? Is OPS old school too? Isn’t that a pretty good overall stat to merit worth? I just read batting avg doesn’t matter in one post, and another said that a guy with a batting average lower than .200 should expect to get demoted. Well Adames is batting .217. Then I see “Best hitter” from someone else too. Adames puts ball in play a little better than Hiura, and Hiura has somewhat power stats than Adames, They aren’t that different this year. One hits second daily for a playoff team. The other is in Nashville. I just can’t see the logic.
  19. Hiura should be a bit bitter, imo. How Adames is revered at #2 for what he does- hit for power and Ks at like 27% rate is similar to Hiura who has hit for power and Ks a lot. One isn’t that different than the other. One plays everyday batting 2nd. The other is in Nashville.
  20. Old baseball thinking? Ok. Then with new age hip baseball stats, Rowdy and Renfroe have been hitting better this year in about every measurable stat, right? OPS is still very telling. I actually don’t see that much of a difference between Hiura and Adames. Actually, imo, I’d rather have Hiura hitting #2 this year, based on what he has actually done of late at the plate. I think it is worth it to finally give him some rope to perform somewhat regularly, not just a day here or there. And the DH spot has been a whole anyways. Drop Adames since he is like our 4th or 5th best hitter.
