  1. Tough to be blah when in first place. The selling began on July 31. It was loud and clear. And Hader still somehow outperformed our scrap heap in deadline trade returns, which managed to lead the league in blown saves over the last two months with some gift money to Rosenthal to celebrate the Cards winning the division..
  2. We are literally right in the middle of the Winter Meetings and free agency. Teams Plan A and B have not come to fruition, and teams are looking to get better somehow. Yet we say we no dice… we are not even going to talk about moving them because we are focused on competing in 2023. That’s fine and all(I would be excited if we added payroll and really went for it in 2023 and 2024)…. but the Hader, Renfroe, and Wong trades do not suggest that. It’s more like we NEED desperately to cut payroll in 2023 and get spare young parts for the future like a seller would. Mixed messages. Not a great master plan, IMO. Right now, I do not see how we add huge pieces in FA or make any significant trade for 2023 specifically. Blah since July 31…
  3. Yeah, I am surprised. Why not even shop Burnes, Woodruff or Adames? If we are not going to commit big money to them anyways, why not see what we could get. If it isn’t a ton, keep them. Why tip your hand? The team seems like they themselves don’t know what route they are taking long term or especially short.
  4. The promise lasts what… til June? Still will be surprised if they all are here by season’s end. Trading off Hader, Renfroe, and Wong for uninspiring “junk”….then proclaiming how the core three are off limits, guys that would actually bring back a haul of prospects, all because of devotion to 2023 (not 2024, by the way….a couple or all traded, I expect, for less). Mixed messages. Even if team is ok come July, no one is safe. Brewers are trading like a seller, and preaching like a buyer for 2023. We’ll see if any move gets us excited. That hasn’t happened yet. We are worse, on paper, than last year right now. We’ll see.
  5. Will be surprised if one of those three ISN’T traded…
  6. Giving Woodruff that much money PER YEAR and for four more years, in addition to next year? And Yelich gets his money. Just not seeing it. Attendance down. This conversation should happen in July or so and maybe not even tgen. Let’s see how 2023 goes first. Very uneasy giving any pitcher big money to his mid 30s.

  8. The day of trade CC and Stearns talked up Lamet too…. What happened, I do not understand. They valued Brent Suter, we learned.
  9. It is a shame, indeed. Maybe I missed it…
  10. You are confusing what is being said. I believe it is a slam dunk, easy decision, to play Hiura DH against righties. Cutch should sit. I am not calling on Hiura to be the Brewers rep. at the All Star Game….. He’s the team’s best option.. easy… for this year against righties at DH. He also is getting such limited at bats and spot starts; that would be tough and difficult on anybody. Yet he STILL has a better OPS than our best hitter(?)…the guy that cannot be taken out of the 2 spot! His righty OPS numbers are comparable to MVP candidates. AND our team desperately needs another threat against righties. Are we hoping that Cutch will come around the last part of September? It would be great to see what his numbers would be with twice the at bats, with all or most against righties. Hiura was just playing against lefties for a while and Cutch continues, mind you, to still face righties. Nobody is bragging Cutch’s #s up much when putting Hiura down, by the way. Also, I tire of the reasoning that since CC decided it, it must be the right decision. He makes mistakes too, and it is ok to question this. He should have a good excuse for not playing a better hitting option at DH in a select situation, but he doesn’t. At least not a sane one. Cutch is better, he thinks, for 2022 than Hiura at DH against righties. This decision is keeping us on the outside of the playoffs right now, much like not giving Aguilar many more at bats in 2017.
  11. Offensively, Adames has well over twice as many at bats as Hiura. Adames plays SS…plays a key defensive position well. Granted, He should play there a lot. However, to hit him second daily, feature him as the best hitter on the team, and dare not take him out of the lineup for a day is too much. He is still not hitting a better OPS than Hiura, who is in the doghouse for whatever reason. CC said it wasn’t the Ks, by the way, back in August. My reasoning for INCLUDING Adames in all this? If one is so high on hitting Adames second, they should be that high or really much higher on merely having Hiura in the lower part of the lineup, hitting DH ( I tire of those bringing defense into an argument against Hiura… there is a DH now and McCutchen isn’t good), batting regularly against right handed starting pitching… which means he should start about 65% of the time. If one is low on Hiura and his bat, then one should be low on having Adames too, especially hitting daily in the #2 spot.
  12. Let’s play a fun game…. Let’s look at how much more 944 is than 680 4 minus 0 is 4. Can’t go 4 minus 8. Let’s borrow from 9. 14 minus 8 is 6. 8 minus 6 is 2….. so 264 more. You are trying to do what exactly? The bar Hiura needs to beat to play DH regularly against righties is low. Even if you chop off 150 points from his OPS, he’s still better.
  13. Yet who has a better OPS overall? Not Adames. One plays every day. The other has a version of the baseball plague. Scraps and spot starts. Hiura should play DH ……EVERY GAME….against every righty. There is no argument with the numbers. Never seen anything like it,
  14. Sad how Hiura is being managed…. Adames can do no wrong… Hiura cannot do much right to earn regular starts at DH over a .680 OPS McCutchen. Would love to hear a good reason for the MADNESS.
  15. Getting called to bunt in the 9th there…
  16. Met him in the concourse of Miller Park about 15-20 years ago. He signed a ball for me and we talked 82. I told him I was young but I still remembered his long last at bat in Game 7. He struck out but to me it showed great grit and will. He said, “13 pitches, right?” I wasn’t sure then or even now, but it was a cool moment at Miller Park with Stormin. The actual people on that team were so loved. Many of those players were veterans in the game and had played several seasons with the Brewers. Best run of teams from 1977-1983.

  18. And by the way, Hiura’s OPS is 1.120 against RHP. He still might be sitting against righties. Goldschmidt and Arenado, MVP candidates, cannot match this with .903 and .970 vs rhp respectively.
  19. Great ideas…. Out of all of them, Cleveland would be my choice. Maybe a trip thru Fort Wayne to a minor league game and their famous children’s zoo. Friday night in June fits my schedule better than the others too. Love the idea of seeing all teams. Will be looking forward to each year’s schedule more now too, seeing if a trip to a certain city lines up well.

  21. Balls be ripped…. Righties beware.
  22. 90 PA vs righties .299 Avg/ .400 OBP/ 1.036 OPS And that is with those at bats S PR E A D out over this season!!!! Truly remarkable. Defenseless decision by Counsel. STILL stubborn. Honestly wondering if he starts more than a game in LA. Very questionable if that happens STILL.
  23. CC lost games sitting him in August. Plain and simple. Close, low scoring games were lost with him on the bench. And then when he played, it was often a pinch hit or starts against a lefty. Rare at bats for like 3 weeks. There is a hole in his swing, sure. But he walks and hits mistakes hard. He’s hitting better than anyone on the team! Just play him! What more can he do? Let him be bad. Then sit him. Like everyone else ever.
