  1. So who are likely to be in the mix for starting rotation in spring training (for this discussion assume CBA gets settled prior to spring training with no major differences). Here are some names I can come up with Miz, Henderson, Harrison, Gasser, Drohan, Priester, Ashby (I think he is more valuable in pen), Patrick (probably more likely in pen), Woodruff (FA/Retire?), Coleman Crow, Brandon Sproat, Coltan Gordon Does anyone above not belong or anyone I'm missing. Are there any other minor leaguers that might have a realistic shot at the starting rotation next year. From that list Miz, Henderson, and Gasser would be locks at this point? Seems like a lot of good options for the final 2 spots.
  2. Not necessarily against giving him a big contract. I would guess at the time everyone was all for giving Yelich a big contract when he got it. But this year there has been a lot of grumbling about his production. Well, he isn't going anywhere because of that contract. So, if we do this he is going to be our long term catcher good/bad/other. Point being that you have to be smart about these things. Any way the Brewers play this could backfire.
  3. They are going to have to make tough choices going forward due to a bad decision not to start Ras for GM1. Need to take advantage of that.
  4. Honestly I was cringing every time I heard someone talk about historical greatness yesterday. The team played like that got in their heads a bit. This is a really good team and good enough to win a world series. But so is TB. So they need to play better than them (they didn't last night) or TB will be world series champs.
  5. Yeah TB has their own pitching woes which probably are worse than ours. Not starting Ras in GM1 being #1 and using Martinez for a couple innings, and their closer for a couple puts then in a real pickle for today. And if they use Ras or Peralta today, then that will have spill over consequences for potential Gm 6/7. I'm not feeling real good today, but still would rather be us than them.
  6. Well that could be a high risk option and allow things to potentially spiral out of control.
  7. What exactly is the approach and who is the brainchild of it? Stearns/Arnold/Counsel/Murph? Someone else?
  8. Well, I won' be as nervous with a 3-0 series lead, but expect it to be a spooktacticle outing.
  9. Seems like the thing Murph will do. I would also expect him to go to the high leverage pen guys unless it gets way out of control early.
  10. If Joey was hitting better right now I would be with you. But his bat seems to have cooled off. Pratt has made some really tough plays. He seems like he has the tools just needs to keep focus.
  11. Pushing him back to gm 2 made gm 2 a must win for them. They are in a big hole now.
  12. I'm not quite sure I would say he fell off in Sept. He had 9 appearances in Sept. The last appearance was bad, 4 runs. He didn't give up any runs in the other appearances.
  13. I'm with you on this one. Kind of surprised they didn't use Patrick at all in previous series, and May has not been dependable at all. Scratch my head at this one, hope it's not a trying to save face move due to trading for May.
  14. On one hand I never thought we could beat the Dodgers with that rotation. So, it kind of feels like we are playing with house money and anything beyond that is a bonus. On the other hand, it almost seems like this is a destiny team to have done what they have done so far. And a destiny team doesn't just come close...it finishes the deal.
  15. 100 out of 100 would take Miz, unless his mom was one of them😂
  16. If the 7 games were all Miz vs Martinez which pitcher would you take?
  17. On the flip side you are essentially conceding 2 games. Which means you have to win 4 of the remaining 5. That puts pressure on your team to win GM 2&3. If it ends in 6 Peralta only pitches 1 game.
  18. The more I think about it, the more it looks like a desperation move for a team that thinks the're outmatched.
  19. True, If they don't win both GM's 2 AND 3 they have put themselves in a BIG hole.
  20. Interesting strategy. Would the Brewers swapping Gasser and Henderson be a good counter strategy?
  21. Agree with a lot of your points, but we got to where we are right now by trading guys like Contreras for prospects that will help you in the future. So, you stick with what works...right? The reason in my mind to deviate are things like; what if we don't win it all this year, then maybe you go all in for next year (that might mean keeping Conteras for final year and trading some minor league capital to get a player or two to get you over the hump). Or maybe if the new CBA rules necessitate changes in strategy.
  22. Yeah it seemed like Murph planned on just getting some bulk innings out of May regardless of the results. When May held them in check for a couple of innings and they started to chip away. Murph went all in
  23. Yep! This didn’t go according to anyone’s script. There was one game (GM 2 of NLDS, I think) that I was so stressed that I didn’t watch the end. After that game I just decided to sit back and enjoy the ride (good, bad, or other)
  24. I don’t dislike Counsell. At the time when he went to the Cubs, my thought was, sucks to be the Cubs. I thought at the time and still do that he is not a good playoff manager. So I was ready to move on. Didn’t realize how good Murph would be though!
  25. It will be interesting to see how Murph uses the bullpen this game from a strategic standpoint. With a 3-0 series lead, Murphy has the luxury to rest guys who need it. Uribe may be the first sign of the overuse of the bullpen. On the flip side, seems like it could be dangerous to give a game away here. LA could gain some offensive momentum throughout the rest of the series if it has a hit parade today because Murph decides to rest his high leverage arms. A close loss (vs blow out loss) may force LA to utilize one or more of their starters in relief (all hands on deck) which may give us a decided advantage in upcoming games. Not sure there is a right/wrong answer but something that could be applauded or criticized afterwards depending on how things playout.
