  1. I really don't know how the Packers can be left in the cold, as I legit don't think they care if he just retires. It's really the Jets who have themselves hanging out there right now. Lamar is a pipe dream, so Rodgers is their only legitimate option, and if the deal falls through, their fanbase will lose their minds. The Packers are in a situation where if things stall out, I wouldn't be stunned to hear someone like Shefter reporting in the next week that the Colts have 'put feelers out' to Green Bay to inquire about Rodgers....
  2. This is where I also go back to the 'his side of the story' point. He said 'something had changed' and he 'heard through his sources in the league' that the Packers were shopping him around. Does that mean they were trying to dump him at all costs to whoever was interested? Or were they simply determining possible interest to hedge in the possible even that Rodgers emerged from the darkness and TOLD them he wanted to be traded? We'll likely never know the Packers' side of it since they don't talk about that stuff, other than the atypically candid comments from Murphy at a high school basketball tournament, to know whether that's factual or not.
  3. Yep, it's completely fair and reasonable to say that they should have traded him last year but didn't because not trading him last year was also a reasonable, logical path to take at the time. Both can be correct in this case.
  4. No, he didn't specifically. Here is his exact quote from yesterday: {The report was} "I had a sheet of paper when I met with the Jets and I said SIGN THESE PEOPLE- that's not the reality." Semantics matter with Rodgers. He said he didn't demand they sign anyone. Doesn't mean they didn't talk about who he wanted them to sign. In fact, he flat-out went on to say they discussed other Packer teammates.
  5. The funny thing about the compensation part of this is that I'd think Rodgers wouldn't want the Jets to give up significant draft capital this year so that they have a better chance to improve the team, while his personality also suggests he could be offended if they're only willing to give up a 3rd for him.
  6. To illustrate the point on Rodgers and semantics, he didn't say the wish list was fake, but that he didn't provide a list of demands that had to be met. Semantics matters with him.
  7. Sure was. The point is, it was HIS explanation. And he has a history of spinning things the way he wants to.
  8. I think the issue is more with the latter part of that, as he proved that what he says is deliberate and often deliberately misleading. For people to then take what he said yesterday as an accurate portrayal of the situation knowing his history is pretty odd. As with any two-sided story, there's his story, their story, and the truth. What we heard yesterday was just his story, and he has a history of manipulating how he conveys his story.
  9. It would be beyond hilarious at this point, and it seems at least somewhat possible, if he doesn’t announce anything and everyone loses their minds.
  10. This has been the odd dichotomy of the past two years, really, when the grumbling started from Rodgers' camp- he wants his guys, and often seems to ignore that those guys aren't the players they used to be. I can't forget that press conference where he rattled off the long list of veteran players that he was upset the Packers didn't retain that had gone off to do nothing with their next franchise and faded into the sunset. If moving Rodgers to another team keeps the team from feeling obligated to resign 'his' aging guys to unwise contracts, all the better for Green Bay.
  11. I also think it's fair to note that Rodgers has a long history of being a spiteful, grudge-holding guy. Doesn't seem like too much of a stretch to wonder if since the Packers appear to have told him they're wanting to move on, dragging his feet might be a way to passive-aggressively cause them some difficulty in this.
  12. I think from the Jets' perspective, it's been a HUUUUUGE problem as they've now seen a couple of the only viable 'backup plans' come off the board today while they wait. I suppose from a Packer perspective the draft comp could effect what they do in free agency from a cap perspective as well....
  13. Wingo does seem to have a line to Rodgers as he's reported a couple of times over the past couple of years and been accurate. I wonder if the disparity is that Rodgers finally gave the go-ahead today, and, as you note, they're now finalizing comp.
  14. Alright then. Hoping for more official news soon.
  15. Yeah, the Jets are hypothetically looking at rolling with Wilson, taking the 5th-best QB option at 13, or acquiring Rodgers. Somehow, this drama has actually put them in a worse position than Green Bay.
  16. Nice to see Rodgers living up to his promise not to hold the team hostage with his decision....
  17. Bears did what many teams should do when drafting that high. Smart trade to recover some of the capital they’ve lost by being stupid the past five years.
  18. He should probably take another darkness retreat or two to think on it. I'm in on this deal as well. If they settle for just the 2nd this year I'd like a player back. I like Jermaine Johnson as previously noted, but it does seem like they're souring/impatient on Moore and he'd be a nice get back in return.
  19. I guess I’d in turn note that they were still considered Super Bowl contenders immediately heading into the season, which was six months after the Adams trade.
  20. Clearly correct as it played out, but I think they did what they had to do based on the situation as it stood last year. We forget quickly that the team was a super bowl favorite to start the year last year, so 'running it back' was the logical choice for the FO to make. If we'd have known they'd shockingly miss the playoffs, they absolutely should have torn the bandaid off last year instead.
  21. Also not a bad idea if coupled with the 2nd. This feels like a draft where a lot of random stuff could happen in the early/mid first round and New England seems to be a wildcard at 14. Moving up a couple spots could be the difference in having one of the top WRs available or not.
  22. This feels on-point to me. I'd love (pun intended) the 2nd and a young first-contract player (ala Jermaine Johnson) but we'll see. The Wilson deal at least set some precedent for that possibility.
  23. I'd think the Packers would probably start the conversation asking for both, but I could absolutely see it ending up as a 2nd & 3rd this year and a conditional first next year based on the Jets' success or Rodgers returning.
  24. Yes, the cap is not an imminent concern for Green Bay before the start of the league year. What they intend do after that is what they'd need to clear cap for.
