  1. Beef definitely. A life without steak is not one worth living.
  2. I don't think the Nats fans will see this too often. Someone needs to get on base for Johnny to hit into a double play.
  3. I'd be thrilled if the Cubs could get Roberts. A second baseman is probably the last thing they need and giving up Pie and Gallagher for him would be great.
  4. I think its very likely that Blaylock will be a Brewer. Melvin is looking for a third basemen and a lefthanded bat...Blaylock is both. He's also a Ranger who was drafted by Melvin.
  5. Uecker is going to be So disappointed.
  6. I'd rather have just kept Estrada, rather than add Kendall and Mota. If anything this trade gives me a reason to break out an old Offspring CD.
  7. Even without Sheets we'd have a decent rotation. Gallardo was sort of our "ace" already down the stretch last year. Gallardo, Villanueva, Suppan, and Parra would be a solid top four, and even with their struggles Capuano, Bush, or even Vargas would be better than most teams fifth starter.
  8. I would have found it hard to turn down the Francoeur and Soriano offer for Sheets, but I'm really liking this trade as long as the prospect isn't Gallardo. With Sheets and Hall's contracts off the books we'd have have quite a bit of money to spend on the pen. I can handle losing two of my favorite players in Sheets and Hall if we can get this kind of return plus some cash to spend.
  9. Derrick Turnbow has the most appearances for a Brewers reliever with 77; he's tied for 17th in the league. Brian Shouse is next, tied for 30th. Carlos Villanueva has the most pitches as a reliever for the Brewers with 1382; 7th in the league. Turnbow is next, tied for 35th.
  10. Couple of Thoughts: One of his main criticisms was that Turnbow, Wise, Villanueva, and Shouse were all overworked. Maybe he wanted to see more of Spurling, Aquino, etc...that would have gone over well. Also, he criticizes Yost for not sticking with Hall, and then goes on to criticize him for sticking with Capuano. Both have had success in the past. He blasts Yost for benching Hall because Hall was "the squad's most popular player". Should Capuano have been moved to the pen earlier because he wasn't as popular? Whatever, John.
  11. Great episode. Much better than the first one. Creed was hilarious, and my gut hurt from laughing when Michael drove into the lake.
  12. Bell is the only Padres reliever that has put up better numbers than Hoffman this season (Thatcher doesn't really count since he was there for only 2 months). Hoffman may not have the best stuff in the Padres pen, but the production is still there. Most teams would be happy to be handcuffed with Hoffman as their closer.
  13. LDS Boston over LA (5) Cleveland over NY (4) Arizona over Chicago (4) Philadelphia over Colorado (5) LCS Boston over Cleveland (6) Arizona over Philadelphia (7) WS Boston over Arizona (5)
  14. Karen >>> Pam Pam is nicer, and she does look pretty good with her hair down, but Karen is more attractive.
  15. Thatcher only has about 20 major league innings. It's too soon to make any assumptions about his ability to get righties out. In almost every case, bringing in a lefty to pitch to righties and walk the only lefty he faces is asking for trouble. If this were a Padres board the IGT would have been filled with "Blacked" posts and other criticisms of Bud Black.
  16. Bullpen CL - Francisco Cordero (We'll grossly overpay for him, but our pen looks horrible without him) SU - CJ Wilson (Acquried from Texas for Dave Bush, Tony Gwynn Jr., and Adam Heether) SU - Seth McClung MR - Derrick Turnbow MR - Matt Wise MR/LR - Manny Parra LOOGY - Brian Shouse Rotation Ben Sheets Yovani Gallardo Carlos Villanueva Jeff Suppan Chris Capuano
  17. What the heck was that? Lane is out by a mile and dives into Fielder at first.
  18. Now isn't that ironic. Gwynn puts a halt on the Padres celebration.
  19. I really hope it doesn't come down to counting on a starter in the set up role. Bush or Parra should be able to handle pitching in relief for a little while because they've both done it before, but the frequent work could become a problem as the season progresses as we saw with Villanueva this year.
  20. We've got a chance for our first winning season in years and a chance to pull within one game of the Cubs. This is Yo's biggest start of his career, and I fully expect him to rise to the occasion.
  21. I think it would be safe to say the opposite. Ned has been in baseball for years and I think he knows a lot more about baseball than most fans. A majority of BF.netters might not agree with saving your closer on the road, but a majority of managers follow that rule. Just because the majority is in agreement doesn't mean they "get it" more than the minority.
  22. I'd love it if Castro ran out from the bullpen to argue a call. That would be great.
  23. When did Cubs fans and the national media guys suddenly become competent?
  24. I didn't watch the game, but from reading the IGT I wonder if the umps have some money on the Cubs making the playoffs. Sickening.
  25. I'll second the post of the year comment. I'm a Yost supporter, but I'll admit Yost may have cost us a couple of wins...all managers make bad moves that might cost their team wins. If someone can show me a manager that hasn't made a bad move, I'll give them a cookie or something.
