  1. I had Illumination a few times. It's a pretty solid Double IPA, a bit on the bitter end with out enough citrus notes imo. But I'm a big hop head. Furthermore: Oscura - Tastes like a stout poured through foldgers. I can't explain how terrible it is, unless you love Foldgers Immegang: Zuur - Weird. Blend of a sour and lambic. For Belgium sour fans. Samuel Smith: Imperial Stout. A bit astringent, could use some aging, but far better imperial stouts out there. Left Hand Brewing: Chainsaw. It's pretty bitter, just ok.. disappointing over all. 3 Floyds: Apocalypse Cow - Traditional Engligh Pale Ale. Pretty tasty. Goverhopke: Extra. Hints of tangy, for a Belgium fan. (Not I) Lindemanns: Faro - It tastes like drinking rock candy. Weird mouth feel. To sweet.
  2. Twin Cities? Do you have Surly available around you? And more importantly, would you be willing to ship me some if I paypal you? I know Furious is their flagship beer, but I adore their Bender. I find the Jolly Pumpkin beer always too sour and sweet for my taste. But Founders... thats' good beer.
  3. No way Melvin DFAs Suppan. He's going down with the ship. Zaun to 60 day.
  4. DFH 90 minute is by far their best offering of that line. 60 isn't hoppy enough, 120 is way to astringent and earthy. While 90 has great hop notes, but a little lingerly astringent. I drank a can (one in a can, one in a glass) of Oscar Blues Gubna, it reminds me a ton of DFH90. Both don't hold a candle up to Hopslam though, love the citrus notes of hopslam minus all the stringent characters that most super hoppy beers have. Moon Man reminds me of a hoppy spotted cow, while it's my favorite of the new glarus lines, I don't like most of their offerings. I'll be trying Oscar Blues Gordon (Hoppy Red) some time this week.
  5. ERA is a poor metric to evaluate a pitching staff. It takes into account things like defense, park conditions, etc...it's more of a team stat then an individual stat. I'd suggest basing the comparisons via xFIP. Try to isolate the pitcher and not the team. (Poor defense will inflate the ERA. Good defense will deflate the ERA.)
  6. No kidding. This is the last year Liz and I are probably going full season for a few years, and we have to suffer through this.
  7. I said this over on BCB this morning. Everyone stop wishing people are going to retire. They are not. They have a guaranteed contract of millions of dollars, that kind of money easily out weighs any shame players get for being washed up. The front office has to force the changes, every player wants to play, every player thinks they are better then they actually are. Hoff isn't going to retire this year or next. He needs to not retire to collect another $500,000 from our organization. He'll simply wait a year. No more talk of players retiring, this is a business, and they are here to make as much money as they can.
  8. I'll agree with that. It was written in 2004, and since then his speaking engagements have gotten a lot better. Curious if he'd rewrite parts of the book since he's since received a phd in neuroscience. Dawkins is a much better writter, but next I think I'll try to read some Daniel Dennete.
  9. I'm so sorry. It's always tough to lose an animal, but you did the right thing by ending his suffering. It's a tough choice.
  10. Isn't that what Parra is for right now? He's not been used as a Loogy, he hasn't been used in high leverage situations (Only once did he appear so far in a game with the run difference under 4). Seems like we are going to have a redundant long relief pitcher who can only go 4ip max.
  11. I guess the question is, if both Narvdog and Suppan are replacement level, wouldn't calling up some SP from AAA give us the same result? Protecting Suppan is fairly silly, he's below replacement level so calling up someone like Lofgren could yield the same results in the event of injury.
  12. The End of Faith - Sam Harris. Starts out strong, but fades. Fixates on over generalizations in attempting to make points that could be explained better.
  13. That's simply silly. MAs involvement is an easy excuse to ignore Melvins complete failure with Suppan. It allows us to ignore the failures of Melvin and only focus on the positives.
  14. Why so much hate for Suppan? He is, never was, or ever will be an awesome pitcher. He is old, he is fading and was when we signed him. If my boss offered to pay me a crap ton of money to do my job, I sure as heck would sign the dotted line. So while Suppan does indeed suck at baseball, it's not his fault he's on the team. And it's not his fault that he is allowed to pitch every 5 games. Shouldn't our anger at this situation be at the people that subject us to such vile and hateful things such as going to a Brewers game when Suppan starts.
  15. Lakefront Brewery tour. Best... Tour... Ever... You can't come to the city that beer built and not go on a brewery tour. And you can stumble (Longish walk) back to your hotel after Lakefront blows your mind with beer. I'd take a shuttle to miller park from one of the bars. Perhaps Mos Irish Pub off of Wisconsin downtown. (But to do it right, you should tailgate.)
  16. I think the fact that you have to go on a diet correlates to your level of love for the golden arches.
  17. Sorry that was a typo. It was Taylor not Bando.
  18. Wasn't the farm system on the mend by the time Melvin took over? Jack Z was hired by Bando (I know we all like to think it was Melvin but it wasn't)in 1999. To me, that's when the Brewers started their great turn around when they refocused on the farm system and tried to build from the ground up. Once those kids starting making the pro club we saw the numbers turn. Our starting line up only has 2, or 1/4, players that were not farm club players. So lets not just say that the club is magically better because Melvin is at the helm, what we need to do is isolate *his* free agent and trade transactions to get an idea how much he helped, or if he just lucked out and got a bunch of good players via the farm club.
  19. Bob could come pee in all my ice cube trays, run over my cat and I'd still love the man.
  20. By Demons Be Driven - Pantera.
  21. Randy Wolfs warm up music is "Bottom" by Tool. And his at bat music is Pantera... and I can't remember the specific track off of Vulgar Display of Power.
  22. His fastball rates are up so far (Sample size warning*), which automagically means he's throwing his best pitch (change) less. I'm concerned about him though, he didn't pitch well in spring, and hasn't pitched very well early. The Friday blown save was a good pitch, just the batter made a great swing. We do have Hawkins if he goes all Gagne/Turnbow on us, but I'm not nearly as confident in him this year so far, as I was last year.
  23. They had an opposite handed reliever up in the pen. I think it came down to who do you expect to have the highest percentage change vs. the opposite handed pitcher.
