  1. bargh. Oh, well, I guess you can't realistically expect much out of the Gnats unless Lincecum is on the hill.
  2. WOW. Did branyan ever make that look casual. Nice throw!
  3. I'm sure Torres just bounced those last 2 in there to set up the DP. *cough, cough*
  4. Torres is going to have to blow about 10 in a row before I start longing for Gagne
  5. Ajay... what are you doing to me here. Take it back.
  6. Mets coughed it up to STL... cubs are going to win barring a meltdown... Come on, Torres, slam this door.
  7. cameron is looking very un-cameron-like tonight. Me rikey.
  8. oh no, not Mota. We need 3 this inning, minimum.
  9. The "clown" part was supposed to be tongue-in-cheek, but he was getting knocked around pretty good there.
  10. My goodness, this Brian Wilson clown who is closing for SF is terrible
  11. oh no... no, no no no no... Cubs are within 1
  12. bargh.... that looked like a DP ball off the bat. oh well, at least we got one.
  13. Me in April: "I don't get why the Mets fans ran Mota out of town on a rail..." Me in June: "oh."
  14. Guh. Guess Ned will leave Suppan in until it's 7-7. He's dumber than a bag of hammers.
  15. Nice description, this is pretty accurate... though I think Girardi is a mediocre manager who screwed the Rockies over by his pitching staff usage. I agree, and I actually meant to type Joe Torre (although I know he has his anti-fans as well). I don't know how that came out Joe Girardi.
  16. My goodness, this bullpen is jaw-droppingly awful. The nice part about that 6-game losing streak on the road is that I very seldom had to watch a brewer pitcher try to pitch the 9th inning.
  17. I don't get why the Ned Yost defenders are so adamant about not throwing him under the bus. "It's not his fault that the hitters aren't hitting or that the pitchers can't throw strikes." Yeah, fine, maybe that's true, but what does he do to help his team overcome those things? Nothing. Ever. Ned is a run-of-the-mill manager, no more, no less. He's the exact type of guy who you fire to shake things up when a talented team is leaking oil at an alarming rate. It's not like he's Joe Girardi or Bobby Cox or even Tony LaRussa. He's not spinning straw into gold, winning with a team nobody thought would be any good. He's just another faceless, anonymous manager. The perfect guy to fire in an effort to light a fire under a moribund, underachieving team. "You think firing Ned will magically cause the Brewers to start winning, you idiot?" I dunno...maybe. Maybe not. So what? What are we out at that point if we fire Ned and nothing changes? We're out a mediocre manager. Whoopty doo. Even his staunchest defender would have a hard time saying with a straight face that he's more than that. You go outside, shake the manager tree, and another Ned Yost falls out. They are a dime a dozen. Fire him. This team is nowhere near where anyone thought they would be.
  18. Rickie is just so frustrating. The annual progression of prevailing opinions on Weeks can be roughly summarized as: 2005 - "He's going to be a GOD! Seriously, he has Hall-of-Fame potential." 2006 - "he'll be good, just you watch..." 2007 - "Well, he's finding ways to get on base." and here we are in 2008 at "Leave Rickie alone, forget his crappy batting average and below average OBP and sketchy defense, those aren't the only ways to measure a player, you know." Sorry, I was hoping for more. I think a lot of people were. I really, really hope I'm 180 degrees out of phase about Rickie, but so far... blech.
  19. His OBP is .326, and that's with 4 HBP's that I'm not so sure you can chalk up to skill. That's nothing to write home about. I was hoping we could expect Rickie to crack the top 100 in the National League in terms of OBP, especially if he's going to be batting leadoff. Although I guess you have a door-slammer of a point with Gwynn, I don't believe he'd be any better, and who else would bat leadoff. But that doesn't mean I have to be satisfied with Rickie's anemic performance. *sigh*.
  20. I'm pretty sure I didn't say DFA him or option him to Nashville. I simply said "something needs to be done". Perhaps the age-old panacea, move him down in the lineup for a bit. (Wow, and I thought that was a pretty innocuous comment considering, after all, this is the vent thread)
  21. I really think a lot of the problem was that he was just terrible at dealing with the media and made himself look bad. Last year after his meltdown he made a comment to the Journal (I forget the reporter) along the lines that he didn't like getting booed and he would like to be traded. After stinking out loud and costing the Brewers several games in a row there at one point, I think a lot of fans expected him to be a little more humble than that. Then, more of the same this year. He stinks out loud - again - and then makes a bunch of off-putting comments that he doesn't like being relegated to mop-up duty. Well, Derrick, that's kind of what happens when your ERA starts approaching your jersey number. I don't want to put words in other people's mouths, but I kept getting the feeling that Turnbow felt he was "being dealt a bad hand" somehow, and that none of his troubles were self-inflicted. Did he owe the fans humility? No, he doesn't owe anyone anything. But I think by the same token we fans don't owe him anything either. He's a big boy and is paid well, and in my opinion did nothing from 2006 to the present to endear himself to fans. I too wish him well, but he will not be missed.
  22. I know the Brewers have bigger fish to fry on the heels of the bad news about Yo, but something has got to be done about Weeks. I'm about at the end of my rope with Rickie and I hope Ned/Melvin are starting to feel the same way. Yeah he walks a decent amount and he may somehow have a "knack" for getting beaned, but my god man, one of these days you're going to have to get on base (or got forbid drive in a runner) by applying bat to ball.
  23. They've really done it to themselves with the whole Dave Bush situation now. I'm pretty sure he can't come back up to the big club for another 7 days or so. I'm afraid that means they've got to keep Turnbow around taking up space for that length of time? They sure as hell can't put him in a game again. I guess he'll just be a chair-moistener until Bush can get called back up.
  24. That was the worst game I ever saw. A singularly perfect failure. I can't imagine it ever being topped - but I'm sure they will find a way to surprise me before the season's over. Just please don't let it be tomorrow.
