Mothership - if you could time the market perfectly or even fairly well, you would/could come out way ahead, but statistical data shows that very few people do this well and usually achieve a return inferior to an account that was well-diversified and rebalanced over the long haul. Now is absolutely not the time to get out of the market. I am currently putting as much money as I can into the market. Am I buying at the low point? Probably not, but I know that I am buying at over a 25% discount from its height in Oct 2007. My money is buying more shares right now than it was a while back and when the share price rebounds, I will in effeccct have more money as a result. If you haven't cashed in the share, it still has value. People 30-40 years from retirement should not be reserved in putting there money in the market. This recent decline will just appear as a small blip on the radar over time. It is hard to untie your emotions from your 401k/investments, but getting out now would be foolish in the long haul because chances are the rebound will have already happened when your emotions tell you it is safe to get back in. As a result of emotions controlling your investments, you decided to sell low and by high. A classic mistake made by investors.

4 tickets in Terrace 416 Row 14. Same exact seats as my full season. I also shared a quarter season with my brother so we have 2 tickets in the loge diamond box as well. We were in 217 row 2 for the regular season, but we got moved to 213 row 4 I believe. If the games are anything like the last week it should be a riot. I saw every game but Saturday and probably filled my gas tank three times driving from Oshkosh every night. It was so worth it!!!

Song Title of Brewers fan appreciation song?
JenksFan5 replied to JenksFan5's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
That's it. Thanks. Just thought I'd throw it out to the massive brain trust that is the BF.net nation and you didn't let me down again. -
This thread can be moved if it is too off topic, but I was wondering what the title/artist of the song that the Brewers are playing when they are thanking the fans this season and all the "thank you's" are flashing on the scoreboard. I think the title could perhaps be "This Town" or something like that. Any help would be appreciated.

Monday Night BFNet Top Viewing Priority?
JenksFan5 replied to Leinie Lodge's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
I'll watch the first hour of the Packers and then switch to the Crew. I will flip over to the Packer game during commercials, but my primary focus will be on the Brewers. I love the Packers, but I wouldn't care if they moved out of the state if it guaranteed that the Brewers would make the playoffs. Yes, I said it! I would sell the Packers if it meant the Crew finally broke into the postseason! -
I have avoided participating in this thread because I am in the pro-Sheets camp and it seems that no matter how much the topic is discussed there is no swaying anyone's set opinion, but I guess I will finally jump in. It is funny how perception becomes reality and people will jump to the conclusion that "Sheets is not a big-game pitcher" and my favorite "Sheets is not a winner". See the most recent game against Chicago when Sheets faced Zambrano when Big Z dominated and Sheets struggled. Zambrano is a winner. He's a big game pitcher. He is in the top five in wins over the last X number of years. Perception is reality after all. Perception is that Sheets has been struggling since the All-Star break and aces should not do that during a pennant race. Zambrano would rarely pitch badly with an important game on the line right? Now don't misunderstand me. Zambrano is a very good pitcher and definitely ace caliber, but my point is that all aces struggle through stretches from time to time. Zambrano since the break: 9 G 52.0 IP 33 R 32 ER 45 H 22 BB 36 K 1.29 WHIP 6.2 K/9 5.54 ERA but he is 3-2 since the break so it goes unnoticed. Big Z was just one of the names thrown out there as being a winner and true ace so I thought I would throw that little fun fact to highlight the point that all aces struggle in stretches similar to what people were saying with C.C. in the beginning of the season. Sheets is a really underappreciated by many Brewer fans simply because of his overall W-L record. One needs to keep an open mind and not let personal feeling cloud judgement on a pitchers performance.

I am a season ticket holder and sold my tickets. I have 4 seats as part of a full season Terrace treat package and 2 seats for a quarter season in the loge diamond box. I drive from Oshkosh for the games that I go to so it is a pretty expensive trip and I try to recoup a little bit of money by selling tickets. My family splits a lot of the games up, but I probably make it to about 30-40 games a year. The reason I sell my Cubs tickets is because of a lot of reasons already stated in this thread. The games bring out the worst in both fanbases. I can make a little money back and avoid punching someone in the face. I try to sell my tickets to Brewer fans, but can't control that if I list them on Ebay. Fortunately, I sold most of my tickets to Brewer fans this year, but to the people calling season ticket holders out for selling their tickets have no right to do so. You would probably do the same if you had over $4,000 invested in season tickets and were expecting to drop at least that on playoff tickets. My wife and I don't make a ton of money either and sacrifice a lot so we can buy the Brewer tickets because we are diehard fans and enjoy going to the games so much.

The ball traveled 410 feet. It wasn't like it just got over. It was plenty deep into the stands. Braun had absolutely, positively, no doubt that he got plenty to get it out of the park. Unless a gail force wind kicked up, that ball was leaving the yard. In that moment, you can't blame a guy for celebrating even if it is a bit long of a stare. Again, if you have ever hit a homerun, you just know. I've never stared and admired a homerun. That is just not my style. I can't say that I ever hit a homerun with the magnitude of Braun's so in that situation, who knows how I would react. Stop hitting game winning home runs Braun!http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/embarassed.gif
-
I can't say I'm a huge fan of watching it as long as Braun did, but it was an enormous homerun so I can't say I blame him and therefore it didn't bother me. To those saying that he should have been running hard because he might have been thrown out at 2b are nitpicking a little bit. If Braun had a doubt, he would have been running hard. If you have ever hit a homerun, you just know when you got enough. I have never hit a homerun where I questioned whether it had enough. Hard to explain, but you just know. Braun knew. He knew it was huge and got caught up in the emotion a bit and thus watched it a bit longer than he should have. Not a big deal. It is not the same as Little League so that comparison is a bit much, but I realize that these guys are role models to the kids and teaching the basics of sportsmanship and being humble is important at a young age so I can see where you are coming from. However, some of the complaints sound like a dad whose kid can't go yard! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Give him some more BP! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

CC Sabathia--What else can you say
JenksFan5 replied to RickieDROPSbombs's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
There is obviously a risk to signing either Sheets or Sabathia long-term when you look at Sheets' durability amd CC's body type. The Brewers have to concentrate on which one they can sign for less on both length of contract and durability. In my mind, that is Sheets. For the people who say "go with Gallardo and Parra and fill in another front-line starter to replace CC or Sheets", how is this going to be possible? Bonafide aces are hard to come by and guys with the potential to become aces/young aces (e.g. Lincecum, E. Santana) are nearly untouchable according to their respective teams. You can't simply just fill in another front-line starter for less money unless there is one in development in your organization. A Sheetless/CCless rotation next year scares the crap out of me so I am just going to enjoy this year and pray the Brewers can somehow coax one of their aces to stay. -
Full Retro Uni Gets Dork on the Field
JenksFan5 replied to JenksFan5's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
He's my brother so I felt I could get away with it. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif I mean, c'mon. He's 31 and wearing a full uniform including turf shoes. It's bad enough to bring your glove to the game once you are over 12. -
Full Retro Uni Gets Dork on the Field
JenksFan5 replied to JenksFan5's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
Stuff like this just seems to happen to him. He was in St. Louis last year or the year before and he saw a couple of Brewer players (Capuano and Eveland come to mind) at a restaurant and he had dinner with them and then got Eveland to take his ticket stub from Rickie and Prince's first major league home run game and have Rickie and Prince sign it and Eveland gave it to him the next day signed. Oh and the whole Wheel of Fortune thing was incredible as well since he can't spell worth a darn and typically isn't good at those types of games, but he got picked in the auditions even though he really didn't intend on trying out, but his wife wanted to so he ended up doing it as a joke and got picked and then won. Some guys have all the luck. -
Full Retro Uni Gets Dork on the Field
JenksFan5 replied to JenksFan5's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
Yeah it was my brother. He wore the uniform on Saturday and was at the Brewers hotel and the players were getting a pretty good kick out of it and Sheets son came running up to him and he talked to Sheets and Cameron for a while. Then on Sunday, Cameron saw him in the stands and told him to come down to the field. He watched like 45 minutes of BP while chatting it up with the players and played catch with Cameron for a while with Bill Hall's glove. Prince also offered to sign something for him so he got his retro bobble signed by Prince. All-in-all it was a pretty memorable weekend for him. -
http://www.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=767319 I guess I can't really rip on my brother anymore for wearing his Sheets retro uniform to the game. FSN interviewed him during the game yesterday, JSonline writes a blurb and now he is going to be on the 620 morning show either tomorrow or Wednesday. I used to be embarrassed by him when he wore that to the game, but I guess it paid off with a pretty cool fan experience. I still have to give him a hard time though.

I am not going to make excuses for the Brewers poor play, but the Brewers hitters are underachieving (at least slightly) regardless of the lack of track record. The Cubs have clearly been the better team to this point of the season and the Brewers need to right the ship sooner rather than later if they want to even be talked about in the division race. One comment I will make is that the schedule makers did the Brewers no favors this season. They have played a tough schedule thus far and have three 3-city road trips on the schedule in 2008. The Cubs have 1. The Cubs have more home games vs. the Brewers for the second straight year. The Brewers had to go to Boston for interleague play where as the Cubs have to go to Toronto and TB. The only saving grace is the month of September where the Brewers have 16 home games and the Cubs have a tough schedule including their only 3-city road trip. I know schedules are suppose to even out over time, but the Brewers do have the tougher schedule over the course of 2008.

5/13/08 Dodgers (Penny) at Brewers (Villanueva): 7:05 PM CDT
JenksFan5 replied to wOOgiE22's topic in Archived Game Threads
Why would Yost have talked about it.. to tip the other team off to look fastball? I am just happy we have 3 wins in a row and Gagne pitched in 2 of them and the starters pitched decent in all 3 and the bats are starting to come around. Long ways to the playoffs but things definitely look better than they did last Thursday.. I would add that if Weeks makes a good throw for a double play it is a lot less stressful. Looks like you read my mind Trowekamp http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif -
5/13/08 Dodgers (Penny) at Brewers (Villanueva): 7:05 PM CDT
JenksFan5 replied to wOOgiE22's topic in Archived Game Threads
Gagne was a botched double play away from ending the inning in about 10 pitches. He battled Jones (who has sucked, but still could tie the game with one swing) and chose to go after a weaker Juan Pierre. Gagne was more on the attack tonight, throwing more fastballs for strikes. He has not been great, but he did the job tonight and the Brewers made it three in a row. Why can't people just be happy with a win? -
It may have only been one game, but today's win hopefully brought people back from the ledge. I for one was not panicking at all. Going .500 over a 6-game span @ NY Mets and @ St. Louis is more than acceptable, especially with two comeback wins on the road while facing some decent staring pitching. 9-6 feels a lot better than 8-7 and the Brewers have not even been playing their best baseball and they have yet to get Gallardo and Cameron in the mix. I would much rather play consistent baseball and get better as the season goes on rather than start hot and fade down the stretch like last year. If the Brewers keep winning at their current pace, they will win 97 games. Nothing wrong with that. I know heightened expectations brings more anticipation and makes a two-game losing streak where the team scores few runs seem like an eternity, but hopefully this win will keep the knee-jerk reactions and comments about Fielder's vegetarian diet to a minimum at least for a couple days! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Go Crew!

Soriano Injured - Due to his own cockiness?
JenksFan5 replied to brwrsfan's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
I was lukewarm on Soriano before this year, but he quickly became one of my most hated players when I attended the Thursday opening series finale in the left field bleachers. He constantly went back and forth with the fans, wiggling fingers to indicate how many outs there were and everyone in the stands would wiggle their fingers back. He spent more time interacting with the crowd than he did paying attention to the game. It drove me nuts and I can't imagine that his concentration was 100% on the game when you are continuously in a nonverbal dialogue with the fans. If I were Piniella, I would sit him down and tell him to pay attention to what is happening on the field. I could only laugh when I saw him severely misplay a ball that Carlos Lee hit down the line and ricocheted off the wall and went right past his glove a couple days later. He is so lackadaisical out there, I could not even watch after a while. The hop thing is just another example of something that is completely unnecessary and doesn't help in any way. It is just another gimmick that he does in the name of being "entertaining". -
Rickie Weeks looks the same to me; like a bust.
JenksFan5 replied to RickieWeeksJr's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
I am with the others that say it is too early to say whether or not Weeks is a bust. His ability to get on-base is extremely valuable to this Brewers team. So far, Rickis has accounted for nearly 20% of the teams runs scored (10 out of 55). When he gets on-base, the offense usually clicks and it is not by accident. He has become a very good base stealer so pitchers worry about him taking a base and has always had the ability to leave the yard with a flick of the wrists. He has shown some weaknesses as well, especially laying off the low and away offspeed pitch and his glove-work at 2nd base, but give the guy this full season and I think this thread might be obsolete. An injured wrist definitely has an effect on OBP. To say otherwise is completely untrue. If you aren't hitting the ball well, pitchers are going to go after you and are not going to nibble and as a result it will be tougher to draw walks. That wrist injury really got Rickie into some bad habits last season and caused him to pull off the ball and change his swing to compensate for the sore wrist. That is why everyone is saying this is a make or break year because he is fully healthy and we will see his true potential hopefully come to fruition. If he has a bad year all season, then we can talk about possible replacements, but my prediction for Weeks line this year is .270/.390/.430 with 20+ bombs and 30 SBs and 120 runs scored. If he does indeed put up those numbers, many teams will gladly take him off our hands. -
Yost on Rome tomorrow (4-8) 1250 AM in Milwaukee, 11-2 CST
JenksFan5 replied to patrickgpe's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
You beat me to it olliegjw. That is exactly how it sounded. He said for those not listening that when Yovanni Gallardo comes back, we will have 3 inexperienced pitchers in the starting rotation. Maybe he didn't mean to say that, but it certainly seems he tipped his hand. -
The Ben Sheets appreciation thread
JenksFan5 replied to ELCABALLO45's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
My favorite Ben Sheets moment came when I interned with the Brewers in the spring of 2004. I was in charge of getting this table ready in the Brewers clubhouse for a pre-game ceremony where Scott Podsednik was going to be getting a bunch of most-outstanding rookie awards from MLB.com, Sporting News and a couple other ones if I remember right. I had to take the trophies out of the boxes and assemble them and arrange them on the table. They were pretty nice trophies and as I finished arranging them, Ben Sheets was unknowingly standing behind me in his underwear with this silly grin on his face. He said something to the effect of, "Man those trophies are frickin' (edited for readability) nice. I gotta get me some like that. Do you think Scotty will notice if I take one?" He then proceeded to take one of the trophies made out of fine crystal and put it in his locker before laughing and bringing it back to me. I told him that hopefully he would have a Cy Young award to put on his mantle soon and all he said was "Damn straight!" and rubbed me on the head. That is a moment I will never forget. -
1. Sheets wins 18-20 games. 2. Kendall hits .300 or better 3. A September call-up hits a walk-off HR in a one game playoff against the Cubs at Miller Park. Brewers win the division as a result, but the epic blast will be replayed as often as Dale Sveum's Easter Sunday shot in 1987. The mighty slugger to hit that epic blast: Russell Branyan.

Did anyone get their 9 pack tickets yet?
JenksFan5 replied to TuesdaysWithRillo's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
My terrace reserved full season finally came today. The books they came in look pretty sweet. Now at least I can rest easy with my tickets under my pillow dreaming of a playoff birth.
