  1. I have to agree with those who feel this is a business/marketing decision more than anything. Ichiro is Seattle, and Ichiro is Japan. He is a perfect fit for that franchise. The city adores him.
  2. I think the key thing to emphasize is that the iPhone is not a phone. It is a handheld computer that calls people. $600 for a small beautiful laptop may not seem as outrageous to many. I will not purchase one because I am uber-frugal, but I love that they exist. As a web developer, this is a huge step up from early cell phone web browsers. Kudos.
  3. I agree, there is a very clear and generally accepted bias for the big 3 cities and Boston. Milwaukee cannot get that same level of respect until they win a championship. Chicago just needs to stay about 500 and make the playoffs once every 20 years or so.
  4. The Kenosha Bucks, I love it. They could sell raffle tickets to pay for Yi's salary.
  5. Ummm, John Elway and Bo Jackson just called from the past.
  6. If the Bucks draft Noah, I will not watch their games next year. That guy just bugs me.
  7. Yeah really, I can't imagine mono would help you pitch.
  8. I want to put up a 'Magic Number' on my whiteboard at work. Any idea what that is right now?
  9. Meh... count me as uninspired. There are 4 impact players in this draft. Oden, Durant, Horford, and Conley. We pick 6th, so we can really only count on other GMs stupidity to come out well in this thing. Otherwise, I fear we'll be drafting Marcus Haislip v2.2.
  10. Put me down for Jeff Green.
  11. There's this note from Cody: ?With my injury, the Brewers said they want to track my progress throughout the summer,? Scarpetta said. ?If everything is well with my hand, they want me to sign. But I?m not going to rule out college.? So, it may be a little while, but he wants to sign.
  12. I'll continue the love parade for Kesslers. Very nice and reasonable. Sounds like the ring I purchased was very similar to qrk10000's.
  13. Can you think of anything worse for the Cubs? I love Griffey as a player but he clearly only has a year or two left. The Cubs are not going to win this year. They need to project the team out 2-4 years and try to build some from within. They are just simply not good enough to spend all their money on a few 'final' peices.
  14. Good post Brauns, I tend to agree with you a bit. Most of the music is geared to those 35+, but you get the youngens there to see their friends and do something during the summer.
  15. What's that about the law of diminishing returns...? I would say 3000-4000 should get you a mighty fine ring. Anything bigger and she'll need to start doing some wrist curls. I don't want to get too moralistic on this one, but at some point the ring is just a reminder to the wearer about their commitment. It is not something to measure or prove your love to others. That, and it makes your fingers stink.
  16. The constant regurgitation of race issues is a holdover from the baby boomers. Anyone born after 1975 or so could really give a darn. Give us good players, no matter where they are from or what they look like.
  17. This happens for most shows. The fact is, between the radio stations, national vendors, record companies, and fan clubs many of the tickets are gone before the GA even starts. 77 dollars is a chunk. Does it separate out the fees? One thing with the Alpine is that you are paying for parking right on the ticket.
  18. Man, that team is just a disgrace. They have the talent to be a 90-win team, but the attitude of a 60-win team. Seriously, is there a single player on the Cubs that you'd want on the Brewers right now? Maybe Soriano? And no, I would not want Zambrano on my team.
  19. 1. Hart 2. Hardy 3. Braun 4. Fielder 5. Hall 6. Weeks 7. Jenkins 8. Estrada I really organize them mostly by OPS. But I think Weeks ahead of Jenks and Estrada could provide more off-inning runs.
  20. I've owned a Wii for a couple months. It's got tons of potential, but the game developers need to catch up -- especially when they realize the older demographic buying the games. A true baseball sim on the Wii (next year) could be simply amazing. That said, it's still worth the money now simply for Wii Sports and party games.
  21. itrackr.com Use it.
  22. Better solo album: Chris Cornell or Billy Corgan? I gotta go with Cornell on this one, even if it was strangely sappy.
  23. I think I was anti-nervous. I do remember being rather satisfied that the boredom of high school would be ending and I'd be sent off the the wonderous plaza of beautiful smart women that wanted to drink and be merry. Enjoy -- and identify those people you may want to know in 5 years, because you may not get the chance to really see them again. You'll need to make more of an effort to keep a large circle of friends -- time tends to shrink those slowly.
  24. I didn't like Anchorman at all during the first two viewings. But now, I find it totally hilarious. "I killed a man with a Trident..." But, in a way, I think that movie doesn't count. It is trying to be 'bad' -- comically so. I think the true category should be movies that take themselves seriously and are so bad they are good.
  25. Hey, I'm a huge Pearl Jam fan, but Soundgarden was probably more influential in that scene that Pearl Jam. To me, Soundgarden typifies the grunge scene more than either of the first two bands. Nirvana became huge for touching on the teen angst. Pearl Jam had staying power for branching across different spectrums and the star of Eddie. But, to me, Alice in Chains and Soundgarden are pure Seattle rock. -------------------- Smashing Pumpkins is a much different band to me, and falls more into the alternative rock movement than the grunge movement. The Pumpkins get max credit for changing the sound and being willing to experiment. They also tended to get me POed from time to time. That said, I rank them ahead of Soundgarden in my time spent in my CD player metric.
