  1. Sounds right according to plan. If we are going to pay big money for our hitters and starting pitchers then we will need some young guns in the bullpen.
  2. I'll cut him some slack. 18 is still very young to be making lifetime decisions - even if one choice is obvious.
  3. Yeah, I'd have to think that Chicago has a great shot at this. There are enough facilities to handle all the events. The Chicago Spire and Trump Tower will be finished by then and the Chicago area will spend any money necessary to pull it off. There was talk about mountain biking in the Kettle Morraine South. I'd love to see other events in Wisconsin, but either way I'd be taking my son to the Olympics - which he would remember forever. He is 2 now - so I think 10 would be a great age to take it all in.
  4. Frederickson, to me, looks like a left-handed Turnbow. That said, if he gets some good technique work, he could be lights out. It's a good pick when you have a few early ones to take a boom/bust guy.
  5. I don't buy that you aren't allowed to have 3 catching prospects in your entire system. Don't forget that Lawrie is 18 and will start at the bottom. You can never have enough catching.
  6. Can't wait to see how Lawrie develops behind the plate. He's got a killer attitude and almost limitless potential.
  7. Wooohoo Lawrie! LOVE the pick.
  8. I do have this mental dream of the following lineup in the coming years 1 - Rickie Weeks - 2B 2 - Mat Gamel - 3B 3 - Ryan Braun - LF 4 - Prince Fielder - 1B 5 - Matt LaPorta - RF 6 - Corey Hart - CF 7 - JJ Hardy / Escobar - SS 8 - Angel Salome / LuCroy - C 9 - Pitcher That's just straight cash money offensively.
  9. I know people who work at that plant, that community is going to suffer big time.
  10. As Poblano from www.fivethirtyeight.com. For those of you not familiar with the site, he does in-depth baseball stat like analysis for the presidential election. It's very interesting how he took the PECOTA world over to US Politics. If you are interested in the election, either side - I recommend the site. ( DO NOT REPLY IN THIS THREAD WITH POLITICAL OPINIONS ) I just thought baseball geeks would find this interesting.
  11. Wait, so estrogen = politeness doesn't mean manly = racial joker? I don't so much think the t-shirt is offensive as it is extended evidence of how stupid Cub fans are. I mean, how many stories are there annually on stupid things Cub fans do. They are like the bratty spoiled children of the baseball world.
  12. I think the key thing is that it feels like every time you score in baseball - it matters. In professional basketball it's almost as if the first 3 quarters are just sparring and then you actually play in the 4th. And ultimately it comes down to foul shots, which stinks. Imagine if every NFL playoff game came down to holding penalties... bleh. The whole game should matter, not some sad Kabuki theater with large men clearly traveling into the lane and bumping into each other for technicality points. The NBA stinks.
  13. "Marcus Haislip can jump out of the gym." And he did.
  14. Pretty amazing that we would never had Ryan Braun in the majors had Elmer Dessens not been injured. Wow, those little things... http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  15. I consider Midas the nightmare of all car places. I now go to Tuffy in Waukesha, who is very honest and fair.
  16. It's hard to turn this into anything but good news. The fact that we'll have a happy young superstar for the greater part of a decade is a happy change for this franchise.
  17. (Source: Yost thinks Brewers near breakout) (Source: Yost, Melvin plan to review personnel) I know Gamel is in AA and still a liability defensively, but couldn't he be an occasional platoon with Billy at third? Hall could still come in as a defensive replacement late in games, but it may be a way of increasing production from that spot. Is that too much, too fast for Gamel? (edit: added links; please cite sources --1992)
  18. Sure, but it really has no bearing on his ability to coach in the NBA. You can text all day there. In fact, he could be texting Kobe during the games to see if he'll be willing to come over in a trade.
  19. Original Pancake House - Banana Pancakes.... side of bacon. Heaven
  20. I honestly cannot believe that the Bucks went out and got the best GM candidate and arguably the best coaching candidate. I'm so accustomed to them not doing things correctly.
  21. Personally, I love where the Park is. It makes it very accessible to the entire metro area and continues the tradtitional tailgaiting. The Park East area is well suited for the mega-millions that it's pulling in for luxury condos, hotels, office space, and entertainment. I'm glad it wasn't placed there. The only other area, in my mind, that would've worked out is some of the open industrial district (now dwindling) in the third or fifth wards. Considering how well that area is turning out, it's probably okay that a park wasn't built there.
  22. Right now it's the bridge over the freeway. However, they are also using a federal grant to make many of the turns from Bluemound into left-turn only instead of open medians. That may start this summer as well.
  23. They usually cover a place to stay and some meals while you work. I went on a couple 'destination' builds in college. One time we stayed at a beach house in North Carolina. It was a terrific spring break trip. There are plenty of local builds as well though. If you're open to it, they have some foreign country builds.
  24. If you just want to work with at-risk youth I'd recommend either Big Brothers or the YMCA Mentoring program. I've been working with the YMCA program for 5 years now and found it very rewarding. Also, probably the most enjoyment I've received from volunteer work is Habitat for Humanity. It's a real joy to help someone build their own home.
