  1. Hopefully we'll be scoring some runs tonight because Civale looks like he'll be giving up plenty.
  2. I also get a kick out of the "it's such a hard job" excuses that I fortunately don't hear much of anymore. NFL officials have to watch 22 players all at once. So do soccer officials. You watch a ball and a base. Do it better. (And I know I'm oversimplifying a bit, but yes, they suck.)
  3. Are there any MLB umpires that are like, genuinely good at their job? Just one or two?
  4. Pretty sure Hoskins did that, right? They need a solo.
  5. Swinging at a pitch that hits him is about as Jake Bauers as it gets. He's going to accumulate quite the sombrero collection this year.
  6. Yeah that's kind of what I was thinking on the insurance.
  7. Could have been worse. Some additional insurance would be welcome.
  8. Really disagree with Murphy trying to squeeze another inning out of Peralta. He was clearly losing some effectiveness last inning and was already approaching 100 pitches. I get you want to try to save the bullpen as much as you can but you have to start saving your top starters, too. Definitely wasn't worth the 1 out we got out of it.
  9. Just looked it up and you're right, it's 14 and we're at 14. So not even room for Milner or Mears, much less bringing up Misiorowski like we had hoped.
  10. Oh maybe. The rules have changed so much over the last few years and you might be right, I honestly haven't been on top of that one.
  11. I have to give credit to Bauers. It can't be easy to somehow get to over 4 years of MLB experience/service time all the while being a less than replacement level player and still somehow getting more shots and more shots.
  12. I wouldn't call it an implosion. He was ok. A lot of the staff is having a lot of outings like these, not their best stuff, just grinding to limit damage and get through 5 or 6. I wish we had called up another pitcher on September 1st, I don't think we really needed Brewer. I think these guys are starting to wear down and we need to start protecting the arms for October a little more. I think we'll have to take 5 from Freddy today and be happy with it.
  13. Sheesh, this guy is going to end up doubling his season HR total today.
  14. Jackson has really, really turned a corner in plate discipline the last month or so.
  15. Yeah I was referring to the fan dropping it.
  16. I respect the hustle, but Joey that was not a good idea.
  17. That was textbook how to not catch a homerun ball.
  18. We need to show you how to do that, Cardinals. That ain't it.
  19. What was that angle from Frelick? Sure looked like he didn't play/see it that well.
  20. Again, nobody is denying that the Cubs are playing good baseball right now. Nobody said otherwise. It's also like a 2 week stretch of good baseball, of which every time in MLB has good (and bad) 2 week stretches.
  21. Great work, Braves. Thanks for absolutely nothing. Cubs now within just 3 of the Braves. More importantly the Braves did nothing to slow down Philly.
  22. I don't know that I necessarily buy the percentages much, as I don't know if they account for momentum. Going to get tight in the WC race quickly if the Braves continue to poo the bed in every opportunity they get to help us and themselves.
  23. The Cubs are playing really good baseball. But, they are not suddenly some unbeatable juggernaut who are going to play .900 baseball in September, and they are not going to win the division. Could they make the playoffs? Sure, maybe. Will we face them? Maybe. This is going to be our 6th playoff appearance in the last 7 years, yet it always feels like we go into the postseason with a meek, "just happy to be here" mindset. I've concerned with how well we play in October and not who we play. We have been down this road way too often over the last decade to not be acting like we've been here before.
  24. Brewers aren't losing the division. It's not happening. Maybe if they had 6 games left against the Brewers, it'd be on my radar, but they have zero. The kind of catastrophic collapse it would take is not even worth worrying about. There is the growing possibility of facing them in Milwaukee in a 3 game WC series.
  25. Ending up facing the Cubs in a 3 game playoff series would be a crazy turn of events, but it's becoming more of a possibility if Atlanta can't start beating Philly.
