  1. Not lasting long in October if we don't get good Burnes when we're already down Woodruff.
  2. Of course. We can never have nice things.
  3. Remember last year when the Broncos sucked but at least they had a top defense? Yeah, about that....
  4. Should the Bills and Dolphins just be onside kicking after every time they score? Am I even joking?
  5. I don't know who has the tiebreaker but we could possibly be in position to face Arizona instead of Miami as early as tonight.
  6. I totally forgot about Eric Lauer. I'm ok with forgetting about him again.
  7. He's got "gets released and takes a sweetheart deal with the Jets to go play with Aaron in '24" written all over him. And he'll probably end up playing 15 games there, too.
  8. My overanalysis on yesterdays game after reflecting: Have to keep things in perspective a little bit and realize that 2-2 with some ups and down is about where I expected us to be right now. I don't have super high expectations from this season. Jordan looks like he could be the guy but he has a long way to go and they have a long way to go around him. He looks comfortable and decisive with a clean pocket, but when he has to improvise, it usually isn't pretty. On that note, it's clear they again shot their shot on Bahk's knee and are paying dearly for it. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me. Fool me three times...come on now, guys. Move on. It's a sunk cost now for this season, so you just make the best of it and get what you can out of him, but you have to go into this offseason with all intent to cut ties. Tackle will be right up there with safety on the draft priority list. I expect a mid 1st and a couple early to mid 2nd's, so they should be able to address some needs. The running game also isn't where it needs to be for this offense to be successful. It's pretty clear without a healthy Aaron Jones they just don't have any talent in the backfield. I can see the possibility of a 2nd round investment in a RB next spring, provided it isn't another A.J. Dillon. Obviously this horse is dead, but Joe Barry is so bad. You can win with Joe Barry, but it requires a perfectly executed game by a talented defense to do so. Having Jaire out is not ideal, but Barry does nothing schematically to improvise if he's shorthanded to try to put the starting 11 in the best possible position to succeed. This man has SIX ...again, a SIX season sample size of being an unsuccessful defensive coordinator. Beyond Barry, it was a pretty poorly coached game by the entire staff. Coming out completely flat two weeks in a row isn't a good look for MLF and his preparation, and this is not a pattern that just started showing up this year. Bicassia's units failed over and over again, there's no getting around it. Constant flags on special teams. Nixon costing us constant field position with poor kickoff return decisions. Walker not staying disciplined and committing a horrible penalty that iced the game. A near turnover on a botched punt return. The mistakes were numerous. We are not good enough to constantly give away yardage on the simple mental things that we can control. Two winnable games coming up against the Raiders and Broncos, so it's not unrealistic to think they could come out of them 4-2, but there's so much to clean up. I'd like to think they come off of the mini-bye against the Raiders well-prepared and executing well, but historical precedent with this staff tells me that that isn't necessarily going to be the case.
  9. My hunch, as someone who has never played, is that it is something that is very easy to see and recognize from the outside looking in, or with the benefit of hindsight, but as a player in the moment, with the adrenaline going and the game moving fast, it likely becomes very easy to not be thinking about the score, the situation, etc, and just want to make a play. Not that I am excusing Walker entirely, as this is not his first offense of making a bonehead move in the moment. But this is exactly one of the main things you have a coaching staff for -- to recognize the score, the moment and not only that, but to recognize that it may be one of the things your players are overlooking, remind them that the situation calls for them to back it down a notch, and give the offense the ball back.
  10. So the thing on that play is, it's 4th and 3. It's not like a 4th and 12 where a simple 5 yard penalty just gives them 4th down and closer. So there are a whole host of things that can go wrong on 4th and less than 5 by being aggressive -- jumping offsides, running into the kicker, etc...or what happened. Any of which are going to result in a first down and probably kill the game. As you say, it's really a good outcome on this play to allow the FG, and the odds of something good coming out of being aggressive are too remote and the payoff too low to outweigh the possible risks. Of course, I don't really expect Walker to be thinking all this in the moment, he's not thinking anything other than he wants to go hard and make a play for his team. But I do expect his coaching staff to remind the 11 guys out there of what the situation is and advise them to play it safe and take the 3. And so once again, it's on the coaching staff.
  11. Spoiler alert - he's not.
  12. You think Gute wants this guy employed? C'mon now...I don't think anyone likes being made to look incompetent...Barry makes Gute's defense first drafts look bad.
  13. I get it. But a lot of the 43 carries was game script dependent. Where we knew what was coming. It's still not good enough. I'm not saying it was the worst rush defense performance in history.
  14. I would too at 5 yards a crack.
  15. Another 211 yards allowed on the ground. Just another "much less than the sum of their parts" day at the office for a Joe Barry defense.
  16. Please be assured I'm not saying Walker wasn't good tonight. He was very good. But his bad play was *really* bad. It was essentially the play that killed the comeback momentum.
  17. That's why he needs his coaches to address what's in his mind before he acts on it and remind him that his offense is about to get the ball back with a chance to win it with 2 scores if he doesn't do anything stupid.
  18. That's a good time to shut it off now.
  19. Nixon had his 15 minutes of fame last year. Can Bisaccia now teach him how to just take a knee?
  20. How often do you see a 30 yard FG blocked? They didn't need a game changing play. They needed to get the ball back down 13 with 8 minutes left. You're far more likely to make a game changing play the other way. The Lions got the game changing play. Your actions have to be appropriate for the situation. There's a time and a place for aggression, there's a time and place to be passive. That was not a time to be aggressive. You're down 6 and they're kicking the FG with a minute left, then by all means be aggressive. Not here.
  21. So just don't do anything. You're about to get the ball back down 13 with a chance to win with 2 TD. Don't even put yourself in a position where you'll do anything stupid. Any penalty there, offsides, etc, is a first. Know the damn situation, it's a chip shot, they're making it. Just sit back and let them have it.
  22. Thanks Quay! Way to kill the game.
  23. Any Rodgers but Amari Rodgers.
