  1. Per Kevin Goldstein, Junior Spivey signed with the Tucson Toros of the Golden Baseball League.

  3. Right, Peralta may well end up as a reliever, but a) Augustine didn't even mention his max-effort delivery, and b) after Peralta throws a good changeup is a great time to mention what he would have to do to continue starting, not to continue blathering about him being a setup man.
  4. I read GYPE's post as referring to the heat in Arizona, not Florida. Florida's plenty hot, but Maryvale is like a blast furnace at this point in the year.
  5. Augustine keeps saying that Peralta might make a nice setup guy, which is true enough if he never develops a good changeup, but then, after Peralta DID throw a changeup, and a quality one, Augustine again emphasized the setup role--"maybe even a closer". I don't know if that's an overvaluing of relievers on his part or what, but if Peralta throws three quality pitches, his upside is not a setup guy. That's just useless analysis.
  6. Dayton's pitcher, JC Sulbaran, is another one of Josh Kusnick's representatives.
  7. Not to mention that Gillespie was at the very bottom of the order most of the time.
  8. Let's say there are 100 regular posters on the Minor League forum: 100 / .6 / .15 = 1111 total Brewers fans. Oh noes, it's 2002 again!
  9. As noted in the Major League forum, Cole Gillespie and Roque Mercedes were traded to the Diamondbacks for Felipe Lopez.
  10. Cody Adams was suspended for 50 games after testing positive for amphetamines.
  11. Anundsen made the Hot Sheet again, this week at #11:
  12. Subscriber-only article from BA on the Manatees, particularly Evan Anundsen and Caleb Gindl; Mike Guerrero on Gindl:
  13. Wow, Brendan Katin just crushed a 70 mph curveball from JD Martin for a solo homer in the AAA All-Star Game.
  14. The ancient Sid Hartman from the Star-Tribune:
  15. Not a Hot Sheet, but BA says that Evan Anundsen has been one of the biggest risers in MiLB this year: And, of course, Jeremy Jeffress is on the other side:
  16. From the transaction thread: Apparently he's rehabbing an elbow injury he suffered in spring training, trying to avoid surgery; he won't pitch this year.
  17. Update on Rice Owls pitcher, Mike Ojala Nate Griffin One of the walking wounded, Rice Owl pitcher, Mike Ojala, is rehabbing quite well following Tommy John Surgery to repair the UCL in his right elbow back on June 18th, 2009. "Rehab is going great. Planning on being back in action sometime next spring for either Rice or the (Milwaukee) Brewers. I'm excited to go either way." To recap, Ojala was selected by the Brewers in the 34th round of the Major League Baseball Draft conducted June 9-11, 2009. Even though he had limited outtings on the mound, Ojala would go on to have a stellar 2008-09 season. He went undefeated at 5-0 and maintained a team-leading 2.17 ERA with one save in 66.1 innings of work. Ojala's ERA never rose above 2.20 at any point during the season. He would finish second on the team with 74 strikeouts and third in innings pitched. Ojala held opposing hitters to a .249 batting average while averaging 10.0 strikeouts per 9.0 innings. Ojala is in the process of negotiating terms with the Brewers and hopes to have resolve very soon. "Hopefully, I'll be wrapping things up by the end of July." Meanwhile, Mike Ojala continues to rehab and prepare for next season.
  18. Weird line for Anundsen, with ten flyouts against only three groundouts, but whatever--it worked (six shutout innings with just a hit and two walks against five strikeouts). Great to see a couple XBH from Steffan Wilson and a homer from Logan Schafer, but best of all is Caleb Gindl's 1-2 with three walks. Like Taylor Green last year, he's having a better season at A+ than he did at A-ball, but it's being masked by the pitching-friendly FSL.
  19. AZL Brewers 6, AZL Cubs 2 AZL Brewers box score I love that our division rival has so many affiliates named directly after itself (five if you count both DSL teams), because it's a lot more satisfying to beat the "Cubs" than it is the "Chiefs" or "Smokies". The star of this Cubs-killing was Brandon Sizemore, 3-3 with a homer and a walk; Max Walla (double and walk) and Tyler Roberts (single and HBP) were the only other Brewers to reach more than once. Jose Garcia doubled; power certainly hasn't been a problem for him this year, but patience has: his 1/18 BB/K speaks to the room for growth he has, despite his .317 AVG and .492 SLG. Wayne Dedrick had been hot before going 0-4 with three punchouts for the second straight night, but his numbers have the same theme as Garcia's (1/16 BB/K). Neither comes anywhere close to Demetrius McKelvie, though, when it comes to poor strike zone control: through his first six games, McKelvie has struck out once, twice, twice, twice, thrice, and then twice, though he did finally get his first hit tonight. Last but certainly not least, we should recognize the first great line of Maverick Lasker's short career, as he went six innings, allowing just one run on five hits and no walks while striking out four. It's great seeing six-plus innings and no walks out of the young guys, as it means they're being very economical. AZL Brewers play-by-play Walla got thrown out at home after his double in the first: AZL Brewers Bottom 1st Franklin Romero strikes out swinging. Maxwell Walla doubles (2) on a fly ball to right fielder Jesus Morelli. Allixon Cequea singles on a line drive to center fielder Kevin Soto. Maxwell Walla out at home on the throw, center fielder Kevin Soto to catcher Jose Guevara. Allixon Cequea to 2nd on the throw. Wayne Dedrick strikes out swinging, catcher Jose Guevara to first baseman Richard Jones.
  20. Helena Brewers 7, Casper Ghosts 3 Helena box score Seven runs, but the only player with multiple hits was Cutter Dykstra, 2-4 with a walk; however, Chris Ellington made his one hit count (two-run homer), and Scott Krieger added two walks to go along with his safety. Chad Stang notched his first profession XBH, a double, but struck out in his other three turns. Cameron Garfield went 1-4 with two K's and allowed (along with the pitchers, of course) Casper to go 5-5 in stolen base attempts. Josh Prince got the day off (Mike Brownstein filled in at short). Andre Lamontagne tossed five shutout innings, allowing four hits and no walks while striking out one. Adrian Rosario's excellence from last time out carried over, as he struck out three in three innings, allowing a run on four hits and no walks. Helena play-by-play Edgar Trejo grounded into a double play with two on and nobody out in the 8th, but I bet he looked good doing it.
  21. More comments: John Manuel: "Brett Lawrie's 2B shows off his power-speed combo." Baseball America: "Three position players who stood out for scouts: Brett Lawrie, Jason Heyward, Tyson Gillies" Brent S. Gambill: "Brett Lawrie is a big fan of UFC and excited to talk about it with a mic in front of him."
  22. Well, he was just referred to as "Richie", so... Honestly, is it that hard?
  23. Escobar scores the go-ahead run. MVP?
  24. Escobar with another infield single to tie the game in the World team's last inning.
