  1. "That was...kind of...cool." Steve Wendt on Derrick McPhearson's foul ball in which he fouled it straight down and then hit it again with his backswing as it bounced back up. Box score hasn't caught up yet and I don't know what happened because I wasn't listening, but it's 3-0 Helena and they've gone through the order twice already. Trejo has a double and McPhearson has a single, walk, and stolen base. Very encouraging early work from the super-athlete. EDIT: As I posted, Josh Prince lined an RBI single. Wendt says it's his second hit of the game. I'm not sure if Prince went to second on the play, on which McPhearson was thrown out at third...no he didn't, he just took second on a wild pitch.
  2. Brevard County is surely feeling the loss of Braddock, Wooten, and Axford. Amaury Rivas allowed two runs over six innings and left with a 5-2 lead, but two innings later, the bullpen has turned that into a 7-5 deficit. Jim Henderson's BC debut did not go well.
  3. John Delaney left the game after being hit by a pitch. Alex Periard pitched pretty well in his third rehab start, though he didn't get the grounders we're accustomed to seeing.
  4. Eric Sondheimer of the LA Times notes that Michael Jackson has passed away Cameron Garfield signed for $492,200.
  5. Here's my interview with him.
  6. Davis is still owed almost $5M this year. If it's anything more than a straight purchase, it's a rip-off. Davis's ERA is a mirage.
  7. Gwynn hit one home run in three years at San Diego State.
  8. Baseball America: I don't know about fluidity, but if he has good range and a solid arm, he should be okay.
  9. A poster on BCB who works for Stats is hearing a lot of Doug Davis rumors at the ballpark today:
  10. Well, first of all, McCalvy was the one who reported that Braddock was diagnosed bipolar; Haudricourt just said he had "emotional issues". Second of all, Ash is the one who brought it up; it's not like they went digging through Braddock's garbage. If Ash didn't want it out there, he shouldn't have talked about it. And as for just how it's characterized, bipolar disorder is not "emotional issues" and I prefer the accuracy of McCalvy's report to Tom's blandness, which also smacks faintly of tough-guy macho BS--ooh, "emotional issues", that could be anything! He doesn't have the will to compete! Lacks that killer instinct! Why not be as specific as possible?
  11. Angel Salome made today's Minor League Update from BP:
  12. Josh Prince showed up in today's Minor League Update from BP: Do scouts really debate Prince's ability to stay at short? That's not what you want to hear.
  13. Chris Dominguez signed with the Giants.
  14. Alcides Escobar and Brett Lawrie are the two Brewers prospects playing, both for the World team. Full rosters here. As noted in the coaching thread, Huntsville manager Bob Miscik will be a coach for the U.S. team.
  15. Well, depression is part of it, but that hardly sums it up. Rather than speculating about how it affects him, I'm content to note that he's obviously managing it well so far, so why be pessimistic?
  16. I knew when the box score took an hour to update that Luis Guerrero's outing wasn't going to be a good one. On the plus side, Mike Brownstein is rapidly proving that he's a little too advanced for the AZL.
  17. Taylor Green's Facebook status is "needs a new rib", so I would guess that explains why he's missed some time. He hasn't been hit by a pitch recently, so I'm not sure when or how he got hurt.
  18. Brewers lose, but man, what a game.
  19. It really has. I need to buy a Helena cap, but I don't like the way the barley blends in with the Montana silhouette: http://store.helenabrewers.net/catalog/images/New%20BP.jpg
  20. Yeah, he did. Prince's six steals ties a Pioneer League record, set by Brewers farmhand Mario Mendez for Ogden in 2002, Steve Wendt just reported.
