  1. Rivera almost had another homer, too--Mehring said it would have been out in any other ballpark in the league. Rivera doesn't make a lot of contact, but he sure has some thunder in his lumber when he does, especially given what you might expect from a reedy shortstop with a great glove.
  2. Game was suspended in the bottom of the 2nd with the Indians up 3-1. Maverick Lasker was tagged for three earnies in the 1st. Play-by-play AZL Indians Top of the 1st Juan Herrera singles on a fly ball to left fielder Khris Davis. Mark Brown walks. Juan Herrera to 2nd. Dorssys Paulino triples (2) on a fly ball to right fielder Jose Pena. Juan Herrera scores. Mark Brown scores. Jorge Martinez out on a sacrifice fly to center fielder Dionis Hinojosa. Dorssys Paulino scores. Eric Haase strikes out swinging, catcher Clint Coulter to first baseman Alan Sharkey. Joshua McAdams grounds out, second baseman Jose Sermo to first baseman Alan Sharkey. AZL Brewers Bottom of the 1st Tyrone Taylor reaches on fielding error by right fielder Joshua McAdams. Tyrone Taylor to 2nd. With Clint Coulter batting, passed ball by Eric Haase, Tyrone Taylor to 3rd. Clint Coulter singles on a line drive to center fielder Mark Brown. Tyrone Taylor scores. Khris Davis flies out to left fielder Victor De Jesus. Jose Pena called out on strikes. With Jalen Harris batting, Clint Coulter steals (1) 2nd base. Jalen Harris called out on strikes.
  3. Gian Rizzo hasn't pitched since the 20th. Hope his name pops up today.
  4. Torres has been officially assigned to the DSL team. "Draft-eligible players may not participate in the DSL or VSL, with the exception of two players from Puerto Rico." I didn't remember that part. Have the Brewers ever sent another Puerto Rican to the DSL?
  5. Here's a more straightforward link.
  6. From what I understand, UDFAs are subject to the same rules as picks from rounds 11+.
  7. Drummond narrowly missed being taken in the 34th round for the third time.
  8. Mallex Smith ended up signing with the Padres for $375K, which is almost 150% of his pick's slot value of $255K. His name will make it easy to remember to keep tabs on him.
  9. They absolutely do. The whole idea was to funnel money from these punk kids to the owners and established (unionized) players.
  10. I think it means they're not sure whether he's actually going to be a catcher. Not to further equate him to Lawrie, since I really don't know enough about Coulter to compare their offensive or defensive capabilities, but I think this is why Lawrie pre-emptively asked to move off catcher--so he could move as fast as his bat would carry him (though of course reviews of his D at 2B were hardly consistent either). It's also worth pointing out that Coulter is going to be 19 in less than two months. You'd like to think a 19-year-old first-rounder, especially one not drafted as a Donavan Tate tools goof, could hack it in the Pioneer League.
  11. Red Sox beat writer Alex Speier:
  12. He did leave the door open a crack: http://img407.imageshack.us/img407/984/screenshot20120607at120.png
  13. RHP Brad Schreiber, whom the Brewers drafted out of Kimberly HS in the 42nd round in 2009 but couldn't sign away from Purdue, was taken in the 40th round by the Twins this time around.
  14. Four high school catchers. Fun stuff. I think it would be neat if at some point the Brewers could manage to draft >50% Canadians + Puerto Ricans. Draft-eligible players outside the 50 states are the new market inefficiency. In particular former curlers. Former curlers are the new market inefficiency. Stetsons are cool.
  15. 39th-round OF Derek Jones (from: Canada!) was BA's 248th-ranked prospect, so there might be something interesting there if they get him to sign.
