  1. That's the Jorge we all know and hated.
  2. Yeah Baby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! http://www.solarnavigator.net/films_movies_actors/film_images/Austin_Danger_Powers_Mike_Myers.jpg
  3. B+......... 9 games over after 90 games is about where this team should be after analyzing the roster Melvin supplied Yost and considering our bullpen sucks. Looking for more though in the second half after Melvin added Sabathia to the rotation.
  4. Cardinals v Phillies on Espn tonight.
  5. If Rickie is still carrying a .320 ish OBP and sub .700 OPS at the end of July I'd imagine Durham would have a very big role to play. We could then send Rickie down to AAA to work on his focus and getting better and bring him up in Sept. if Durham fades.
  6. which gm's in the league consistently DO put together a good bullpen, though? it's by far the area of any team which is bound to have the most variance in performance year to year as you're dealing with guys who, even if they're in the upper tier, get 70 innings a year. We've consistently been bad. There has been no progress in this area since DM has been here. I think we currently rank something like 26th in ERA after the 7th inning. I realize part of the problem is because Jack Z hasn't filled our farm with arms the past eight years but bringing in under performing players and hoping for a turn around isn't going to cut it anymore. If that means trading minor league resources for arms so be it.
  7. I haven't been thrilled with our bullpens since Doug has gotten here and that has always been my major contention with Melvin. Nothings changed in that department but I do like that Melvin didn't sell the farm to get Sabathia (put his foot down on Escobar, etc.) and he was wise to move early for him.
  8. Carlos Beltran - Astros
  9. Yeah, I have tickets too. I'm not against financial gain but this profound goodwill gesture deserves full disclosure. I bow out.
  10. Melvin, you suck at bullpen assembly. You don't fill your pen with guys coming off crappy years and expect Maddux and Ned to make them better.
  11. Coors Light > Miller Lite and Bud Light
  12. Yes, the Ray's farm system has been as plentiful as the Brewer's but Friedman has also used some shrewd deals to help advance the big league team. Plus I can't stress enough, Friedman is fielding a more successful squad with half the payroll of Melvin. That's relative to us and the Mets or Red Sox.
  13. I agree 100%. What Melvin has done with the limited resources he has compared to the Cubs and other large market teams is remarkable. I think the team is headed in the right direction with all of the draft picks generated from Linebrink and Cordero leaving (Melvin acquisitions). It doesn't hurt that he has Jack Z as his scouting director, but you can't do much more with the hand that Melvin was dealt than he has so far with the Milwaukee Brewers.I believe there are GMs in MLB who would be doing more. Look what the Rays have done with half the payroll of the Brewers or even the Twins. We were going to increase our win total with or without Melvin because Jack Z was pumping our farm with talent, the question comes down to has Melvin added the right pieces in Free Agency signings and trades the past couple years. Mark A has given him money to use and thus far his acquisitions have been decent to crappy. The jury is still out but his late season move last year failed, hopefully he can get us over the hump this year.
  14. Think Mark A. would throw a butt load of money at Andrew Friedman and get him for GM?
  15. Anyone remember if Branyan was a big time prospect coming up in the Cleveland Indian organization?
  16. I don't think Melvin has done the best job with free agent acquisitions but the market is so out of whack I'm not sure it's all his fault. That said, Melvin's mode of bullpen construction has been his biggest failure, imo. Taking guys coming off down years and giving them to Yost and Maddux as reclamation projects is not going to make us playoff caliber. Relying on Gagne, Mota, Torres(glad it's working out), was a big gamble. Since our farm system hasn't provided the arms I hope in the future Melvin uses some pos. players to acquire better arms this off season. Any thoughts? Why should we be confident Melvin will give us a playoff caliber bullpen? I realize we still have a lot of season left to play so I could be way off base but a guy like Andrew Friedman impressed me with his bullpen construction, was hoping for the same out of Melvin. (sorry to hijack the thread you can move it if you want)
  17. I get the feeling Gagne would rather not close. It's obvious his confidence is down and I just hope he gets it together enough to be a good 6th/7th inning guy.
  18. "When Russell Branyan left the Mary Birch Hospital for Women in San Diego on Friday, he told his wife, Jill, that he was going to try and get a hit for his newborn son, Cash Carter Branyan. Branyan did just that and more, as he blasted a 428-foot home run to right field in an 8-1 victory over the Mariners at Safeco Field." He's a frickin legend.
