  1. I didn't follow the Brewers as a high schooler so I'm a little in the dark on the moves Taylor made in Milwaukee. Obviously the depth of Taylor's resources was entirely different than what Melvin enjoys today. Extremely limited funds and a barren farm system met him on arrival but would he have succeeded with the resources given Melvin? I'm beginning to think he would have. We all know about the Hammond trade but try to look beyond that. He started the turn around of the farm system and hired Jack Zduriencik. In a round about way he could be attributed the Brewer's current success. Looking back at the rosters of his tenure he also knew how to put together a bullpen at least in my admittedly unstatistical analysis of the players. I wonder if the combo of Zburiencik's position player drafting along with Taylor's ability to put together relief pitching would have put us in a better position than what we find ourselves in today.
  2. I wanted to find if Melvin has ever put together a very good top 10 bullpen in his career as GM. I think Melvin had one crucial chore this off season and that was to put together a bullpen that was playoff caliber. I understand his philosophy of retreads and maybe one high paid reliever. I also understand he's been crunched because we haven't had an abundance of high caliber arms come through the farm system. I just wanted to shed some light on his past performance in regards to constructing bullpens. Maybe he's been solid I don't know.
  3. If anyone should be canned for this brutal start it should be Melvin. For putting together such a gawd awful bullpen. Ned is forced to put these clowns out there. If they'd do what they're getting paid for we'd be over .500. Firing Ned is just finding a scapegoat. Melvin's boys, Gagne and co will still be blowing leads ad nauseam.
  4. I'll just say it cause the excuses are old: I don't think Weeks is as good as we thought he was coming out of college. I think the kid has a TON of potential but he is not there physically and most of all mentally for a 162 game season. He will be in time I believe but right now he's not the hitter we want him to be. It's not his wrist, order in the line up, etc. Will he ever live up to that potential in Milwaukee. I fear he will not but I hope he does.
  5. nah.nah.nah.nah.....hey ...hey...hey.........
  6. Chicken or egg. He's now throwing a crushable 93 mph instead of 98 so he's lost confidence in throwing it for a strike, imo.
  7. He doesn't have a nasty pitch anymore. His change up is elite but only when hitters are gearing up for a 98 mph fastball. He doesn't have that anymore. That went down the drain along with the juice. That's twice I believe Melvin has got burned on juicers. First Capellan and now Gagne.
  8. Sorry you got the talk down impression pitchleague. I was trying to talk down on Eric Gagne.
  9. This is sick but man I'd kill for this core bullpen again: 2001: RP-Mike DeJean RP- Chad Fox RP- David Weathers RP-Ray King CL-Curt Leskanic Or this one: 2000: RP- Ray King RP-David Weathers RP-Curt Leskanic CL- Bob Wickman If either of these were our opening day bullpens I'd feel much more comfortable. Dean Taylor put together some decent bullpens.
  10. A little off topic rant/pondering but when is the last time we've had a good closer/reliever prospect come out of our farm system(that we drafted)? I'm talking a very good prospect(Sarfate, etc. were borderline when traded). Our bullpen has been full of retreads for the past decade sans a guy here or there. Gagne and co. is what happens when Melvin/Zduriencik whiff in their pitching picks. If they're just better at prospecting position players that's fine but then they need to move some of the position talent for pitching eventually.
  11. Gagne has proven he blows saves no matter the situation. I refuse to take the easy route and just blame Ned. I'll never fault a manager for using his best pitcher to close out a game. I highly doubt this had anything to do with Gagne throwing 50 pitches over 3 nights. Unfortunately we'll probably see more of this from Gagne.
  12. Yost put in Melvin's 10 million dollar man who proceeds to give up back to back taters. It's all ned.
  13. Count another loss for Melvin. Great pick up Doug.
  14. I'd much rather have Ramirez in the 5 hole than Hall.
  15. Good game on the whole. You'll always know you're still alive when a Brewer's closer comes in this year. Wish they had the gun going to see what Gagne's velocity is. Hopefully his post HGH stuff is still elite.
  16. He was clutch.
  17. Didn't catch him. How so?
  18. We all better get used to his prima donna act.
  19. It's posts like these that make me think a lot of posters on this site are wildly biased and aren't fair in their attacks on Yost. Melvin's bank breaker f-ed this game up.
  20. When Melvin breaks the bank......he sure knows the gems to spend it on. Gagne can't get worse at least.
  21. big time. I was surprised for some reason. Not a huge fan of Selig as he seems to go off on power trips and his grandiose style makes me think he believes he's more important than he is. To be fair though some CEO's pull in 9 figure pension plans(although some of those fellas were c.o.r.r.u.p.t.) 22. It's gotta be the wrist.
  23. Prince's head has inflated.(maybe rightfully so) I think we'll see a few outbursts this year from him in some form or fashion. He's becoming my least favorite Brewer although everytime a player hits a no doubter I tend to overlook their temperament.
