  1. The women's game is played differently than the men's. They play wider and a much more cross-oriented game then the men do. In my opinion this is mostly due to the sheer size and ability difference in goalkeepers. When you're average male keeper is ~6'4", and can dominate the small-box, and not be worried about getting beat over the top, it makes it much more difficult to have clean crosses that can actually be volleyed or turned into shots on goal. Shorter female goalkeepers have to play a little more conservatively and closer to their line (in general).
  2. This is the same thing anyone who doesn't follow baseball says about baseball. Until you learn the intricacies of the sport, it is pretty darn boring. You also watched a game that was over 15 minutes in. (Like watching a 10-0 game after the 2nd inning)
  3. Middleton was really, really good after Knight got traded last year. Yes, it's only 30 games, but still. To put his deal in perspective: In 2 years, it will be the equivalent of an 8M/year deal in the current salary cap. It's a steal.
  4. At about 2:30: "May take a computer or an abacus to figure out the fines going into this one" Oh, 1990 computer reference!
  5. I'm sure they'll interview a minority candidate, but if it's Jeter I'll lose all respect for Barry. Jeter has no business even stepping into the Kohl Center with how horribly he's done at UWM -- including being banned from the post season for failing academically (kind of a big deal at Wisconsin). I hope they think outside the box, but we shall see.
  6. During at least 5 innings today, the Twins hitter did not follow this rule: Not a single strike was called. Great job, MLB. Great job.
  7. At the game. Every Twins batter has gotten into the box after the clock has expired. What's the point?
  8. Marshall has actually been rehabbing at the Bucks facilities. He's still a FA, though. Sounded like the team wanted to bring him back once he got healthy.
  9. he is a free agent after this next season i do not get the trade Awful trade, but if it keeps them from throwing the max at Brooke Lopez, I'm fine with it. We gave up assets to give Toronto a salary dump. Also, Marshall won't be ready for the start of the season, he may miss the whole thing. Normal recovery for an ACL injury is 12-14 months. Jabari is a freak of nature.
  10. https://www.facebook.com/BrewCrewBallSBN/videos/702918788090/ Can't find both highlights on MLB.com, just Fielder's shot. (Go figure). http://m.mlb.com/video/v20071977/minmil-prince-hits-his-first-career-home-run/?game_pk=23734
  11. If he didn't bet on his team every single game, then that is no different than betting against them in the games he didn't bet on them. If you're managing and setting up your team to win the 25 games you bet on, instead of trying to manage and win the 90 games you need to make the playoffs....
  12. Last hockey player without a helmet Last guy to wear 42 in MLB (Mariano Rivera) Last guys to throw lefty and play each IF position (2B, SS, 3B)
  13. He's coming up! He's coming up! http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/mlb-big-league-stew/athletics-call-up-switch-pitcher-pat-venditte-from-triple-a-151913411.html http://pixel.nymag.com/imgs/daily/intelligencer/2015/06/05/05-pat-venditte.w529.h352.2x.jpg
  14. You'll remember every time it hurts. It actually has a positive effect as the #8 hitter comes up the second most with 2 outs and no one on over the course of a season (the #3 hitter being the most). The benefit isn't huge, but it's 5 or so runs over a full season.
  15. It was 7-2 in the 6th inning today (Friday 5/30), if I could've gotten in to witness the Hologram Bud Experience today, I absolutely would've.
  16. I'd get in touch with fatcow and tell them you did not want to be charged for another year (how did they charge you anyway?) They must have information on hand to verify you are the owner and be able to reset access, etc on their end.
  17. Mat Gamel. I thought he was gonna rake. For no real reason, I loved Zach Jackson. His odd delivery always made me think he could put it together.
  18. Where it was positioned...non throwing throwing wrist/forearm (easily accessible by the pitching hand) and only about 2'' x 1'' spread, there is no doubt it was intentional. No way that he was using it for any other reason than an advantage while griping and delivering the baseball. It wasn't there because it was sheltering that small section of arm from the sun/wind. Whether he uses it during warmups and truly forgot to wipe it off, I'm doubtful. These are professional athletes. I'm an amatuer golfer, but I don't forget to take a penalty stroke when I hit a ball in the water....you think he "forgot" to clean an illegal substance off his arm before going in the game? If the substance was part of his routine in the bullpen, did it suddenly stop becoming part of his routine once warming up the mound? No way. It's rosin. The same thing that you can get from the bag behind the mound. When you're warming up in the bullpen it makes perfect sense (when how quickly you can warm up is an issue) to dab a bit on your arm so you don't have to walk over, grab the bag, shake it on your hand between pitches. Just a quick touch and go to the next pitch.
  19. The origins of tailgating (especially in Milwaukee) would make an amazing 30 for 30, I think.
  20. This. So much this. It's gotta be tough for a guy who does things one way for years to suddenly have to be doing solo broadcasts. There's a reason no one does that anymore.
  21. Here's the basics: Lets say that Parker finishes his 4th year with the Bucks, and is a restricted free agent. Here are his options: 1) Sign a 5 year deal (or any length deal up to 5 years) with the Bucks. 2) Sign an offer sheet of up to 4 years with any other team. He can only sign ONE offer sheet. This is a contract with that team. The Bucks then have the option to match that offer sheet exactly, and retain Parker's rights. (This is what recently happened with Jeff Teague & Atlanta (ATL matched the offer sheet), when the Bucks tried to sign him). 3) Play out his 5th season on the Qualifying Offer (much less money compared to a MAX deal) and then become an unrestricted free agent. There hasn't ever been a guy who was in line for a significant raise who took the QO, except maybe Ben Gordon, 7 years ago.
  22. I'd love to see something on the life of Al McGuire. He was mostly before my time, and the stories I've heard are pretty amazing. They did one on how Marquette got it's unique uniform look (Danny Pudi put it together) http://espn.go.com/30for30/film?page=untucked Also one on Robert Indiana's MECCA floor: http://espn.go.com/30for30/film?page=mecca
  23. I'm not really concerned about that. He's got 24 HR to left from 2011-present, so it's not new. He only had 4 to left in 2011 MVP year. Just wanted to show 3 pictures: 2011: http://www.brooksbaseball.net/plot_h_profile.php?s_type=2&gFilt=&pFilt=FA%7CSI%7CFC%7CCU%7CSL%7CCS%7CKN%7CCH%7CFS%7CSB&time=month&player=460075&startDate=01/01/2011&endDate=01/01/2012&minmax=ci&var=iso&balls=-1&strikes=-1&b_hand=-1 Last season: http://www.brooksbaseball.net/plot_h_profile.php?s_type=2&gFilt=&pFilt=FA%7CSI%7CFC%7CCU%7CSL%7CCS%7CKN%7CCH%7CFS%7CSB&time=month&player=460075&startDate=01/01/2014&endDate=01/01/2015&minmax=ci&var=iso&balls=-1&strikes=-1&b_hand=-1 This season: http://www.brooksbaseball.net/plot_h_profile.php?s_type=2&gFilt=&pFilt=FA%7CSI%7CFC%7CCU%7CSL%7CCS%7CKN%7CCH%7CFS%7CSB&time=month&player=460075&startDate=01/01/2015&endDate=01/01/2016&minmax=ci&var=iso&balls=-1&strikes=-1&b_hand=-1 Last year he completely lost the ability to hit the inside pitch for power. It looks like it's coming back this season.
  24. The Marlins are spending something like 14M on their manager/GM this year... in paying their old GM, their current (now manager) GM, Ozzie and their now-fired manager. Crazy.
