  1. I like Mark Kotsay too. That's his third big hit in the bottom 9th this year. I can't see Boggs or Green or any other rookie having that track record. Yeah, he's going to fall short in a big sample size, but when used properly as a role player he has been an important member of this team. Also...7 game lead, is this really happening?
  2. From the perspective of someone who does not have season tickets, I would pay about $500 for standing room only for the World Series. Would just want to get in the door, do not care how. So maybe if it comes down to it, sell one game of your World Series tickets to someone like me and it pays for the other 3 games. But if it really comes down to it, I'll probably try and fly in for one of the later games of the NLCS since it will be cheaper. But that is looking way, way ahead at this point. There's no guarantee that they get past the NLDS, many very, very talented teams have met their end less than a week into October.
  3. Very nice play by Prince. Unbelievable how everyone seems to be at the top of their game on both sides of the ball recently.
  4. September 10, 2008. They were a maximum of 24 games over .500 in 2008, 80-56 on August 30. Looking back farther, the 1992 team peaked at 24 games over .500, 92-68. To get any better than that, you have to go back to 1982, 31 games over .500 at 94-63.
  5. I think 10-15 years from now, I will look back at this streak and remember that it happened right after Rickie Weeks got injured. At the time of the injury, most of us were just hoping that the Brewers could keep pace with the Cardinals and be within striking distance when he came back in September. Instead, the pitching has been completely dominant. In the last 28 days, we are 19-5 with an amazingly low 2.45 team ERA, over a 3:1 K/BB ratio, and a WHIP barely over one. The offense has struggled a bit, but the pitching has more than made up for it. Run differential is +51 in that span.
  6. The way this season is going, Lily will face one over the minimum and lose 1-0.
  7. I would say "wrong" or "terrible" are better words for it.
  8. If the Pirates have a problem with it, they need to figure out how to start beating the Brewers. They have four more chances next week at their place.
  9. These past few weeks have been awesome. I just hope they can keep it going and not run out of momentum in September.
  10. I think his foot was on home plate when he picked up the ball ;-)
  11. I believe I read once that team defense as a whole has been steadily improving. I think now the MLB average team fielding percentage is better than the all-time team record from a few decades ago. No stats to back it up though and we all know how hard it is to quantify defense.
  12. So if 12-9 is correct, that is a .571 winning percentage, with .575 for the year as a whole. Small sample, but no evidence that it makes a difference. Now, would it be nicer to give the guys a day off one at a time? Probably. But they still need the day off eventually. So you either reduce your chance of winning for 3-4 straight games or you reduce it all at once and hope that you find a way to win the game anyway. Maybe you bench them on the road since the paying fans deserve to see the best players? But I have no idea what the players are capable of, so I really do not feel like I am in the position to argue when to bench them. I do know that RR's philosophy is that everyone on his bench is going to get starts. So the reserves are going to make their way into the lineup eventually, whether we like it or not.
  13. While I agree that the Sunday lineups are odd, history shows that the Brewers have won almost every game this year with the Sunday lineup. They have been remarkably efficient at finishing off sweeps at home. I doubt there is any impact on the clubhouse, perhaps it is beneficial since everyone gets a chance to contribute.
  14. Ok it makes more sense now to keep McGehee out of a potential double play. Very surprising to see Hurdle pull Morton now.
  15. At this point, there is no reason to bring up Green or Gamel, they will be here in a few weeks. I personally have no idea if either would be an upgrade. I have never seen Gamel play in the minors, only in Milwaukee, and he was a quite unimpressive 3 for 26 when he was up here this year, with no place to put him on defense. Green has no major league experience at all. I'm not sure if there is any precedent for throwing a rookie into the middle of a late season pennant race--I would imagine it would be good to get him a few at-bats, but the idea that Green could outproduce anyone on the current roster is pure speculation.
  16. Maybe we need to delete that thread about umpire luck in the ML forum?
  17. I know the Win Probability chart will not agree, but I put the Brewers at about a 75% chance of winning at this point.
  18. They need to average 38,280 for the last 23 home games to reach 3,000,000. The average for the first 58 home games is 36,544. I think they are a lock for 3 million at this point, they will probably end up around 3,050,000. At least 12-15 of the remaining games are going to be sellouts, with crowds over 41,500 and sometimes closer to the 43-44,000 range. That means the rest of the games (such as this week's Dodgers series) needs to be averaging at least 34,000 or so. I think that happens easily, even if Monday night's game and 1-2 others are under 30,000.
  19. Maybe the logo was from 1975?
  20. With the Zambrano contract off the books, the Cubs become the front runner to get Pujols or Fielder. I have no comments about the rationality of signing Prince/Albert or if they would even sign with the Cubs, but they will have money to spend and more contracts ending soon. It also appears the Cubs faithful are reaching their breaking point and they need to sell tickets next year or face the attendance decline that has been avoided to this point. So I definitely hope he changes his mind, but I think he's probably done pitching for the Cubs.
