  1. Also, now that Weeks is back, the Phillies have to be careful walking Prince with 2 outs. Edit: indeed, they now pitch to him. Yesterday they would have walked him here.
  2. I'm not upset with Morgan bunting, he was going for a base hit.
  3. So, I guess we can then conclude that the Brewers were not the second best team in the NL. But does it really matter? Home field advantage doesn't mean much in the playoffs. It's a short series and you just have to hope you are clicking when October 1st comes along. Looking back at the playoff history shows this even more--the best team in the NL rarely wins the pennant. Only in 3 out of the last 15 years did the team with the best record in the NL win the pennant. So based purely on recent history, there is an 80% chance that a team other than the Phillies is going to represent the NL in the World Series. Yes, the Phillies are the best team by far, but they were last year also and they lost to a team that didn't clinch until game #162. The hot team usually pulls it out, which is the Diamondbacks, or the Cardinals if they can sneak in. But with all those easy games coming up, the Brewers could easily be on a nice hot streak going into October--and the quality of opponents doesn't mean as much as the confidence that the players and fans will have. Two weeks ago when all the "best record in the NL" and World Series talk was going on, the talk on the quality of the opponents was subdued. So lets not give up on winning the pennant yet.
  4. I'm sick of all these doomsday predictions. If you guys are right, then you get to tell me that you saw the collapse coming. If you are wrong, then I still had to read all these negative posts for 3/4 of this season.
  5. The answer is yes. In fact, some of those players produced more negative WAR than Betancourt and McGehee combined. Edit: I should add that those are not World Series teams. So if you are looking for a "serious" World Series contender, you have a point. Without Rickie coming back I would be seriously concerned also, but hopefully we will stop seeing so much Betancourt.
  6. Starting tomorrow, I expect we will see: Hart RF Hairston SS/Morgan CF Braun LF Fielder 1B Weeks 2B McGehee/Green 3B Gomez CF/Hairston SS Lucroy I can live with that.
  7. Just bad luck, hit those right at the outfielders.
  8. Yikes, what hideous uniforms. I thought they were wearing gold like last time, not mustard yellow. Edit, it just looked that way in the sun, now I like them.
  9. I'm guessing he became a Brewers fan about 3 weeks ago?
  10. Very astute observation there, nobody besides the ump and BA noticed.
  11. It's unbelievable that he's on a major league roster.
  12. I would almost rather see the Phillies in the NLDS. Better chance to upset them in a best of five.
  13. Unbelievable. Yuni couldn't have messed that up more if he tried.
  14. I would rather slump now than in 3 weeks. But this is starting to get frustrating.
  15. I know this game had some significance for the Brewers, but with the Packers playing I really didn't care. If the Brewers were within 3-4 games of the Cardinals it would have been different. Tomorrow night is a big game, don't want to fall behind 2-0 in this series.
  16. Ultimately this was between two guys with a history of altercations and I see no reason to point any fingers. It takes two to tango. Carpenter should keep his mouth shut and Morgan should let it go.
  17. Nice job swearing right into the mic, McGehee.
  18. BA gets an "A" for effort. At least he is trying to use some advanced statistics.
  19. I would be worried if the Brewers clinched early and their opponent didn't. But all 4 NL teams already have it wrapped up at this juncture, so that will not be an issue. The Brewers/D'Backs have the only race of interest--it is important--but not enough to really be dramatic or prevent the Brewers from emptying the bench more after they clinch next week/weekend.
  20. The Brewers' coolstandings.com playoff odds once again have reached a season high, 99.7%. Another Cardinals sweep this week would be inconsequential, while a Brewers sweep would officially wrap up the division.
  21. I think you are in good shape considering you just started training less than a month ago. One issue might be that your training plan is a little over-ambitious, going from about 7 miles/week to 25 miles/week in barely over a month is a big jump. You can do it, of course, but not without some growing pains. From my experience, I would say that in a long run of 10+ miles it usually takes me 2-3 miles to get fully loosened out and I do not reach peak speed until the second half of the run. So starting out slow is normal. One common solution is to start your workout by slowly jogging 1-2 miles and then stop and do your stretching. That might help a bit, but since you are going so quickly from recreational running to a 1/2 marathon, you probably are just going to have to suck it up on days that you do feel 100%. You will see gradual, steady improvement with time. Best of luck with the training! Edit: Another thought: it is essential for recovery that you eat/drink something within 15 minutes of finishing your run in order to aid in recovery. Ideally something high in carbs like gatorade, fruit, or a granola bar, or all of the above.
  22. He's the Green Machine, thanks for the nickname, Bill.
  23. I don't think the sweep suits doomed the 2001 Brewers, that team had no pitching and it was a miracle they even made it to June with a winning record.
