  1. Rock is audibly ticked about Braun's error. I like it.
  2. Yep I chose NLDS Game 3. Gave my OSU ticket away for face value to a friend. Made it to my parents house in Greenfield just in time to see them lose the game on TV. Didn't care one bit because I was still pumped about the baseball game. Then, they had to drive me back to Madison. When we got to Madison there was traffic everywhere. They had a lane closed on I-94 that night for some stupid reason. It took them about 2 1/2 hours to get back to Milwaukee. I have vowed to fly back to Wisconsin this year from Miami if the Brewers make it past the NLDS. Will only get to go back once, so will have to decide when to go. Would also consider driving to Atlanta for the NLCS if they make it.
  3. All the pressure is on the Cardinals. The Brewers took care of business at home last week. The Brewers have the 3 game lead. The Brewers are coming in winners of 11 out of 12. If the Cardinals take anything less than 2/3, they are stuck 4 or even 6 games back with the easy schedule continuing for the Brewers. Same game plan as last week, avoid distractions, have the starters go deep in the game, and finish them off with the bullpen. And try not to get hit by stuff falling off of Busch Stadium.
  4. There he goes again with another RBI single. Now hitting .269.
  5. Just looking at the stats, Betancourt should have been replaced. But the Brewers have been great at negating his shortcomings. First, they started the crazy infield shifts to make up for his bad range. Now, Sveum has balanced his swing. Too bad you can't teach plate discipline. Yuni also deserves credit for his attitude. He is always smiling out there and appear to be having a good time. Now that we have insurance, it will be easy to bench him if he regresses in September when Weeks comes back. But for now, you throw out the 6 year sample and ride the hot streak.
  6. It was good timing that the Cards faced the Astros when they still hadn't sold off and given up on the season. I'm sure it made a difference. Lawrie just went deep for career HR #1. Nice power stroke to right-center field.
  7. Our Cool Standings playoff odds have topped 60% for the first time this year. Baseball Prospectus has been running at 75% or so. Still lots of time for those to go up or down, especially with the Cardinals continuing to win games. Both have the Brewers winning 89 games, but Cool Standings uses Pythagorean record which gives the Cardinals a boost. Another nice thing is that the Brewers are now only 1 game behind Atlanta, so if the Cardinals get ridiculously hot the Wild Card remains a fallback.
  8. I would feel bad for the Astros, but I feel bad for myself as a Brewers fan and we need to make at least the NLCS this year.
  9. Nice to get a 325 foot home run on our side for a change.
  10. I have seen that called a strike and a ball. It depends on the umpire. In my scenario, MLB would redefine the check swing as the bat crossing home plate, which would be done for the purpose of making the game as objective as possible.
  11. Not sure if I can trust Wikipedia, but:
  12. I see what you mean now. I thought it was based on whether the bat crossed home plate. I don't understand how it can be judged on intent--if it's a check swing, you intend to swing and then you change your mind and stop.
  13. The umpire can press a little button when the pitcher starts his throwing motion to activate the sensor. It will also be used for the scoreboard ball/strike tracker because if the batter swings at a ball, the computer will know to call it a swinging strike.
  14. Baseball should be the easiest sport (besides Tennis) to eliminate the human element completely. Football, basektball, and hockey all have penalties, fouls, etc. which are often subjective. Baseball has almost none of that. The only exceptions are balks and check swings. Ball vs. Strike? The Foxtrax in the corner of my screen already answers that. Put it on the scoreboard. Safe vs. out? The only problem is lack of camera angles. They can add more if they start replay. There will never be a single call wrongly overturned--there will only be ones that literally will be a tie--and then you go with the call on the field like the NFL does. Fair vs. Foul is the same way, and even that can probably be automated like Tennis. I even think check swings could be automated, you just need a little laser/sensor in front of home plate or one of those tiny cameras looking straight up. They do not need to fire the umpires, they will be responsible for keeping the game moving and dusting off home plate and the little sensor.
  15. Betancourt now with positive WAR this year. He also is still below his 2010 numbers, so there is reason to think he may further improve.
  16. The suddenly hot Cubs are destroying the Reds again today. It might be time to write off Cincinnati.
  17. Congrats Craig. We all know you deserve to be immortalized for your 2 championships and your NLCS MVP, not some stupid hitless record.
  18. Well, that sucks. I apologize on behalf of South Florida for the pathetic state of the Marlins.
  19. Stupid MLB.tv blackout rules, I want to watch the Marlins game, not this boring Brewers game.
  20. Casey McGehee's luck has finally turned. That was strike 3, easily.
  21. The camera work tonight is awful, they keep cutting to the wrong shot.
  22. "He'll have to face the Astros' best hitter, Jason Bourgeois." Poor Astros fans.
