  1. So, the road Brewers can't pitch and can't play defense. They need to shake the road complex and not take it seriously. The media's obsession with it doesn't help.
  2. Positives: 13/14 overall 10/10 on stealing 2nd base 3/4 on stealing 3rd base (probably due to Prince Fielder shift) 10 bases taken (on passed balls, sac flies, etc). (Ricky Henderson had 30-40/year in his prime) Took the extra base (2 bases on a single, 3 on a double) 52% of the time, better than his career average of 49%, not as good as Henderson's prime (60+%) but way better than Ichiro (41% career) and astoundingly better than Prince Fielder (19% this year). Negatives: 3 outs on the basepaths (he only had 2 in all of 2010) 3 pickoffs already this year Overall: 7/10. I actually voted 3/10 on my first instinct but the numbers suggest that he is having a fine year on the basepaths (small sample though!). Those pickoffs really stick out in my mind though. FWIW, Gomez has already made 7 outs on the basepaths this year + 2 pickoffs. He only needs one more to match his 2010 total.
  3. The umpire turned to the left and lifted his arm, but he was pointing toward the batboy asking for more baseballs. The count was correct. Nice job Prince!!!
  4. The Nationals announcers thought that Braun walked on 3 balls. MLB.com says the count was correct. Not sure who was right. Overall the Nationals announcers are excellent based on the few innings I have watched today.
  5. Another really, really nice win. Was thinking for a second it would be easy after Hart's bomb, but things turned quickly. It looked like Narveson kept trying the inside corner and missing. I do not think his stuff was especially bad, he just got too cute and dug himself a mess. Once again, the middle relief limited the damage and kept the Brewers in the game. Mitre and McClendon are very importat to this team's success, and although they have given up a few runs, their generally solid pitching helped the Crew win last Friday and again tonight. Can't say enough good things about some of the role players lately--Lucroy has been excellent and should start to get some dark horse all-star consideration. McGehee vs. 100 mph Hernandez was a favorable matchup and Casey came through with another big 8th inning hit. On the negative side, Axford got into a bit of a mess with 2 outs in the 9th--he's been walking a fine line lately. Watched this one from the RF bleachers. Definitely my favorite place to watch a weeknight game when there is enough room to move around out there. The crowd was not really discouraged by the 6-3 deficit, everyone stuck around and was waiting for the Crew to mount their comeback. I also heard Uecker on the concourse and he shared the same optimism. 2-0 for the year, going to my final home game of the year Friday night, hopefully it will be another win. Big crowds expected this weekend and they should really be into it if the streak is still going.
  6. It's disappointing, but the people who did this were certainly not true Brewers fans. As one of the commenters suggested, a good option for next year would be to hide replicas of the statues or certificates and require people to exchange them at Miller Park for the real thing (with a photo ID and a requirement of one per family). They could also make the clues more difficult. I hope they do it again next year even if it didn't work perfectly the firs ttime.
  7. Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes!!!!! What a win!!!!! Amazing game, amazing finish, of course we stayed until the end, Prince has now hit walkoffs in the last 2 games that I've been to. The last time I saw a walkoff HR in person was Jeromy Burnitz in 1997 and I'm sure this game will be just as vivid as that one in my mind 14 years from now. Lots of people stayed until the end, a few people left in the middle of the 13th and 14th after they fell behind--tough luck, can never count this team out especially with hitters like Braun and Prince. Go Brewers!!!!!!!!!!
  8. First game of the year for me tonight, I'm visiting Milwaukee for a week. I'm looking forward to seeing Greinke and the new scoreboard--feels like Opening Day again :-) Good to see Braun in the lineup tonight and very strange to see Mike Rivera back. Expecting a big night from Gomez, he seems to do well at Miller Park and he just had a few days to clear his mind.
  9. I thought going into the season that the Brewers' interleague schedule was going to doom them. But it suddenly looks much, much better with 6 games against the Twins and the Reds with 6 against Cleveland. Of course things can change between now and then, but the Twins' are already playing for 2012 and the Indians will still be in contention at the very least. It's 12:30 so I'm out of here. Catching a flight to Milwaukee on Friday and will be at the ballpark for my first game of the year on Friday night.
  10. RR was the right choice given the short list of candidates. He's a rookie manager so it will take him some time to get the strategy right--as long as he is willing to learn from his mistakes. It is good that the players like him, which was especially important because of Macha. Edit: Kotsay in CF tonight now looks brilliant!!!
  11. I would have preferred to pinch hit Craig Counsell for Gallardo there. Really just needed to get 1 run in and Yo was swinging away freely.
  12. That Padres reliever in the bullpen looks like Corey Hart's worst nightmare.
  13. Ok you guys win, it was acceptable for Hart to run there. But it gives me much pain to see him get caught with Braun at the plate.
  14. Wow, what a bomb by Kotsay! And now they are walking Betancourt. Have we entered some alternate dimension?
  15. In 2010, Corey Hart had 7 stolen bases and was caught 6 times. So 50% isn't that unreasonable, although if you consider the game situation maybe he had a 2/3 chance of stealing the base. But my point is that the Brewers shouldn't be stealing with Braun at the plate. That's a valid criticism.
  16. I would have at least liked to see a hit and run. It hurts to end an inning with Braun at the plate. He might have twice as many HR as singles, but if you only have a 50% chance of stealing the base, it's a wash.
  17. Terrible showing tonight by the Sharks. They're going home down 2-0 and they haven't defended home ice well. Not good.
  18. A CS with 2 outs and Braun showing bunt. That's not going to help Ron's cause tonight...
  19. Braun ran at about 90% on that play--I don't think he was expecting a throw.
  20. On a positive note, the Pirates are up 5-0 on the Reds in the 8th, so the Brewers have a good chance to get back to 4 games under tonight. As for the Kotsay situation, maybe there is something wrong with Gomez.
  21. LaRussa doesn't think much of his father.
  22. It should also be mentioned that the Brewers were 16-26 at this point last year, so they are 4 games better off in the standings as well.
  23. Yeah these west coast games are not fun for those of us in eastern time. It was past midnight in the 6th inning last night.
  24. Cleveland is up 19-1 on KC in the 7th. I guess they are this year's surprise team.
