  1. If Mench serves as motivation for Jenkins, then the Brewers should keep Mench on the roster all year. I don't want Jenkins to get too comfortable. In fact, they should paste a huge photo of Mench in Jenkins' locker just to keep him mad and hungry.
  2. Sheets never does well during spring training. I wouldn't worry about it.
  3. Wow, it's just awesome to hear Uecker's voice again. I had to pause and appreciate the moment when he first said "From beautiful and sunny Maryvale Arizona, Bob Uecker along with Jim Powell bringing you Brewers baseball . . . " The boys are back baby !!!
  4. C'mon, let's save some of these runs for the regular season please. Don't waste them all right now. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  5. Brewers vs. Angels at County Stadium . . I was a kid in school when this game was played, and I have never seen this game in my life. I am really looking forward to this broadcast.
  6. Ken Rosenthal is reporting that the Padres are still interested in Geoff Jenkins. it's a buyer's market for outfielders: The Brewers need to move either Geoff Jenkins or Kevin Mench. The Cubs' Jacque Jones also remains available, along with the Royals' Reggie Sanders, Tigers' Marcus Thames and Orioles' Jay Gibbons. The Padres are interested in Jenkins, but first want to determine the viability of a Terrmel Sledge/Jose Cruz Jr. combination in left. Scott Linebrink-for-Aaron Roward remains another possibility for the Pads; the Phillies then would trade right-hander Jon Lieber for an outfielder in a separate deal. msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/6504428
  7. This came up in the recent Geoff Jenkins thread, but I thought it deserved its own discussion. Steve Stone of WSCR in Chicago proposed that the Cubs should try to trade Jacque Jones to the Brewers in exchange for Geoff Jenkins. Just for the sake of discussion, would you make this trade if you were Doug Melvin? Would you also like to see other players included in a potential deal with the Cubs?
  8. Brian, it's the middle of February and my EZ Board supporter status just expired. Can we get an update on whether we should renew with EZ Board, or will the YUKU thing be ready soon? This thread hasn't been active in a long time, and I am not sure what is the latest news.
  9. I was actually one of those 15 people. It was awesome because tickets were 1 or 2 dollars and you had the whole place to yourself. It was a makeup doubleheader on a Monday afternoon, and it wasn't on the original schedule. Plenty of seats available. Not only was that comeback awesome, but we also won the second game. It's amazing how many scrubs and rejects we had on the team back then. Thank god those days are over. It's worth saying again . . . thank god those days are over.
  10. I seem to recall Ned Yost complaining that Eveland often loses his focus out on the mound. In one interview, Eveland himself admitted that he is better off when the manager gets in his face on a more regular basis. I also remember when Zach Jackson replaced Eveland in the rotation, Daron Sutton really went out of his way to point out how Jackson looked like he belonged in the big leagues compared to guys like Eveland and Hendrickson. Sutton was referring to the overall mound presence and basically implied that Eveland didn't have it.
  11. I just saw the broadcast on DVR, and it was absolutely AMAZING. I have special memories of that day because it was the first time I had ever seen a baseball game outside Milwaukee. My family and I were at Three Rivers Stadium watching the Pirates and Phillies. Some rookie named Bonds was the leadoff hitter for the Pirates. It was also the day after Mike Schmidt's 500th HR (we just missed it by one day) During batting practice in Pittsburgh, we saw This Week in Baseball on the jumbotron and it was all about the Brewers and their hot start. My brother and I were decked out in Brewers clothing and we were hooting and hollering like crazy. Everyone was looking at us and smiling. After the Pirates game ended, we looked at the scoreboard one last time and it said Texas 4, Milwaukee 1, 9th inning. We figured the streak was over and left the ballpark for the one hour drive back to my uncle's house. Around 10:30 at night, we found out through ESPN SportsCenter what had happened back home at County Stadium and we all were yelling and screaming at my uncle's house. It was just a miracle. We were in absolute shock. My uncle was sleeping because he had to go to work the next day and he woke up and ran into the room to see why we were yelling and celebrating. He got so scared by all the noise. But later he understood. Anyway, it was fun to actually see the whole game for the first time. Although I had seen the clips of Deer and Sveum's homerun a million times, it was cool to get into the flow of the game and live and die with the crowd. The atmosphere was just electric and I truly wish I could have been there. Wow, I am still juiced up right now. HAPPY EASTER MILWAUKEE !!!! 12-0 BABY !!!!
  12. A minor league contract huh? I am sure Spivey must be "really devastated". http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  13. CNNSI is reporting that Weaver has been signed by the Mariners for one year at 8.3 million dollars. sportsillustrated.cnn.com...index.html
  14. Is Mark Mulder expected to be ready to pitch when the season begins? Or will he need more time to recover from injury? Does anyone know if Jason Isrinhausen will still be with the team? I know he had some inury issues and was performing poorly last year. The fans were really booing him.
  15. It looks like the Brewers have signed Tydus Meadows out of the Dodgers organization. Is anyone familiar with this guy? dodgers.scout.com/2/613013.html
  16. Considering how well Weaver pitched for the Cardinals last year down the stretch, this could be a huge loss for them. This article also says . . The Cardinals, operating under the premise that they are out of the running for Weaver, will not attempt to acquire another starting pitcher, a major-league source said. I am very surprised by this. They have already lost Suppan too. msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/6408486
  17. Dayn Perry of FoxSports.com seems a little skeptical about Samardzija's true ability. msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/6385890
  18. Awesome catch by Yount !! NO-HITTER BABY !!!! (Too bad Nieves walked a million guys though)
  19. It seems like a good fit considering that the Padres always seem to be offering relievers in all of their trade proposals. Relief pitching is what we need the most right now. Termel Sledge as the left fielder in San Diego? The Padres have got to be kidding.
  20. I would like to sign up as well.
  21. USA Today is reporting that the Yankees and D'Backs have agreed on the players and that a deal is expected this week once the finances have been worked out. www.usatoday.com/sports/b...rade_x.htm On a side note, this could be great for the Brewers because the Yankees are expected to go heavily after Roger Clemens and that might result in him leaving Houston.
  22. Another interesting little blurb on CNNSI . . . Jeff Suppan's agent, Scott Leventhal, may be right that his client is the best of the second tier of pitchers (those not named Zito or Schmidt). The Mets do like Suppan after he shut them down in the NLCS but he is strictly a backup plan to Zito, and San Francisco appears to be taking a similar approach. Suppan also appears to be strongly considering Milwaukee and Pittsburgh, which may or may not indicate that New York isn't his speed. But Leventhal insisted, "He and his wife Dana love the city. The thought of New York has definitely piqued his interest."
  23. I really think this two game series against the Reds was the turning point of the franchise. After a very long time, Brewers fans were treated to some magic and things started to go better in terms of attendance and optimisim. I know they had a terrible second half that season, but it still felt like a huge turning point.
  24. THE SQUEEZE IS ON . . . BREWERS WIN . . . I mean WON http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
