  1. How is that not a slam? If I heard that I'd wonder what the heck was wrong with my manager and why he had a problem with me. If I had any bosses or co-workers say that about me I'd want them to say it to my face and explain themselves.
  2. What's the team's record in Looper's starts? How many runs do the Brewers score on average in his starts? Unless you think a SP has control over how the offense performs on days that he pitches, team record on days that he starts isn't all that relevant.
  3. If Yo were reaching a breaking point, what would it look like and how soon would we know? Would we notice before he "just didn't look right on the mound"? At what point is it already too late? Plus, we are talking about a guy that pitched the rest of an inning after blowing out his knee then went out and pitched the next inning. Even if he noticed some sort of fatigue or irritation, he'd probably just ignore it initially and possibly do more damage. Yo could probably be at 150 pitchers and he'll tell you he's fine for another inning.
  4. Pretty much. If Yo were to blow out his arm next month I'm sure he'd simply say, "meh, it could have happened anyway.'
  5. I've been making that comparison myself lately. When Melvin left the Rangers, they had by far the worst pitching in baseball. The Rangers had the worst team ERA in 2000 at 5.52 (KC was at 5.48). The next year, his last, their ERA was a ridiculous 5.71, nearly half a run more than the Rockies at 5.29. Right now, the Brewers have a team ERA 4.72 which is only better than the lowly Nats in the NL at 4.97. We are one Yovanni Gallardo injury away from overtaking them. Yo has an ERA of 3.08. The rest of the team has an ERA of 4.99. The next closest starter is Looper at 4.79. With no help from the minors on the way for another few years (provided they don't flame out) and Melvin's track record when it comes to acquiring starting pitching either in the FA market or in trades, I'm not optimistic about what next year will look like. I certainly wouldn't expect Melvin to get anything special back in a JJ trade given JJ's play and his contract situation combined with my faith in Melvin.
  6. He was sitting next to Kendall in the dugout so you still need to give credit for that game to Kendall, IMO.
  7. Bill Hall has no peers when it comes to standing at the plate admiring doubles.
  8. You realize Gamel is one of the elite prospects in baseball, correct? He's a huge part of the Brewers future.
  9. The point is that it was unintentional. Hitting Lee isn't going to keep Prince from taking another unintentional bean ball, just as the warning didn't keep Suppan from unintentionally drilling Fox. I guess the Cubs need to drill us tomorrow since Soup just accidentally drilled Fox with a high fastball.
  10. Protect them from unintentional bean balls? How does that work?
  11. I'm not a big fan of giving free baserunners when the beaning of our guy pretty clearly wasn't intentional.
  12. Texas only wanted Cruz since DM insisted on getting Mench back to replace Lee on the MLB roster. DM countered by saying if we gave up Cruz we'd want Nix back in return.
  13. If he's in the majors that means he got his [language edited by mod] together. Wouldn't that make him an example of someone overcoming a personal problem and succeeding in a very competitive field? (edits: language and nested quote --1992)
  14. If you watch Hall swing in slow motion, he's flinging his hips open way too soon a lot of the time. Just watch some of the pitches he's swinging at and missing. People say he has good opposite field power, but he can't duplicate that swing on a consistent basis. Last night, he tried to take a ball to the opposite field, but he opened up way too quickly and the result was an extremely weak swing. Until he figures out how not to do what he's doing as often as he's doing it, he's going to continue to be abysmal and only get hits when the pitcher makes a mistake and his swing is actually a rare good one. Even when he's swinging at good pitches to hit his timing is usually way off because his swing mechanics are basically broken at this point.
  15. Since the All-Star game last year he's hit .241/.285/.394 in 108 games and 424 ABs.
  16. That's ridiculous. Even if we only look at one aspect -- defense -- he's made massive strides in that department and has put in enough time to be able to play multiple positions.
  17. I think it might be too much to ask of Hall since he hit .174 against righties last year and is hitting .190 this year.
  18. He can adjust himself all he wants against righties from the bench.
  19. Escobar is struggling in AAA. I don't expect to see him any time soon.
  20. Cameron is having a ridiculous year in terms of power. He's on pace for 31 HR in only 124 games. He has the 2nd highest SLG of any CF behind only Josh Hamilton.
  21. One major difference I've noticed over the course of the year is that earlier this year Kendall was asking him to elevate the fastball quite a bit and it really didn't seem like it was something that worked all that well. He'd either miss badly high for a ball or would pitch it too low and have it ripped somewhere. I don't recall every pitch of his recently, but I don't think he's been doing that at all recently. When he's ahead in the count now, he's going with the low change or a fastball low and on the corners. With the way his change moves, he should be able to live consistently low and on the corners as long as he can accurately throw his fastball for strikes.
  22. I'm wondering how many players in history have had 40 2B, 10 3B, and 40 HR in a season. Braun is on pace for that.
  23. Well, I am doubtful he can hit .300 and 40 HR every year. Right now I think he is Jeff Francouer without the OF experience and a little more power. That's a terrible comparison. Braun's career SLG is .157 higher than Francouer. This year, his SLG is .171 higher. The difference is so big they aren't even comparable.
  24. I see a lot of hate for Weaver. Where does that come from? I also don't understand why people think it a given he has nothing left. He's only 31. He's had success as recently as the 2006 post season and he had a very good year in the 2005 regular season. I don't see any reason to not add a guy like him to the mix when ZJ and Narveson are your main options in a pinch. His track record is certainly much better than theirs. Do I expect anything from him? No. But its not like it would shock me to see him have some success either.
