  1. I agree with M Skjellyfetti about Bush, and I understand the point Geno is making. However I'll take the trending upward starting pitcher over the somewhat out-of-nowhere Alexis Rios. He had a some very good stretches last year, and I know he was recovering from his injury, but his OPS was just .865. Highish BABIP despite a fairly consistent LD%. I guess I'm just a little less convinced with Rios than I am with Bush. I just have a hard time finding a weak spot in his game. Maybe that's homerism, I don't know, but I'd also take the starting pitcher over the outfielder almost everytime.
  2. It'd be a salary overload, that's for sure.
  3. I'd rather have Gross in CF than Hart defensively, though both are probably below average. It'll be nice if Hall can transistion smoothly out there and finally provide some solid CF defense for us.
  4. Of course, it all depends on the return.
  5. That TBD part is the catch. Who knows what it would cost in terms of talent or money it would cost to acquire a CFer? No to single you out, but I just want to say that I feel many people think trades and the like are much easier than they actually are. Its easy to outline the types of moves we should make or want to make, but quite difficult to pull them off.
  6. Ennder = sbrylski06 I've agreed 100% with every post you've made over the last two weeks.
  7. if he matches his first half from last year, we could trad ehim for anything we want.. Kind of brings up an interesting point. If Turnbow returns to form next year into July, do we then shop Cordero rather than extending him? How much would you need to see from Turnbow to feel comfortable handing him the closer job back. Personally, I think Cordero is one of the top 5 closers in the league and would like to resign him either way, though I really like Turnbow as well. I'd like to keep both of them; they could become one of the best 8th-9th combos in the game.
  8. I started to come around on Taveras after I viewed his minor league stats. Remember, he skipped AAA. His OBP went up his second year in the bigs despite a drop in BA. I think he will eventually be a .750 OPS leadoff hitter with 40+ SB. He just may break out next year, especially if he plays in Colorado. Whether I want to take the chance on him becoming that player is the question.
  9. Pitching: FIP, xFIP, dERA, K/BB Batting: OPS, GPA, RC/G Fielding: Eyesight. I've never really looked at defensive statistics at all because of their reputation.
  10. In Boston he hit over .300 will decent power. With a .411 BABIP, very high and a large increase from the previous year despite his LD% holding steady at ~20%.
  11. He can't hit a curveball. The people who have fits over the productivity of Mench and Jenkins would pop a blood vessel over Pena in Miller Park. Jenks cant hit a slider. Maybe not, but he led the team in BA. I don't care if you can't hit a fastball, BA is what counts.
  12. One pretty much has to assume one will be gone by opening day, and though this has been brought up in multiple threads, it was more of side conversation. So, who would you rather see traded? I still like Jenkins, he can still hit righties well, but the more I think about this I think he is the one that will go. With the rumors about his attitude not sitting well with the team, and his $7 million dollar salary trumping that of Mench, I think it makes more sense. Also, Mench's bat seems to fit the team needs a little better. Now that Cirillo is gone, we don't really have a true lefty masher. And while Mench has been up and down, we can feel comfortable with turning to Gross if Mench hasn't gotten it going by mid-June provided Gross is hitting similar to how he did last year. The also complement each other well for a potential platoon or a partial platoon, with the latter probably more likely. At this point, I trade Jenkins and see if Mench can finally "break-out". He may yet make the Lee trade look like a good one.
  13. So how well does Game Score correlate to team wins?
  14. Wow, inventor of FIP on our board! Welcome, and thanks for answering our questions.
  15. Maybe both will be on the list. Maybe Sheets will. Maybe Fielder will. I'm just going to hold my breath and hope that the only Brewers on that list are Helms, Ginter, and Gary Glover.
  16. I think you have correctly identified the three that are most likely to go, though it really isn't anything new. I do think we will probably see two of these four... - Turnbow, Miller, Mench, Jenkins - ...go in the next month, or maybe a move during ST (maybe they really like what they see in Closser and then decide to trade Miller). I don't think we will get a great return on any of them, but I don't think they will have to be given away. There has been some genuine interest in them. IMO, the ideal trades with these players would be to get prospects in return for Turnbow and/or Miller, and then trade Mench or Jenkins for a decent reliever that we won't have to wonder if he will return to form. It would clear out two logjams, strengthen the bullpen, and boost the farm.
  17. I know that they are only projections but I put zero stock in them. When I see things like Prince being projected to hit 22 home runs it makes me think that the logic is not credible. That's because these are statistical analysis's done in replacement for scouting. Scouting rules the roost in this area of projections, especially young players. I'm guessing Fielder's HR projection is lower because it is simply comparing what he did last year to what a normal 22 year old 1B does and averaging them. (That was an extreme simplification.) Nowhere does it take into account potential, work ethic, ect. Fielder should be compared to how the other top ranked 1B prospects did in their second season and projecting their improvement onto him, IMO. Note: I may be quite offbase here, as I know little about the Marcel projections and didn't really go into any of the links.
  18. So these projections would penalize things like Estrada playing through injuries in '05, correct? I know they are not perfect, but fun to look at.
  19. EDITED quote: Our second rounder goes to St. Louis from the Suppan signing.
  20. When I first heard about this new steroids list coming out (I'm sure there will be a Major League thread soon), for some reason I just got a horrible feeling that Jenkins is going to be on that list. I'm beginning to agree that we should trade Jenkins and let Mench and Gross battle for or split time in LF.
  21. I still think that we're too quick to give up on Jenkins. I would be very happy to see him in the starting lineup come Opening Day. I agee, and would be happy as well. But one of them has to go. I like Jenkins over Mench as an everyday starter, but Mench sort of fits our team needs better by killing lefties. If Mench gets traded Jenkins will start and Clark will see some time against lefties. Gross would act as the backup at all three positions. If Jenkins gets traded, I think Mench and Gross would split time against RHP, and Mench would start verse LHP. So Mench would get ~2/3rds of the AB's from LF, while Gross takes the other ~1/3. If one is outhitting the other, he will get more playing time. Clark would act as the 5th outfielder. I'm fine with either option, so make the deal that gives us the best return.
  22. Briggs, I see Villanueva coming up at the first injury and getting starts. I think next year Gallardo could be our Wainwright. He could come up in the second half if he is pitching in AAA as well as he did in AA. As the 6th starter, Villanueva will get time.
  23. Gwynn isnt going to play in Milwaukee... I wouldn't be so sure. With the goal of having a leadoff hitter yet unfulfilled and Jenkins, Mench, and Clark off the books next year, there's a chance they would look at Gwynn for CF in '08 and move Hall over to LF. I'd prefer to see the '08 outfield go Gross - Hall - Hart at this point, but I'd say there's a decent chance Gwynn is at least considered for the CF job. One more step in the right direction next year in AAA and I might be okay with seeing him start.
  24. No. I truely believe Ben Sheets is a top 5 pitcher in the bigs when healthy. Even with his spotty PT the last two years, when he was on the mound he has the stats. (Not necessarily the ERA, but that would even out with more innings.) Its a gamble to assume he's coming back healthy though.
  25. I'd love to see a package of any number of the following: Mench, Jenkins, Jackson, Gwynn, Turnbow, Miller, Rivera, Clark for a very good OFer. However, I'll predict Mench or Jenkins goes for either a lefty reliever or an average AA SP prospect. Probably Mench.
