  1. Obviously in response to the Dave Bush 4.00+ thread. I've heard the label of "elitist" placed on this site, and I'm beginning to see why. As a group we could do a much better job of welcoming newer posters. Education of newer posters should be a goal, and rejecting them without trying to show them why they recieve flak here for their ideas or opinions is truly elitist. Obviously having the same discussions over and over again can get very tiring, so it is somewhat understandable the stance many here would take in response to the thread referrenced above, but I don't think it excuses the behavior. I mentioned in that thread of possibly creating something like a statistical tutorial for newer posters to be referenced to. Maybe that's unneccesary, but I do think we can do a much better job with our treatment of newer posters who do not share the same views and attitudes toward baseball as we do. A more diversified group of posters can make for much better discussions anyway, provided it is kept civil.
  2. Rob would be a great addition. If only Chicago sports radio wasn't full of lies and idiots.
  3. I believe he is some were in the middle of these two seasons, IMO he is a solid player no matter what spot he plays. I do not see him however being an all star type player or MVP candidate which some people have posted and they have that right. Hall has already exceeded what I ever thought he would be, so he very well could do that again. I don't know what to think of Hall myself. Part of me wants to think his BB rate will continue to improve a bit and looks at his solid mental approach at the plate last year and expects him to continue to produce and even get better. The other part of me sees some holes in his swing and thinks if his OBP drops even a little he wouldn't be that great. I'm just going with the flow on Hall, I'm not really setting any expectations for him nor making predictions. Whatever happens happens.
  4. The Brewers don't want Branyan back. Take that to the bank. I understand Branyan doesn't exactly fit the mold of batter they are looking for, but it'd be hard for anyone to say he wouldn't upgrade a Graffy/Counsell timeshare, even with his alleged flaws. Whether or not we could get him is definitely questionable, but I covet him, and it would be a mistake for Melvin to turn down Branyan if he didn't have any other options to upgrade a position using our outfield depth, IMO.
  5. I am drooling over Branyan at this point. Would the Padres need Clark? They have Jose Cruz as their 4th outfielder, and it looks to be a competition between young'uns Jack Cust and Paul McAnulty for their 5th outfielder spot. Both are very poor defenders and would be better fits backing up Gonzalez at 1B, but they've put up solid numbers at AAA already. Conclusion: maybe.
  6. At this point I'd rather keep him.
  7. Ford had a couple walks That's what I want to see. If he can carry a high OBP this season, he'll shoot up the prospect boards, IMO.
  8. Darren Ford ran a 6.11 60 time today Incredible! Blazer, isn't that like .3 seconds below a perfect scouts rating?
  9. 1. CF Darren Ford - He'll be an exciting player if he develops well. A 6.11 60? That's off the charts! 2. C Angel Salome - His best trait is his cannon arm. Gunning out a would-be basestealer might be the most exciting event in a game for me; That or a triple. 3. SS Alcides Escobar - I'll be watching him because I want to see why he's considered a solid prospect. He hasn't done anything, besides solid defense. 4. P Mike Jones and P Manny Parra - I lumped them together because they are in similar situations. If one of these guys can put their injuries behind them, we may have a new contendor for a pitching spot in '08. 5. SS Yohannis Perez - How good is he? EDIT: Notice I watch guys up the middle.
  10. ISP definately tells you more about the worth of the batter, yes.
  11. I see the value in XBH%, but ISP makes it sharper But they tell you slightly different things.
  12. Delete it even, just wanted to vent. We are going to need a new venting thread. I say just change the thread title.

  14. So essentially you are saying XBH% is fairly consistent if you have the talent, right?
  15. Bill Hall had an outstanding XBH% last year. How well do players tend to maintain that from year to year? I'd imagine that any given players XBH% would fluctuate a fair amount from year to year, though obviously players carry varying career XBH%. Could this be somewhat of an indicator that Hall may have overachieved slightly last season?
  16. > Cool -- two shortstops! Third base is overrated anyway. Dave Bush is so good against RH batters we don't even need any one on the left side of the diamond. I'd have the left fielder play real shallow and start three 2Bmen...
  17. Welcome! I'm sure you'll be an excellent asset to this forum!
  18. ...and if this "hole" in Sheets game causes him to have a 3.13 ERA over his past three years (500 IP), I think I can live with it.
  19. I never understood the comments about Gallardo not having the stuff of the elite pitching prospects, when Gallardo led the minors in strikeouts...
  20. Craig Counsell can still be had for next-to-nothing. $3 million is about my entire life earnings away from nothing.
  21. I think Todd Walker in return for Jenkins makes a lot more sense especially if they decide that Braun needs more seasoning and Koskie is lost. Walker would be fine too. I still prefer Branyan (but lets not get into it), though with our new anti-K attitude Walker would fit in nice. I'm not sure I like any of these trades straight up though. Jenkins will outproduce any of these guys. I'm sure Melvin would ask for his usual nugget as well though.
  22. Hmm, Jenkins for Branyan?? To bad we are suddenly anti-strikeout.
  23. These figures are actually off, here are the correct stats: Whoops, those were their stats vRHP, which I failed to mention. I posted those because they are platoon players and will/would be platooned.
  24. Jones - $4M, $5M Career .836 OPS 2006 .886 Jenkins - $7M, $9M option Career .892 2006 .871 Straight up, I'd lean towards yes assuming Jones agrees to a platoon and shuts up about it. Save money, get basically the same production, have to option to deal him next offseason. I still think the recent Jenkins thread is a huge overreaction though, and want him to remain with the team.
