  1. I trust Doug Melvin, if a little guy is the best available option, then he is. This is a good point. I'd like to retract "extremely questionable" from my earlier post and replace it with "somewhat dissapointing".
  2. I certainly think he could easily post numbers as good as Davis did in 06. So he could post numbers next year that would still cause the majority of the fans to want to run him out of town? And endaround is right. You can't just remove his stats against the top offensive teams. Anybody would look better if you did that.
  3. Judging from Bush's stats in 2005, he would never have been capable of putting up the strong season he did in 2006. While Bush did take a step foward this year, he actually had some decent numbers the two seasons prior. And even in Lopez's good years when he had ERA's of 3.57 and 3.59, he had high LOB% and low BABIP's. His FIP's were 4.36 and 4.37. With that said, I hope if he were to be brought in he would have to compete with Villanueva, Jackson, and Eveland for that 5th spot. If he loses out, he could be an effective relief pitcher as he holds a 2.95 ERA in 61 IP over his career out of the pen, which is encouraging.
  4. Lopez's FIP (4.73 career) isn't very good either. Last two years it was 4.81 and 4.96. If we didn't have 3 young pitchers who seem to be about ready for a starting spot and a potential stud in Gallardo not far behind, then maybe he could fill out our fifth spot. I vote no.
  5. Batting .283 with 20 homeruns and 100 RBI is nice but not really spectacular. Add in 89 BB and 34 doubles and he has some nice slash stats - .393 / .498 / .891 One concerning thing about him would be that his OPS is following a negative trend - 1.006, .931, 891 the last three years. He turns 31 next year, so his best years are probably behind him. He'd likely be great in a two year deal, but I'm assuming he opted out so he could try and get one last big deal. He'll probably be looking for a 4 or even 5 year contract.
  6. Drew would be another good signing. The FA class is starting to get rather deep. How good is he in CF? I'd love to have him in any OF spot though. He's also likely to be a lot more expensive, so it would definately depend on what his price range is.
  7. I too think it would be a good idea, as long as its not a long term deal. We would have enough depth to cover if he were to get injured as well.
  8. If they go after Dave, I'd assume they want him to platoon with Brady, for the most part. Which would be an extremely questionable move.
  9. At best, I'd consider him a replacement for Brady Clark. But since Clark is likely to still be around next year, count me uninterested. Why would we need another LH outfielder?
  10. Colby, I never saw it confirmed either, but I did some digging: LINK
  11. Websites with white text on a black background.
  12. girls that wear sunglasses that cover up their whole face Seconded.
  13. Fair enough. I tend to think that while comparing the players to other players at that position is important, in the end it just comes down to whoever has the best 8. I do understand where you are coming from though.
  14. RC/G 2004 2005 2006 | AVG ---- ---- ---- | ---- Wells 5.90 5.46 7.55 | 6.30 Crawford 5.77 6.12 6.74 | 6.21 When a player has as high of SB% as Crawford does, that is when SB really start to make a difference. They are actually fairly comparable over the last three years, and all things equal I'll take the younger player who has been steadily improving with a long favorable contract over the year-to-year inconsistent player with only a year left on his deal. All other things aren't equal, though, so while I'd pay more to get Crawford, Wells could end up being the player to target based on the asking prices.
  15. But he doesn't play CF, he doesn't have the power Wells has, and doesn't get on base at a real high clip. I understand your arguements except for the OBP. Over the last three years, Crawford has a rather weak .337 OPB, but Wells only has a .338 himself.
  16. I dare say you could take virtually any player's first 5 seasons and come up with an inconsistent tag by looking at their worst years. First you argued that he wasn't even inconsistent. Then you backed out and said everyone is inconsistent in their first few years. I would be happy to see the Brewers go out and grab Wells. I just think he is a bigger risk than Crawford (though the cost difference of each player may balance that out). You mentioned how nobody is a guarantee, but then you essentially said that if we make the move we will make the playoffs. I see a lot of Geoff Jenkins in Vernon Wells, which concerns me, and should be of more concern to a lot of people here that never liked Jenkins and want to grab Wells.
  17. All the likely names have been tossed around already though. Crawford, Burrell, Wells, Jones. I think Jones will end up staying put, and I wouldn't be overly excited about trading for an inconsistent Wells who likely would leave after next year anyway. Burrell has a no trade clause, though he said he would waive it for SF. That leaves Crawford. If we want to pay Tampa's price, Crawford profiles exactly into what the team is focusing on this offseason: speed and defense. Tampa will probably demand more than it is smart to offer, however. Hopefully we will hear about Melvin at least negotiating with them.
  18. I changed mine to a dark grey - "DarkSlateGrey" Thanks a lot, I love it.
  19. Not saying that they are the ultimate authority, but Baseball America ranked Marte as the 14th best prospect overall last season, and Braun 49th. Braun had a great year however, so his stock has got to be rising. Marte didn't have a great season last year, but I'm not comparing their current worth, rather Braun's worth today to Marte's worth last year. But yeah, their value is probably somewhat similar.
  20. Braun wouldn't net Miggy or Dontrelle. Look at what Andy Marte was traded for last offseason, he might be comparable. Edgar Rentaria and then Coco Crisp.
  21. I don't think it's totally out of the question that we land a free agent, but it has to be in the right circumstances. We probably could of had Washburn last year, though I didn't want him. We have an owner willing to increase payroll now, so it is possible to lure the right guy in for a comparable contract to offers from elsewhere. But yes, very unlikely. There seems to be a general attitude on this board that we need outside help, or at least those people are more vocal about it. I don't necessarily agree with that. People talk about how we need that stud hitter in our lineup and like TooLiveBrew pointed out, that player is Prince. Stick with our youth movement, and aquire role players to fill our the team. Weeks - Fielder - Hall - Hart - Braun could make a deadly middle of the lineup in two or three years. With that said, Mark A seems set on making a bit of a splash with a signing/trade, and Melvin seems to pull off a deal per offseason.
  22. Graffanino isn't a world beater but chances are fairly good he'd outhit Hardy. I object and I move to stike! I think there is a chance Graffy would outhit Hardy, but I think there is a better chance it will be the other way around. Graffy did alright last year, but it was just a .747 OPS. He's also only started 12 games at SS since 2003. Hardy is the better option at SS.
  23. Watch it on Jeter, man. Big Yankee fan here too. We don't allow trolls here. Ban him immediately! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  24. Then add 2 or 3 million to that proposal. I don't think Jenkins will be quite as hard to trade as some think, but I do agree we will be taking on a mil or two.
