  1. olmsted is on the 40-man roster. major league deal. he has three minor league options remaining, as this was the first time he had his contract purchased and added to a 40-man roster.
  2. no problems for me in the virtual waiting room yesterday. got four tickets for opening day.
  3. with gamel out, there's a renewed focus on who will play first. let's not forget that the brewers were looking to gamel to start at first, but also be available as a corner outfielder. most will agree that logan schafer is a lock. who else do you want on the bench with outfield experience?
  4. that's good to know. hopefully the brewers knew that, too. i would've signed gonzalez to a minor league deal with an opt-out clause that if he wasn't added to the 40-man roster by the opening of camp (when another player could be put on the 60-day), gonzalez would get a $5 million buyout and become a free agent. the brewers, of course, would have no intention of paying him $5 million for nothing, so it would've essentially guaranteed that gonzalez got a major league contract for 2013.
  5. good news today on hart. the brewers need to do a hart bobblehead with crutches, and when his head starts to bobble, the crutches fall away to the ground.
  6. i don't understand why the brewers never gave de los santos a major league audition last year after acquiring him. they knew it was his final option year. this move hurts players signed to minor league deals hoping to have their contracts purchased. de los santos wasn't expected to by most to make the club out of spring training, which would've removed him from the 40-man roster.
  7. it'd be great if the pending deal for gonzalez was a minor league deal with a huge buyout if he's not added to the 40-man roster 10 days before the season starts. this would allow the brewers to keep him off the 40-man until injured players could be put on the 60-day disabled list. the huge buyout would assure gonzalez that the brewers plan on having him make the 25-man roster--the brewers wouldn't want to waste millions on a bench player who never plays for them.
  8. assuming that alex gonzalez comes in next week on a major league deal, the bench appears to be forming. maldonado, schafer and gonzalez appear to be locks. gamel moves from the bench to a starting role. green and bianchi might have an in. any player signed to a minor league deal might have an in. there seems to be a lot of focus on how the brewers will back up at first base, and how they'll back up the middle infield. with hart out for two months, and gamel primarily at first, are the brewers too thin in the outfield with just schafer? does gindl make the club as a backup outfielder?
  9. while bianchi is out of options, so is fautino de los santos. one has to question why the brewers didn't give him a look last year during his final option year.
  10. I believe it's 10 days. I don't see them going that route though, because he could recover quicker than expected like last year. Wouldn't want to have him sitting out longer than needed. with hart expected to miss all of april and may as reported, and with the need to have some time on a minor league rehab assignment (to serve as his spring training), an assignment to the 60-day disabled list backdated into spring training could make sense to open up a roster spot. of course, a team can always transfer a player on the 15-day dl to the 60 day . . . but he remains on the 40-man until that time of transfer.
  11. i've lost count. is bobby crosby non-roster invitee #19?
  12. deep down, i think that mat is going to seize an opportunity that's come his way. i know he had the same opportunity last year, but he's going to be healthy and hit lots of doubles off the wall for the crew. i'm talking overbay & a-ram doubles totals.
  13. what's the earliest date in spring training that a player can be backdated to for the disabled list? i'm trying to determine if the brewers could put hart on the 60-day disabled list to open up a 40-man spot.
  14. it'd be easier for us to predict the brewers' bench if we knew if any of the non-roster invitees had opt-out clauses in their minor league contracts. for example, if donnie murphy doesn't have an opt-out clause, he's part of the organization for the entire season. bianchi (he of the 40-man roster but out of minor league options) has to make the team out of spring training, or we risk losing him from the organization entirely.
  15. rob wooten just became the 18th non-roster invitee to 2013 major league camp. with a number of players expected to be absent from camp for the world baseball classic, and with the desperate need for a bullpen overhaul, the higher number makes sense.
  16. bianchi is out of minor league options. if he doesn't break camp with the club, a spot on the 40-man opens up for a minor leaguer like donnie murphy.
  17. leon's been outrighted to the minor leagues. he's still in the organization. he'll be in major league camp in arizona as a non-roster invitee.
  18. bear in mind that the qualifying offer amount is likely to increase every year. don't expect it to be at $13.25 million in the 2013 offseason.
  19. when this move becomes official, the roster will be at 40.
  20. doug melvin revealed to the milwaukee journal sentinel that the brewers' local tv contract in 2013 will be around $21 million . . . an increase from $12 million.
  21. a bleak outlook with little progress on a new ballpark in nashville . . .
  22. with this move, the roster stands at 39.
  23. battery charges dismissed because the victim and the witness are no longer in the united states. if she was indeed assaulted, i hope k-rod never does it again.
  24. mike leake robs banks for them.
