  1. sadly, the brewers didn't get to set a postseason roster in 2012. i wanted to bring up in this thread what the four wild card teams have set for their one game roster: cardinals: 10 pitchers, 15 position players braves: 9 pitchers, 16 position players rangers: 11 pitchers, 14 position players orioles: 11 pitchers, 14 position players
  2. because you're hitting a home run with at least two runners on base. couldn't resist.
  3. 27 needed over the next three games. it could happen.
  4. need to average nine point eight and a third strikeouts per nine innings to break the record. yes, a game 163 against the cardinals would help the brewers' chances as well.
  5. 13 would've been much nicer . . .
  6. assuming only 162 games are played, the brewers need to average exactly 10 strikeouts per game over their final 8 games to break the mlb record. very tough, but if they do it, it's likely because they're winning those 8 games. one or two 11-inning victories wouldn't hurt.
  7. great performance today . . . still need to average 9.5 per game to break the record. need to get axford, k-rod, veras and henderson some innings to make up for the likes of marcum and peralta.
  8. is gonzalez any closer to still returning this year? note that the 40-man roster is now full, so somebody would have to be bumped if he came back before game 162 (or 163).
  9. i knew after i posted this that the brewers had a catcher that they traded to the jays for cash after the marcum/lawrie trade . . . paul phillips, earlier this year.
  10. for those looking for another positive with this trade . . . the "last trade with" section of the brewers' media guide will no longer list shaun marcum for brett lawrie.
  11. barring another move, the 40-man roster is full. he can only help the brewers reach the wild card playoff game and will not be eligible for postseason play. presumably, this move gives the brewers flexibility to use lucroy or maldonado more often as pinch hitters, or to use maldonado at first base.
  12. my finger is sore from using the scroll on my mouse to read that article.
  13. the tweets talked about not having to carry an entire starting rotation for a one game playoff. still waiting for a full explanation from the brewers' media, but one would think that a player like eric farris could be on the wild card playoff roster (instead of a starting pitcher) and be used as a late base stealing threat.
  14. peralta would be eligible to replace an injured player (but whether it's a position player or a pitcher apparently depends on the level of postseason play). any player in the brewers' organization as of 31 august (peralta included) could be eligible for postseason play, provided he's replacing an injured player. presumably, an injured player is defined as being on the disabled list as of 31 august, on the disabled list by the 162nd game of the season, or deemed unavailable due to injury for an entire postseason series (i.e. isn't eligible for the division series, but could be available for the championship series). if aoki went down with an injury, corey patterson could be a replacement in the postseason. let's pray that doesn't happen.
  15. it's a bummer that the nats were swept by the braves. it would have been nice for the nats to have clinched (or nearly clinched) the division by the time the brewers play them.
  16. the brewers will need to average exactly 9 punchouts per game (assuming all remaining 15 are played) to break the major league record. they currently have seven active pitchers who are averaging 9 or more strikeouts per 9 innings (henderson, axford, veras, parra, estrada, fiers and gallardo). mark rogers had been averaging 9.46 per 9 innings, so the brewers' chances of breaking the mlb record were diminished with his shutdown. as stated before, if the brewers are going to break the record, it's likely going to require pitching in the 9th inning on the road. that can only bode well for the optimism thread . . .
  17. from tweets by tom haudricourt and mike vassallo, it appears that roster rules are special for the wild card playoff game. gives each team greater flexibility in setting the roster for that single game. i'm certain that by morning, a clear report will surface on jsonline.com.
  18. interesting read thanks to joe block's tweet. i don't have espn insider, so i don't know if the article elaborates on player eligibility, but it sounds the brewers could opt to carry up to four extra position players for the single wild card game instead of four extra starting pitchers.
  19. there's some insight here: viewtopic.php?f=63&t=28944
  20. any updates on the progress of gonzalez?
  21. happy that the cards & dodgers are going extra innings today. hoping for a looooooong game to wear out both pitching staffs.
  22. great that the franchise record was set at a home game . . . now let's break the major league record!
  23. still off pace to break the major league record, but only 13 knockouts away from setting the franchise record.
