  1. it was right after ryan braun was drafted or signed. ryan braun was in milwaukee and was the bat boy in a night game. he and carlos lee were exchanging playful words and the home plate umpire didn't like that at all . . . bat boys are supposed to be seen, not heard. i only ask because i'd love to know when braun encounters this umpire again and if any verbal exchanges occur between the two of them.
  2. is anyone getting the wtmj feed on gameday audio?
  3. brewers have issued the fewest walks in the league with only 120 over 44 games. their 2.74 walks issued per 9 is second only to san diego's 2.67.
  4. nice to see the pitching staff's remained consistent in not issuing too many free passes. the reds are still best in the league with 2.74 walks issued per 9, but the brewers are right behind them with 2.79. capuano's performance last night was especially encouraging considering his recent walk rate.
  5. they just were swept by the cubs. that's how bad they are.
  6. .229 batting average. .634 ops. 4.66 era (hey . . . the pitching's improved!) 1.48 whip. 4.59 walks issued per 9. .977 fielding percentage (an improvement, but still worst in the league)
  7. .241 batting average. .667 ops. 4.99 era. 1.58 whip. 4.89 walks issued per 9. .972 fielding percentage. they are struggling in all aspects of the game.
  8. a trend noticed in spring training is a trend noticed after three weeks in april. the brewers' 2.75 walks issued per 9 innings ratio is currently second best in the league (reds are tops with 2.27). doug davis is 5.73 per 9. claudio vargas is 1.38 per 9. i'm really glad that trade happened.
  9. i suppose one advantage of counsell getting more starts at third than graffanino is that his name is being published more online and in print. the increased visibility of his correctly spelled name can't hurt. perhaps counsell remembers if it's "slopper" or "slobber" . . .
  10. the nationals finally get their first quality start of 2007 (6-2/3 innings from shawn hill) but still fall 3-1 to the diamondbacks. they are now 1-5 on the season.
  11. ouch ouch. yesterday's fourth starter lasted just 3 -2/3 innings . . . surrendering 6 walks.
  12. tom haudricourt reports that capellan did indeed report to the sounds.
  13. ouch. their bullpen is going to be in big trouble soon . . . if not already. the first three starters have averaged just over 4 innings each.
  14. i was at a metrodome game where he broke up a johan santana no-no and shutout with a homer.
  15. i can't believe the brewers can't get the lead off man on base.
  16. it's about maintaining the integrity of the brewerfan.net website. i thought this site prided itself on being one of the better fan sites for mlb teams. when the majority of its members come across as insightful and intelligent, it can only boost the credibility (and viewership) of this site. the more credible this site, the more we can all benefit (for example, revenue opportunities that may arise that allow for amazing improvements for the brewerfan.net faithful).
  17. but hardly fair to those using "council" and "counsel" as properly intended.
  18. don't you mean richie week's?
  19. nice punishment. at least you understand the differences.
  20. any chance a sticky topic could be placed on the major league page reminding forum members how his name is spelled? i feel that anyone that types his name any other way affects the integrity of brewerfan.net. (of course, posts that use the correct sequence of letters from his name to create beings such as "counsanino" or "graffsell" are appropriately funny. "councanino" and "graffcill" are just tragic.
  21. not much of an improvement, and yesterday's loss can be attributed to the free passes: the brewers this spring are issuing 3.97 walks per 9 innings. only the padres (4.10) and the rangers (4.54) are worse.
  22. making this an out-of-game thread because it seems everyone is in another game right now . . .
  23. the manager's father played in this game?!?!?!?!?!?
  24. it's only spring training, and it's early in spring training, but the cubs are issuing 3.40 walks per 9 innings and the brewers are issuing 4.19 per 9. while these results likely will not project to the major league pitching staffs of both clubs, they can be an early indication of the overall pitching depth of each organization.
