  1. doug melvin stated on brewers.com that between three to seven players will be called up. chances are nashville's playoff roster could consist of a number of newcomers.
  2. carlos pena was a non-roster invitee this season for the devil rays and has become the fifth player in the last 25 years to hit 30-plus home runs after being a non-roster invitee to spring training. he joins: dave kingman (35, oakland, 1984), albert pujols (37, st. louis, 2001), john jaha (35, oakland, 1999) and jose guillen (31, cincinnati and oakland, 2003). with ryan braun currently at 25, he has a shot at this feat.
  3. villanueva was optioned down less than 10 days ago. he can be recalled as he's replacing an injured pitcher. when he was sent to nashville, he burned a minor league option (from 3 to 2). is it true that he will regain that option if he's called back today?
  4. given the new rules regarding player eligibility for the major league rule 5 draft, who are the brewers likely to add to the 40-man roster before the rule 5 draft happens this winter?
  5. they're letting alice cooper run a restaurant right by their ballpark. if alice cooper is gonna have a restaurant anywhere, it's should be right by miller park.
  6. from brewers.com:
  7. they're running air conditioning when the roof is closed. they're building a light rail line with a stop right at the ballpark. they're charging a dollar more for day of game ticket sales.
  8. well . . . it shall remain a club record at seven consecutive games with no triple hit this afternoon by a brewer.
  9. i'm rooting for extra innings in every game. i don't necessarily care about the outcomes . . . i just want a bunch of overworked players.
  10. brewers.com shows seth mcclung on the 40-man roster. when was he added?
  11. this streak is much more exciting than the doubles streak the brewers had early in the season. with joe dillon's pinch hit triple last night, the brewers have tripled in seven consecutive games, a club record, as reported by jsonline. (consolidated tags --1992)
  12. did anyone see the sea gulls sitting on the first base line last night?
  13. unless you're counting his potential for inside the park homers, estrada's lack of speed isn't really going to affect his home run rate. that's what this thread's about.
  14. unless mench goes on a power hitting tear, expect him to finish the season with more walks than homers. he's 12 to 6 right now. estrada is even at 8 and 8.
  15. perhaps everyone here can purchase this item and have it shipped to miller park c/o matt wise.
  16. i like that you used "weather" when discussing a hurricane. i'm of the opinion that he should be called up some time in september . . . if only for emergency use when there's a game on the line. the brewers likely will still be in a pennant race and having more bodies on the bench may give them the competitive edge they need . . . especially when faced with extra innings. or, if the game's a blow out, it gives the regular second baseman some time off to rest.
  17. the brewers have slipped of late . . . they're now 4th best in the league with 327 walks issued and 3.08 walks issued per 9 innings.
  18. that makes the roster full at 40. moving koskie to the 60-day disabled list opens up a spot, as does outrighting balfour.
  19. j.j. hardy has been frequently spotted with an older woman in genoa city, wisconsin.
  20. a little more recent than that. pat listach and graeme lloyd for gerald williams and bob wickman on 23 august 1996. listach may or may not have been sent back as damaged goods . . . i don't remember. considering that wickman got us sexson, i'd rank it as one of the most important trades in brewers history.
  21. estrada has 6 walks and 8 homers. mench is even at 6 and 6.
  22. gary darling is working second base at tonight's game.
  23. from the man himself: milwaukee.brewers.mlb.com...p&c_id=mil
  24. as the season wears on, the brewers are surrendering a few more walks, but they're still second best in the league behind the padres. 269 walks issued (second only to the pads) and 2.99 walks issued per nine innings (tied with the rockies and second to the aforementioned pads).
