1. adding a wrinkle to things is pending paternity leave for kolten wong, likely at the start of the homestand. one would think that if eduardo escobar is still on the injured list when it's time for wong to go on leave, that the brewers would still want tim lopes on the 40-man as a potential replacement. calling up keston hiura for three days wouldn't be horrible (and may be a better replacement than tim lopes). hiura has been seeing some action at second base with nashville. i still think that tim lopes will be dfa'd in september to open up a spot for jandel gustave or daniel vogelbach, but i think it's risky to do while escobar is still on the injured list.
2. the brewers can expand their roster from 26 to 28 on 1 september. what would you like to see happen? important to note: by 1 september, all players on optional assignment will have met their requisite 10 days in the minor leagues, which means anyone is eligible to recall. on the assumption that both corbin burnes and brandon woodruff go deep in san francisco and both games end in nine innings, i expect the brewers to recall a position player and a pitcher. my predictions: --recall of luke maile and activation of freddy peralta on 1 september (13 position players/15 pitchers). if peralta isn't ready, a recall of justin topa, who is optioned when peralta is to be activated. use maile to give the brewers catchers some rest ahead of the postseason. --during the philadelphia series, dfa luke maile (out of options next year) and activate daniel vogelbach--just ahead of games in american league parks (13/15). --when it's time to activate eduardo escobar, option pablo reyes (13/15). once that happens, dfa tim lopes, reinstate jandel gustave from his rehab assignment and option him to class aaa nashville. --when it's time to activate tyrone taylor, option hoby milner (14/14).
3. eduardo escobar played catch today.
4. if you're not signed to a major league contract, you can post such requests in this forum: viewforum.php?f=73
5. from a club's perspective, are draft picks valued more now that so many rounds of the rule 4 draft have been eliminated?
6. Can't read that because I'm not a subscriber, but I'm seeing December 1st here on the official MLB page... https://www.mlb.com/news/details-of-mlb-mlbpa-labor-agreement-c210125462 tom haudricourt was the source. he's since corrected it.
7. things are still looking good for freddy peralta.
8. From what I can tell, the CBA expires December 1st. Believe the Qualifying Offer deadline is like a week after the World Series or something? Would imagine teams will still be making QOs, but with the understanding the terms of those QOs could either change or disappear completely depending on how the new CBA shakes out. That uncertainty around the CBA, combined with all the Arby's raises incoming, makes me think the Brewers will be more likely to not offer Avi the QO. reported here that the collective bargaining agreement expires 31 december. and that qualifying offers must be made soon after the world series.
9. JBJ is going to be 32 years old and will amass 350+ PAs of an OPS waaaay under .600 and a .170ish average. I appreciate the optimism, but there is a 100% chance JBJ accepts his option. Who would even want him? And if they do why would he get more than near league minimum. yep, jackie bradley, jr. will accept his option. the brewers knew that if he tanked, putting the option in his hands was protection for his interests.
10. $3.5mm of that buyout is deferred. he can exercise his option and guarantee $9.5mm with $3mm deferred. and bear in mind that spring training had already started this year before a club finally signed him.
11. one has to wonder if the brewers will play with 14 pitchers on their active roster with the designated hitter in play for the next three games, or if they will decide to activate daniel vogelbach. vogelbach last played tuesday for class aaa nashville, and is in the starting lineup tonight.
12. brett anderson doesn't think that his injury is serious.
13. brett anderson left today's game with right hip tightness.
14. good progress for freddy peralta. likely to be activated first week of september, when rosters expand to 28.
15.
16. jandel gustave starts a rehab assignment tonight with class aaa nashville. presumably, it can last up to 30 days like other rehab assignments for pitchers, but this writer has not confirmed that.
17. you have to recognize that since the trade deadline, it's a lot harder to slip versatile players through outright waivers, because waiver claims are the only way to acquire decent talent at this point. the brewers aren't going to carry tim lopes, mark mathias and pablo reyes on their 40-man in the offseason. one or more will be outrighted by then, if not sooner. but for now, pablo reyes stays.

19. follow this thread to keep track.
20. pablo reyes has been recalled from class aaa nashville.
21. garcía needs only 67 more plate appearances for his option to turn into a mutual option.
22. we still don't know whether the brewers will be in a one-and-done series or a best-of-five series. and any player acquired by 31 august is eligible for postseason play. it's too early for this thread.
