  1. mike morin has his contract selected and is added to the 40-man roster. he is out of minor league options.
  2. something else that i believe we're still unclear on . . . minor league rehab assignments can be up to 20 days for position players and up to 30 days for pitchers. what is in place now, and what is the length of a minor league rehab assignment for a player such as luis urias, who then must either be activated or optioned to alternate camp at the conclusion of said rehab assignment?
  3. david stearns says that he expects that the taxi squad will vary from trip to trip. the rationale is that the development of the taxi squad players is stunted while they're away from grand chute. taxi squad players can work out with the club while on the road, and a catcher can serve as a bullpen catcher. the brewers have five road trips scheduled--one of which is just two games vs. the white sox. the longest road trip lasts 11 days. that's a pretty lengthy stretch of inactivity for a taxi squad player.
  4. wasn't guaranteeing the designated hitter for 2021 also tied to getting expanded playoffs in 2020?
  5. no minor league stadium currently meets major league standards with regards to lights and/or clubhouse space.
  6. or a deal brings in someone outside of the organization. the club has room in the 60-man player pool.
  7. david stearns expects shelby miller to remain in the organization.
  8. david stearns anticipates opening with 16 pitchers and 14 position players.
  9. ray black will be sent to grand chute and will resume throwing next week.
  10. trades can only include players from the 60-man player pool. it's unclear if teams are permitted to include cash or a player to be named later in a deal. the royals traded cash or a player to be named for a rule 5 draft player who had already cleared outright waivers.
  11. deadline to submit opening day rosters is 11:00 am central thursday.
  12. ray black opens the 2020 season on the 10-day injured list.
  13. logan morrison has been officially added to the 40-man roster. he has three minor league options intact, but enough major league service time to refuse any minor league assignment.
  14. justin grimm officially added to the 40-man roster. he is out of minor league options and has been outrighted to the minor leagues before. he has 5 years, 111 days of major league service.
  15. justin grimm and logan morrison officially added to the 40-man roster. the roster is at 39, with three players on the special covid-19 injured list.
  16. while active rosters are at 30 players, i want: jacob nottingham ronny rodriguez drew rasmussen (the brewers appear to have an open 40-man spot at the moment)
  17. while on road trips, the 30-man, 28-man and 26-man brewers rosters may bring along up to three players from their 60-man pool as potential active roster replacements in the event that a player is made inactive to the major league roster--a taxi squad, if you will. mlb is allowing for this to avoid commercial travel for the reporting player(s) and potential exposure while traveling. if the club carries three players on road trips, one of those players must be a catcher. that catcher may serve as a bullpen catcher. these players do not have to have 40-man roster status, but if they are activated, they must be added to the 40-man roster. if the brewers wish to return that player to the taxi squad or alternate summer camp in grand chute, he must either be placed on optional assignment (staying on the 40-man) or clear outright waivers (removed from the 40-man). keeping in mind that a 40-man roster spot is opened up whenever a player is placed on the special covid-19 injured list or 45-day injured list, or when a player is designated for assignment or placed on release waivers, who do you want on the club's taxi squad for ready activation on road trips?
  18. can be backdated three days from opening day.
  19. the special covid-19 injured list is further outlined on this thread.
  20. yes, indefinitely--until the player has two consecutive negative tests, but then also, presumably, has had time to undergo the equivalent of a minor league rehab assignment before being activated. that removes the player from the 60-man pool. once you're removed from the 60-man pool of your own club, you can't return to it.
  21. grimm was fortunate to have negotiated an opt-out clause. he has less than six years of major league service, and did not spend any time in 2019 on a major league roster.
  22. justin grimm has been told he will be on the club's 30-man roster.
  23. the brewers expect drew rasmussen to be sent to alternate camp in grand chute.
  24. fans should be reminded that the covid-19 injured list removes a player from the 40-man roster. thus, with eric lauer, angel perdomo and luis urias on the covid-19 il, the roster is currently at 37.
  25. decision expected this weekend, presumably for morrison and at least one other non-roster invitee . . . again, morrison was the only non-roster invitee whose contract required payment of that retention bonus by mlb. that doesn't mean that other players didn't have retention bonuses and/or opt-out clause(s) worked into their contracts.
