  1. The idea is to pick the top 10 movies you would want to take with you if you knew you were going to be trapped on a desert island, ranking them 1 through 10. Now, even though you may have loved The Ring, or Million Dollar Baby, you have to ask yourself if it's something you would want to watch over, and over, and over, and over...well, you get the idea. After much deliberation, here's my attempt at picking 10 movies that I would want to watch, for the rest of my life. 10. Unforgiven 9. Rounders 8. Braveheart 7. Rudy 6. Aliens 5. The Godfather 2 4. Terminator 2 3. Goodfellas 2. The Shawshank Redemption 1. The Godfather
  2. I've only been to one, Wrigley. I know there's a lot of history there, but if you don't have seats close to the field, you can't see anything. I had seats between 3rd and home plate in the lower level, 2nd row from the back, and this is what you see. Pitch comes in, batter hits a pop up, wait a few seconds because you can't see the ball, and the outfielder catches it. The one thing I did like about Wrigley is that the L drops you off literally a block away from the park, and the proximity of the bars are something we don't have in Milwaukee. Other than that, I didn't particularly like it. Oh, and the Brewers lost, so that didn't help matters any.
  3. They need to just blow that team up and trade Bay and Laroche. Build around your young SP's and the draft. Just bite the bullet like the Brewers did in '02-'04. As we've seen, there is no quick fix when a team is as inept as the Pirates are/Brewers were. It takes a long time to build back to respectability.
  4. My check will be stimulating the economy of Canada. Sorry, U.S. economy. Just because you give me money doesn't mean I'm going to spend it in this country. But hey, thanks alot. The $600 will really come in handy, what with the exchange rate being so crappy and all.
  5. Rome is going through all the email responses to the interview. Rome is awesome at interviews. He basically said that of the thousands of interviews he's done over his career, this one was his favorite. Maybe a little over-dramatic, but that's his style. I'll try a quick recap from memory: Rome asked Favre about his expectations coming into this year, and Favre said that he did not expect the team to do this well. Rome said that two years ago when Favre declared that this was the most talented team he had ever been around and everybody thought he was crazy, well a year later it turns out that Favre was right. Rome asked about the Koren Robinson situtation, and Favre said that he thinks the NFL should not have forced Koren to keep away from his teammates. Favre thinks the NFL should let suspended players remain with the team to have that support network to help them overcome their addictions. Talked a little bit about the Sportsman of the Year award and how in the article is stated that retirement is a banned subject around the Favre household. Rome asked Favre how he would know when it was time to walk away from the game, and Favre said he did not know. Favre said that he hopes he doesn't have to walk away because of injury and he hopes that the Packers don't say we don't want you anymore because that type of thing happens all the time in the NFL. He said he would love to go out a Super Bowl winner, but he doesn't need that and he's not going to hang around waiting for it. Edit: Favre said he plans on playing this Sunday vs. the Raiders. He's not 100%, but he's been practicing and he can throw pretty well.
  6. He's on right now. Started a couple minutes ago
  7. Go outside and do stuff. Yesterday, I shoveled snow, and afterwards, I was exhausted and my back hurt like hell. I took 1,000 mg of ibuprofin, ate some food, and today I'm a new man. Historically, this is the best remedy I can remember working for me personally. I remember back when I was living at my parents' house, and I was out drinking beer all night, and my Dad woke me up to do chores. I was out in the field in the hot sun shearing Christmas trees or something. For about an hour or so, it was pure hell. However, after some food, lots of water, and a quick nap, I was cured. The best way to cure a hangover, IMO, is to prepare your body before you start drinking, and if possible, try and stick to one kind of drink all night. Obviously, too much of any one kind of drink, and it won't matter. Also, try and pace yourself. Another thing, it's not always how much you drink. Too much beer too fast can give you a killer headache the next morning.
  8. I'd say in a normal week, I do about 15 minutes of real, actual work.
  9. I heard the tail end of the interview, and he said that Braun was willing to do whatever was best for the organization. Doug said if he can find a 3rd baseman, he'll look at moving Braun to left. To me, it sounded like something that he is seriously considering, which kind of surprises me.
  10. Sparky just had a heart attact on WSSP.
  11. Spiders, snakes, man-eating lions? For me it's bats and snakes. I also am very much afraid of bees. Spiders don't bother me, unless they have hair. Anybody have any unusual fears they would like to share? It could be therapeutic.
  12. The Effen V and T's were flowing tonight at the BBC.
  13. Actually, Utley already has enough plate appearances to qualify for the batting title. He could sit out the rest of the year, and if nobody passed him up, he would be the batting champ. Crazy.
  14. Here's the latest info on how playoff tickets would be distributed. http://blogs.jsonline.com/brewers/
  15. Braun currently has 399 plate appearances after 139 games. He would need 431 to qualify for the 3.1 PA's/game at this point in the season, which means he needs to average 4.48 PA's/game from here on out to reach the necessary 502 PA's to qualify for the batting title. Right now Braun is hitting .334, behind Utley (.341) and Renteria (.336). Braun has 91 games played this year, for an average of 4.38 PA's/game, so he currently is just below the necessary pace to have enough PA's to qualify. With Yost's penchant lately for taking Braun out late in games, as well as Utley's lead in the race, it looks like it will be difficult for Braun to get enough PA's this year to qualify for the batting title.
  16. Giving this thread a bump...just wanted to say that I was at the game last night, and Bill Hall looked absolutely lost at the plate. His body language in one particular at bat looked as if he had absolutely no confidence that he was going to even make contact with the ball, and that's exactly what happened. We need to find a way to get this guy going if we are going to have any hope of turning this thing around. Come on, Billy, I have faith in you. Don't let me down!
  17. We had Linebrink and Shouse ready, and they both had plenty of rest. The odds of one of those pitchers grooving one to a guy who hasn't hit a homerun all season are a lot lower than Bush's. Bush simply cannot be trusted to keep a lead late in the game.
  18. There is more to managing that what the stats tell you. A good manager sometimes has to go on a gut feeling. I think that after as many meltdowns as Bush has had this year come the 6th inning, his leash should be very short. You won't find a better candidate for "five and dive" pitcher of the year than Dave Bush.
  19. Pitch counts mean nothing. Bush cannot make it through a lineup three times. He was not born with that gene. Also there's the fact that we had a completely rested bullpen that should have been more than capable of holding a two run lead.
  20. Ned Yost has no control of his team. I'm pretty sure the reason Dave Bush stayed in the game long enough to give up a 3-run lead is because between innings, Yost asked Bush if it would be okay with him if he could take him out of the game if he got into any trouble, and Bush told Yost, "No." ----- Continued from: viewtopic.php?p=223749#p223749 Original Lead: viewtopic.php?f=63&t=382
  21. But if you do that, then you have to adjust the batting average. As long as he doesn't miss any more games, no such adjustment will be necessary, which will greatly increase his chances of winning the batting title.
  22. Braun has 305 plate appearances in 68 games this season, for an average 4.49 plate appearances per game. He needs 197 more plate appearances in 46 games to qualify for the batting title, which would be an average of 4.28 plate appearances per game. As long as he keeps up his current pace, he will have enough.
  23. I thought it was between Graffy and Yost. If it was between Estrada and Yost, that could be interesting to see how it plays out. One or the other might not be with the team next year. Maybe both. I'm thinking both.
  24. Wow, that's harsh. Dude, his wife just had a C-section. I'm pretty sure that's a situation where the husband should be with his wife, no matter what.
  25. I have a very good feeling about sending Rickie to AAA. He should be hitting his stride just about the time September call-ups rolls around, which would be like trading for a stud-two-bagger. He clearly wasn't helping the team right now, so bringing a guy like Dillon up makes sense. Dessens is up probably because of the 13 inning slugfest last night. I don't see him hanging with the club much longer than the end of the week. Unless of course, Wise doesn't get his head screwed on straight. That could be an issue, judging by Yost's post-game comment last night.
