  1. "What would you say...you do here?" Seriously, though, I am so sick of Ned Yost. What really ticks me off are his explanations for why he does things. An example would be the reason he took Sheets out of a game early. He said I'm not going to take a chance with Ben Sheets. Not in April. What kind of reasoning is that? We don't need a manager who coddles his players, especially guys like Sheets. Let him throw until his arm falls off. He's a big boy. He can handle it. The time for babysitting our players is over. Toughen up, for crying out loud.
  2. I'm not real happy about this. I liked Gabe, and I thought he could have been a good player if he would have gotten some consistent playing time.
  3. Not only does he have all the physical similarities to El Presidente, he kind of talks like him too. He's very vague, he gives very obvious answers to interviewers, and he's not very articulate. When he's winning, he's very relaxed, and when he's losing, he tenses up, he's quasi-sarcastic, and he's very, very stubborn. Can somebody find a couple head shots and post them side by side, a la Geoff Jenkins and Brett Favre? I'd like to see that.
  4. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/7949940/Handing-out-the-hardware-before-the-season-starts Ken Rosenthal picks Braun to win the NL MVP, and Soto for NL ROY, with Parra getting a mention.
  5. 1. Shouse will have an ERA under 2.5 2. Parra will win ROY. 3. Simmons will be manager by the end of May.
  6. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/baseball/mlb/specials/spring_training/2008/03/19/cubs.wood.ap/index.html Could this be an ongoing thing for him? Apparently, he's had this problem before.
  7. This reminds me of that one episode of The Office where Michael put Dwight in charge of cutting the health plan, and Dwight made everybody list all of their diseases. Everybody made up a bunch of fictional diseases, and Dwight got mad. Then he said something like, "who made up this hilarious one, anal fissures?" Kevin said that that was an actual disease, and Dwight said, "Yeah, but nobody has it." Kevin kind of hesitated for a second and said, "someone has it."
  8. Yes, it's a five gallon batch. And the yeast is really working now. It's starting to foam big time. It won't be long, and it will start coming out through the blow off tube. I made beer. Awesome.
  9. Yeah, I think I need one of those. Shaking a carboy full of wort is kind of a pain. BTW, I just checked my mixture, and I think it's starting to bubble. Exciting.
  10. My wort didn't really boil very hard. It boiled a little in the middle, but that was it. I think it's because I used like five gallons of water and couldn't get the stove hot enough. Hopefully that was good enough. I think next time less water in the brewpot would be a good idea. Since there was no room for any water in the carboy, I could not put any cold water in the mix, which I realized made it a long time before the wort was cool enough to add the yeast. I went to a store in Waukesha called the Frugal Homebrewer and talked to the owner. He told me what I all needed to get started, and he gave me his instructions which are pretty easy to follow. My first batch was a red ale, so I didn't even need to mess around with a grain bag, which made it even easier. I also have a friend who knows how to brew, and he helped guide me through the process.
  11. I had been wanting to brew my own beer for some time, and last night I did it. I bought some supplies, boiled up a big pot of water, and brewed up a batch of ale. Right now the yeast is getting it on with the wort (assuming I didn't screw anything up), and hopefully soon I will see signs of fermentation. In about a month or so, I should be ready to drink my first batch of homebrew. I figured with all the money I spend buying beer, why not cut out the middle man and make it myself? It was somewhat expensive for all the equipment I had to buy, but eventually that should even out. I plan on making a lot of beer over the course of my life.
  12. ESPN is reporting that Pujols has a torn elbow ligament, but will not have surgery.
  13. Check out this video. Genius, sheer genius.
  14. Sleep. It's the one thing I can just never seem to get enough of. John Denver. He had some really good songs. Orange tic tacs. The Internet. I am able to watch shows that I never was able to before.
  15. Work. Work is overrated. Way overrated.
  16. Sparky is talking about this very thread right now on 1250. Nice work, everybody.
  17. Has anyone ever won ROY and MVP in back to back seasons? I think Braun could do it, especially with his move to left field. If he had been in left field at the start of last season, he most likely would have been on the opening day roster. If he had been on the opening day roster, what would his stats have been? He most definitely would have had over forty homers. Couple that with his batting average, stolen bases, and the defensive improvement he would have had from playing an easier position, and he could have won both awards last year. I think it will be between Pujols, Rollins, Fielder, and Braun this year for MVP. I like Braun's chances of winning this award, possibly very easily.
  18. I agree that the Brewers should do a long term extension only if it is cost effective. Otherwise I have no problem with Braun and Fielder making the baseball equivalent of slave wages until they hit their arby years. The overall contract would have to balance the pittance they are receiving now with the haul they could possibly get in arbitration.
  19. I got two tickets right after 9:00 a.m. online for Sunday, April 6th (Prince Bobble Day). Out of curiosity, I checked a few minutes ago to see what was still available for that game, and I was unable to get through due to high volume.
  20. The nice thing about Leff's is they have like 100 portapotties set up inside their tent, as opposed to the six they have for everybody else in the entire parking lot.
  21. So am I a moron? Because I just bought tickets. It may be a crappy ticket, but it's still a ticket. Have fun watching the game on TV.
  22. The question you have to ask yourself is do you really want Braun or Fielder to hit 60? I say no, because last year we led the majors in dingers, and we only won 83 games. I would rather have the players more focused on situational hitting.
  23. Booze. Lots and lots of booze.
