  1. Was listening to XM Home Plate this morning, where Rosenthal and Duquette both remarked that until the Manny and Teixiera situations resolve themselves, guys like Dunn, Burrell, Abreu, etc (mid-level guys after the big ones) won't be signing anywhere. I truly believe that Doug has a "bigger" plan than what has been happening thus far, he's just playing the waiting game and letting the market establish itself. Dunn just makes too much sense for this club, in my opinion. He'll come relatively affordable and is of far more value than the type of pitcher we'll get for that money. I still feel Hart will be traded for pitching.
  2. From Keith Law's chat on ESPN a few hours ago: Corey (Chicago): Keith, What am I missing? The Rays are looking for help in the pen but leave Morlan unprotected? http://assets.espn.go.com/i/sn2.gif Keith Law: Velo down, out of shape, throwing poorly in winter ball. I was fine with it. Also, a tidbit on the Brewers options should they not be staisfied with Morlan this season: Nate (DC): So if you take a player in the Rule 5 draft, what exactly does that mean? http://assets.espn.go.com/i/sn2.gif Keith Law: You have to carry him on your major-league roster for all of 2009, or return him to his former team for $25K (after he clears outright waivers). He must spend at least 90 days on the active roster, and if he doesn't, the requirement carries over to the next year.
  3. from MLBTradeRumors, via John Manuel of BA: Interesting...let's see if it goes down.
  4. Yep, agree with jj here - if Salome made it it would have been in the 40-50 range, as most of the "community" lists and early lists I have seen put Angel somewhere in the 50-75 range. Seems like they're scared off by the defense and "height concerns" (which I feel is a poor excuse, FWIW). My amateur guess is Escobar will be 37 and Gamel will be 26. And if I waged a guess for LaPorta, I think he is still being overrated...let's say 14. **EDIT** well they just released 31-40 and Escobar isn't on that portion of the list. I guess it is entirely probable that he is in that 20-30 range. Good for him.
  5. You know, if Maddux does indeed bolt to Arlington, I for one will be OK with it. Don't get me wrong, I would love to have him back - but if Macha wants to bring in his own guy, he has every right to. Who's to say that Macha and Maddux would have seen eye to eye on things? This way, we avoid any potential "disturbances" during the season should the staff start to falter.
  6. For me it comes down to this: if we all feel that both of these players have the ability to be a contributor to the major league club relatively soon (1-2 years), which position is more scarce in Milwaukee? With our 3B and 2B positions nothing short of a complete mess right now, I for one am glad it was Brantley to go and not Green. That being said, it sounds as if Mike is a great individual, and like LaPorta and the rest of the folks who went to Cleveland, wish him all the best.
  7. I agree with this assessment - and further strengthens my argument on why we should put Hart atop the order. Will the Philles pitchers be brave enough to throw pitches outside of the zone to the leadoff man, in fear of walking him? One might say Hart would swing anyway, but if you subscribe to the fact that he is struggling because of where he is hitting in the order, throw him where you know he will see a strike. As a poster noted above, there aren't really a whole bunch of options for the 1 spot right now...blech.
  8. Minorleagueball.com Aaron Gleeman MLB Trade Rumors ESPN Insider on top of all the Hoops blogs I have to read due to my job. I think I just realized why it's been a long summer http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  9. Boy, this is about as dead-on as you can get, IMO. I too have been an Alias and Lost watcher and feel like this show has no chance for character development, but Abrams has proved me wrong before. I hope this is one of those instances as well. Really, I'm just looking for a show to supplement my daily intake of Go Diego Go, Word Girl and Super Why... http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  10. This is what it has come to. Cameron bunting for his dear life.
  11. Wow...we have reached http://www.tcs.org/ioport/defcon4.gif Sadly enough, I like the move.
  12. Not like this is some great revelation or whatever, but everyone take a moment once again and look at the Reds starting lineup today. It absolutely astounds me that I am "nervous" about today's game with CC friekin Sabathia going against the who's who of the Cape Cod league. Has my trust in this team fallen this far? I feel like I am in a bad nightmare and the only thing that can wake me up is a win by the Hefty Lefty. Let's Go Crew.
  13. At least that means it's not Lucroy. Battlekow, please excuse my potential ignorance on this question, but...How so?
  14. FWIW, it depends if the team controls the inventory on the broadcasts. Most professional sports teams control the radio rights and let the station sell a certain amount of spots in-game. TV is a whole different animal. Most teams have zero control of their TV, especially if it is on cable. Anything that is over-the-air, might be controlled by the team and they would get the revenue generated from those telecasts.
  15. A couple things raced through my mind in that photo of Brett swinging... 1) Could this be the next reincarnation of a beloved Wisconsin figure wearing #4, with the given name of Brett??? 2) I then immediately remembered Mr. Paul Molitor. Looks like Brett is on the hunt for a new number... Impressive young man, let's hope his confidence translates into hits.
  16. Jacob Odorizzi Great topic, and one that is a bit of a downer, really. It emphasizes the point that the pitching in AAA and AA isn't all that great as far as "upside", but maybe there are 3 or 4 rotation-fillers in this group. The exciting pitchers are all in A and rookie ball - here's hoping that Lintz, Odorizzi and Frederickson are the real deal.
  17. As an aside, if anyone is heading up to the Cities early (like Thursday), I'd be happy to offer you some Minnesota Lynx tickets for the game that evening - tip is at 7pm at Target Center. If interested, feel free to drop a message in my Inbox.
  18. Based on some of these stats, I can see a need rather quickly in West Virginia: 15th out of 16 in ERA 11th out of 16 in WHIP 11th out of 16 in BBA Be interesing to see if any of these draftees head there. Love what Jack Z and his crew are doing thus far. Grab a couple impact bats early, a few HS impact arms, and round it out with college pitchers who can contribute a bit quicker at the upper levels.
  19. Is anyone listening to the radio broadcast? Did my ears hear Uecker correctly? "This guy (Isringhausen) is one of the best closers of all time, him right here. Hall of Fame numbers for Isringhausen." I'm going to Baseball Reference right now to check. I darn near fell out of my chair.
  20. What can I say...gone are the man-crushes of James Jerry Hardy and Corey Hart, say hello to "The Chiseled One". http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/tongue.gif
  21. Pedro: The boxed baseball cards intrigue me. Not sure what area you live, but I'll be in Milwaukee for Opening Day weekend. Thanks for the generosity!
  22. What a great weekend that would be...I fly in for the Home Opener on Friday morning, and don't return until Sunday morning. That Saturday game would be the proverbial "icing on the cake". Count me in the drawing - appreciate the generosity.
  23. Couldn't agree more, jazzy. It seems that Braun genuinely respects his teammates and thinks they are great hitters, thus making him a better hitter. The 10 months or so he has been in Milwaukee thus far have almost been too good to be true from both the baseball and public forum arenas. Seems to be "one of the good ones".
  24. Someone earlier guessed it was from the show "OC". Same region, different show. We'll believe when we see it...yes, on TMZ.com. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Link is here in case you aren't familiar with LC's work: http://www.laurenconrad.com/
