  1. And remember that groundskeeper who eventually left for his hometown of Boston? There were some great patterns out there. I miss County Stadium. I am fine with Miller Park though. However, here's a few things I wish: Get rid of the ivy in center field. Grow some hop leaves or barley out there instead. Be original in your rip off. Leave the roof open more often. I'm sorry, but I hate it when it's 65F and the roof is closed and there are three clouds in the sky. C'mon. I want the old Keg and Slide to come back. I know it won't happen. I also wish Bernie Brewer was just a real guy and not a styrofoam head. I want the microbrews sold by the seat beer vendors as well. I don't like Lite and GD all that well. I'd take a high life if I had to, but I like to get the New Glarus and Sprecher when I can and I'm tired of standing in line for it.
  2. I agree with the poster who said County Stadium was a dump. It was, and should have been blown up twice, and never mentioned again. I mean it was dumpy because Bud and Co. let it dwindle into ruins and never revamped it. With good reason though. Who does want to remember Matt Mieskie, Warren Spahn, Robin Yount, Paul Molitor, Eddie Matthews, Hank Aaron and Bill Travers? I also wish that they would have torn down Lambeau and have built SUPERPACKERPARK where you could have bought PACKER $8 DOGS or something really, really cool. That would have been awesome. Lambeau is a dump. I was also thinking as I drove to St. Louis last year that there was another structure that needed to be taken down: the Cahokia ruins. C'mon, it's already 1,000 years old or something. So stupid and old.
  3. I agree with that. But right now I just see the Crew playing so horribly and it's so disheartening. But you're right, we shouldn't get all fatalistic. We're lucky enough to finally have a good team. It just seemed like we were being given the division crown for so long. Living in Chicago, this is what I primarily see. Then again, there are some obnoxious Cubs fans out there. Of course much of this is just because a lot of sports fans get too...fanatical and let their joy be steered by their teams' performances (All Brewer fans are certainly not saints). But it's not the true-blue Cub fans I think most people have a problem with. My sister is part of a season ticket package at Wrigley (she's a turncoat) and there are guys who sit in that section who are great and are at every inning of every game, even in seasons like last years. I have no problem with them. I just don't understand the people who have to come up to me and give me a hard time when I'm wearing my Brewer cap or something. To me those people reek of "I just moved to Chicago and I want to prove I am a total Cubs fan". But because Chicago is a big city, there are a lot of those people around unfortunately. And unfortunately (for us) they allow the Cubs to overpay for guys like Soriano - though he's earning his money this year.
  4. For the first six innings he's wearing garters and breathing out of his right eyelid.
  5. If Gagne finds Milwaukee or New York more distasteful than Boston, he'll just waive his no-trade clause though. I don't know what he has against Boston (why it's in his contract) but I have to imagine he'd rather play for the strongest team out there.
  6. A family emergency has prevented me from going to St. Louis and using my 3 tickets to the noon game today. They're in the club section and they include free beer and food. If you are somehow looking for tickets here, you can have them for whatever you want to give (they were $90 apiece). I have them on will-call, so we'll have to work something out. Let me know. It would be great if they didn't go to waste.
  7. Why do people dislike Podsednik? I'm not in love with the guy, and he was not a complete player or anything, but in a dark, dark year, he was kind of a pleasant surprise, so I give him that.
  8. Creative venting. Got to keep it sharp. It's a long season.
  9. I agree. Sow and you shall reap. Besides, somebody posted to this either yesterday or the day before, and the Cubs won. Some of the pictures are funny, and I'm grateful to see them, but to spend this much energy hating another team......it's kind of Cubs like. I'm just saying. The best revenge they say, is to lead a good life. Along those lines, the best curse is to play good ball.
  10. Why would I start now? I already bought the URL www.freechadmoeller.com and there are no refunds. Very, very true. And the bar has once again sunk a little lower. Well then, I guess I'm just bitter because somebody stole my pie after I ate it. And the Royalty really came out a-head there. Ouch. Much more what? Tums? I will do my wassailing where I please, thank you very much. Well insanity is really only used as a legal term, and so you are technically wrong for the next few hours until the jury comes out. You win that one. I can't imagine a blueberry cake. Blueberry pie.....mmmmmmm
  11. And honorable mention to Curt Schilling who somehow thinks I should want to hear him scream his opinions about every little thing.
  12. Brian's list with a dash of BillyHallFan's my own secret ingredient: Barry Bonds Aramis Ramirez Carlos Zambrano Gary Sheffield Whatever Player just had the Game of His Life against the Crew.
  13. I am very disappointed in you FTJ. I usually enjoy your posts for their thoughtfulness and insight. But no pie is greater than:Cheesecake, Chocolate Cheesecake, Chocolate Cherry Cake, Black Forest Tort (which I consider a cake). There is no band (I've ever heard of) called "Pie" whereas Cake is a screaming fun band. Nobody says, "you can't have your pie and eat it too". If Pie is so great than why didn't Marie Antoinette let the peasants eat that? Why isn't an easy task a "piece of pie?" Why doesn't a rascally act "take the pie?" You are clearly wrong. Your other posts however are pretty good. (The above could have been written in blue to show that I did not mean this as a call out to FTJ, but for effect, I did not write it in blue. And I apologize to the whole forum for not truly venting with this post.)
  14. I could take that all so much more if it weren't the Cubs. What bothers me the most is just that the Cubs seem to have the momentum and the swagger, and I'm starting to believe all the annoying sportscasters who have said, "The Brewers are inexperienced and they can be had". The Brewers have a much tougher schedule than the Cubs from here on out by sheer virtue of finishing the year against the Braves and the Padres. The Cubs finish at Florida and Cincinatti. I'm just mostly annoyed that we don't seem to win games that we probably should. I know the Reds have more to them than meets the record, but would a split have killed us? Right now things seem dark. I know this year has been a gift, but it almost seems like a tease to get this far and then watch it falter.
  15. There are two votes on this page for desperation move. I don't see it that way at all. For the last couple of months there have been rumors (and suggestions on this site) for getting some BP help. We all wanted Gagne/Otsuka/Weathers. Last year a good number of people were disappointed we didn't get more for El Caballo. I'm not a fan of this trade either, and like every other trade DM does, I'll Fox Mulder it and "want to believe" it to be a good trade. I wish we could have gotten more for the highly touted Inman, but the only way it's desperation to me is if they tried to get Gagne/Otsuka (pre DL)/Weathers, and could't and "settled" for Linebrink. However DM had said that they had their sites on Linbrink for the last year. What bothers me the most is that sometimes I'm a bit off on DM's infatuations. He "liked" Mench and Nix last year, and obviously like Suppan.
  16. According to mlb4u.com Wise will be walking after the season too, unless we resign him.
  17. Well Inman may have struggled at AA, but his K to inning ratio still looks awesome. I'm no stats scholar, but regardless of how high Inman goes, he's probably the real deal. I think even if you are for this trade you don't argue that. I think the hardest thing to digest really is that unless the extremes happen, we will just never know to what extent it was a good trade. If Linebrink has a Chris Demaria type of career in Milwaukee, then we know it was bad. If has a decent ERA, then we just go 'meh'. If we win the World Series and he has a decent ERA (best possible outcome) we may still wonder, "Did we really need to give up Inman for him though?". (assuming that Inman doesn't Nuegebauer it for the Padres) The bottom line is that we don't know, and the trade is not sexy. Because of CV's and Gallardo's successes we were excited about Inman, and so in a sense we traded a lot of hope (which Brewers fans have had to use as currency for too many years) for someone who's success and contributions may be hard to gauge.
  18. I love how the posters at NSB declare this thread pathetic and desperate.....in the middle of their "I hate Ryan Braun" thread. Nice.
  19. I would have loved that. I mean, whoever ends up being the best combo, great, but how cool would it have been to have brought those two back into the fold and then have gone all the way with them?
  20. I know he's Jewish. What I meant to ask was, who is known to have coined he nickname for him? But apparently it's a nickname that's already been around for other players.
  21. Sorry. I was looking through both threads and I posted my above reply in the wrong thread. In any case, at this point I'm fine with Graffy. I like Lo and all, but unless the Astros were giving him away, I don't think he's that much of an upgrade. (of course watch Graffy go off his hot streak past the trading deadline.)
  22. He's only signed through 2007.
  23. This is the first I've heard about the 'Hebrew Hammer' nickname. Where is that from?
  24. I was thinking the same thing about Turnbow and Wise. If there was a trade it could just be that if one got traded, the other ran along to hear the news with the other.
  25. Amen. I got my grill jacked a little less than a year ago, and it too was a bit wonky. People got nothing better to do than steal a smokey joe in a state of disrepair? Are you sitting around telling your friends, "Whoa dude, I totally got this grill for free! Totally saved myself $30 on this one!" And when will the Cubs return to Earth? Because watching the Crew falter while the Cubs are hot is just a little too much.
