  1. Whatever is left on Braun's contract this year is the only amount that these two teams need. SF has a lot of money coming off the books next season. So do the Dodgers. So it'll come to about 8million? 6? I dunno what Braun will be owed by the Deadline or the week or two before it. If it's 15million cost this season he should already be down to 7.5million approximately. I've chimed in multiple times you could take Puig from them to offset some salary. If there were problems within clubhouse post trade, you move him in offseason. I would think any deferred money owed to Braun years down the road will almost assuredly be picked up by Milwaukee. Splitter is right in that either the Brewers a) kick in substantial cash or b) take back bad contracts in order to acquire good prospects. I have no idea what kind of contract situation those teams are in regards to "dead weight" though.
  2. This could be bad news for Harvey's career in general. From what I've read, it seems this condition has prematurely ended the career of many pitchers.
  3. I think the point of contention is that while this is technically allowable, it is not at all a common practice and is a very gray area from an ethical standpoint. It was absolutely not deserved from a performance perspective and I really, really hope they made assurances to Davies to make him whole financially. I have no problem with Stearns exploiting things like this, but not if it leads to a bad perception by the players. The fact that Boras is sounding off makes me think that this there weren't any assurances made to Davies, which would be disappointing. Davies deserves better based on his performance.
  4. Wilkerson sounds intriguing. If he indeed ends up being a late bloomer in the mold of Mike Fiers, you've got a useful rotation piece who is cost-controlled through his prime years. It's about what you would expect for Aaron Hill. A couple of "could be something, could be nothing" prospects.
  5. He's 20 years old. That's such an asinine statement. You must have missed the post where he recognized that his youth should be taken into consideration. Also, posters who condescend the opinions of others tend to not last long here. You can disagree in a civil manner all you want.
  6. Way too early to form conclusions on this, but Baldkin is way out of line here. It's way worse to conclude that "chances are he's guilty" when you've stated no reasoning for that logic other than other athletes have committed sex crimes than for someone to lament that he will be looked at as a predator if he were to be completely cleared of any wrongdoing. Anyways, what's known so far via Hardballtalk:
  7. Nailed it. Souvenir balls should wind up in the hands of kids, who will have a lasting memory of that experience. I know it sounds like I'm clutching my pearls here, but every ball he collects robs a kid out of that enjoyment. He's the equivalent of a high schooler who still goes trick or treating on Hallowen. Or a 40 year old Boy Scout who enters himself into the Pinewood Derby to win a ribbon. Really, really pathetic in my eyes.
  8. Braun should be in, and it's a shame because he likely won't fare well with the fan vote.
  9. Seriously? Given the sacrifices that military personnel and their families make for this country, I have no problem with restricting civilian fans from this game. I agree that what MLB tried to do (having the very first regular season game on an active military base where the spectators were supposed to be just military and their families) was well intended. However, that restriction only made a guy like Hample want to get in even more. All souvenir balls from that game went to families that will likely keep and cherish them, other than the 11 or so balls that Hample somehow got his hands on. He now has a monopoly on the collectibles market from this game. Balls that are likely worth much more than the alleged $100 per ball he's pledged for charity. If MLB has any game balls remaining, I hope they release them through their regular auctions to try to dilute their collectible worth. In general, guys like Hample and Happy Youngster get under my skin. The fact he ended up with 11 balls is alarming, yet also impressive in the sense he was surrounded by military and probably used some unscrupulous tactics and emerged unscathed.
  10. The best scenario for us could be pitting the Nats & Mets against each other in bidding war.

  12. A couple of things. First, you seem to group all steroids together. That's an incorrect statement. A bodybuilder isn't going to take the same kinds of steroids that are used by professional cyclists as an example. As Ennder pointed out, the steroids that put on the kind of mass we saw with the McGwire/Sosa/Bonds era aren't used today. Those will typically compromise an athlete's flexibility if they aren't supplementing their workouts with adequate stretching/yoga routines. The steroids used today in baseball are likely geared towards endurance, not muscle mass. Also, I'm confused why you would say that steroids will help you get stronger but not because they help you recover or train harder. That is EXACTLY how they work. If you have a twin brother of the exact same strength and one of you takes a strength-enhancing steroid while the other does not, and you do the exact same workout with the exact same weights and repetitions with the exact same frequency, you will likely get the exact same results. Where the steroid will help is that the tears in the muscle tissue heal much faster enabling that person to then INCREASE the frequency of their workouts and increase the weights used, resulting in larger gains. The steroid simply enables you to recover faster to increase your workout intensity, or to perform at 100% for a full baseball season.
  13. These sort of altercations are so stupid, BUT it was also sickly satisfying to see a hotheaded pitcher actually held accountable directly by the victim for his actions. It gets really annoying how you see pitchers like Ventura & Gerrit Cole act tough and pretend to be the enforcers of these unwritten rules, while knowing that any repercussions will likely be directed at a teammate and not them. The DDT Machado landed was a nice touch as well. Almost as comical as the Nolan Ryan/Robin Ventura headlock.
  14. Wasn't it established earlier that optioning Peralta to the minors isn't viable because he'd first have to pass through waivers?
  15. I've said it before, but I don't think they will ever shift to singular logo as "full time" as the thread title suggests. Right now you have the Barley logo as 1a and Ball & Glove as 1b considering as often as they wear it. It just makes way too much sense from a marketing/merchandising standpoint to have multiple logos. The Brewers can have their cake and eat it too by pleasing both sides currently. The only way I could see the Ball & Glove coming back as the primary logo would be if they retired the Barley logo and came up with another secondary logo to become the new alternate.
  16. That's pretty much it. You can't take some supplements and sit on the couch. They don't make you stronger by themselves, they shorten your recovery time. Not only do they allow for an increased workout regimen in the offseason, but if you can lessen the fatigue on your body from playing the day before, you will likely perform better.
  17. Walsh DFA'd http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/05/brewers-designate-colin-walsh.html
  18. Good Lord, at least this was a trade suggested by a website and not a rumored deal. Our two best trade chips for two bloated contracts and a prospect? That's not Stearns MO at all. If we took on Sandoval in a salary dump (where'd they bet getting much better production for similar dollars in Braun), they'd better be getting back significant multiple prospects to take on that dead weight.
  19. Apparently he figured out he was getting fired when he received a travel alert that he had a flight scheduled from Pittsburgh back to Atlanta on Tuesday... which was right in the middle of their road trip.
  20. So if I'm understanding that stance correctly, the author could/should have written something like: "Gomez said that he understands the frustration of the fans regarding his performance since being acquired from Milwaukee last July."
  21. If you go with a silicone sealer, you can actually buy some that contains ingredients that are supposed to repel insects and/or rodents to keep them from working their way back. I used that at my old house when i noticed a hole in the side of the garage big enough for field mice and some of the D-Con packets I had down in the garage were eaten (the mice had also made a nest next to the air filter of my wife's car during the winter). I sealed that hole up and they weren't able to get back inside.
  22. I think the people advocating for the full time return of this logo are also more inclined to read way too much into things like this, because it's what they want to see. Instead of making an assertion about others reading too much into things, perhaps you should question why the Brewers are the only team in MLB to not use their current primary logo on any of the hats. I did, and then came to the conclusion that what you pointed out isn't conclusive of anything. The Cleveland Indians, despite their own efforts to somewhat distance themselves from this logo, have Chief Wahoo as an arm patch on the MLB Stars and Stripes jersey as one example. I'm not going to jump to the conclusion that this signifies a "soft opening" to returning to that logo. I really don't care either way, I like both logos and the Brewers have freedom to use either one in merchandising and special hats/jerseys ordered by the MLB. I just find it a little funny how conspiracy theories like this start because of something that likely means nothing. From a marketing standpoint, why would they ever go back full time to the ball & glove logo (or ever limit themselves to just one)? They use both logos prominently, and both are available for purchase on every incarnation of apparel in existence. They are getting the best of both worlds by appealing to supporters of both logos. That would be an incredibly poor business decision to extinguish one logo in favor of another. You will sell much less merchandise by eliminating one of these logos.

  24. Getting a look at Vader in his prime would be sweet, but does anyone know at what point between Episode III and IV this is? There is roughly a 20 year gap there, and based on the evidence from the end of Episode III regarding the Death Star (construction had just begun) and the trailer (made it look like the Death Star was fully operational), my assumption is that it is towards the latter part of that gap. I believe the Death Star wasn't activated until it destroyed Alderaan. If that is the case, my expectations for how impressive Vader would be in battle is pretty low. He wouldn't be that far away from fight Kenobi in Episode IV, where they looked like a couple of geriatrics flailing away with their light sabers. But still.... VADER! Another part of the trailer you see the Imperial Guards (in red). I hope to see them in action, as well. Their fighting capabilities should rival the Jedi. In that scene, you see a figure in a black cloak, kneeling towards what looks like a hologram communication device that is often used. Could it be a) Vader, kneeling down before the Emperor (which seemed odd to me since we don't see Vader use a hooded cloak like he did as a Jedi); b) perhaps a secret apprentice of Vader (a common theme in video games, although this defies the "Rule of Two" for the Sith); or c) Could that be Emperor Palpatine/Darth Sidious, kneeling before another figure, perhaps Snoke?
