  1. Curse the Cubs Thread: 2 Cubs: 0
  2. A report I heard on ESPN radio claims he is prepared to "name names," bringing in other referees as well as NBA players into this scandal.
  3. http://media.scout.com/Media/Image/27/276807.jpg
  4. Could he project as a closer, though? Or is more valuable as a 7th/8th inning dominant set up guy?
  5. To answer my own question, it looks like he as been used primarily as a reliever the past 3 years, with 2005 being the only in the past 3 seasons in which he appeared as a starter (9 games started in 32 appearances). His ERA for the past 3 seasons (219 innings pitched) is 3.95, with a 1.26 WHIP, and averages 1 strikeout per inning. EDIT: It also looks like he's very Matt Wise-ish, in that he appears to be equally or more effective vs. Lefties than Righties despite being a RHP.
  6. Can anybody figure out a way to find his career stats as a reliever? If X is correct, perhaps his career ERA is misleading.
  7. What's wrong with Shouse? He's a pretty good LOOGY and has showed that he can pitch multiple innings if needed, although I'd prefer him in the LOOGY role.
  8. If this image is inappropriate, please feel free to remove - it's a bit risqué: http://adweek.blogs.com/photos/uncategorized/cubs.jpg
  9. The last time I saw Norm was when he did an interview on The Daily Show just a few days after Steve Irwin died. He did all kinds of jokes like, "You know who's really pissed off - the crocodiles. They tried their whole lives to get this guy, and then who gets him? A sting ray!" Jon Stewart had his hands over his mouth, keeping the laughter in and said "Please don't make me laugh at this." I've always liked Norm, but he probably should have waited a little bit longer than 2 days after the Crocodile Hunter's death to try out those jokes.
  10. He would be booed in every stadium except in San Fran. Although you could hear some cheering for him at Wrigley mixed in with the boo's during the radio broadcast when he hit 2. But Hank Aaron's record means a little bit more to fans of Milwaukee and Atlanta, and his reception at those two cities would probably be the coldest he could get.
  11. I once saw Jonathan Frakes (Commander William T. Riker from Star Trek: The Next Generation) who was in town for a Sci-Fi convention. I thought the camera was supposed to add 15 pounds - that man must have worn a girdle on the set. Ahman Green was a frequent visitor to the Walgreen's in Shawano when I worked there. He had a house on the lake. Dave Krieg was born in my hometown (Iola) and his father was a local artificial inseminator. Most obscure - the actor who played one of the "Daryl's" on the Newhart Show was from Scandinavia (the next town over) and was a frequent dinner guest at a friend's house.
  12. From the game notes: Here Wait... I thought we were nerds? He says in the article that he spends more time defusing rumors like this one than he does on talking to other GM's about trades, and it frustrates him. The article also mentions that the team "briefly" looked at acquiring Kenny Lofton but decided against it when they found out Hall would be back sooner than expected.

  14. UWSP, class of 2005. Triple major in Business Admin, History, and Broadfield Social Science. Minor in Religious Studies. Went for 6 years. Worked on the family farm in Iola during the summers the first few years. Worked the night shift at UPS for about 3 years. Worked at Centertainment Productions (the on-campus organization that booked and promoted comedians, bands, etc), and worked one summer at the Waupaca Foundry. Participated in Student Government, and was president of both my fraternity and the Inter-Greek Council. I kept very, very busy. Also spent lots of time at Mugshots and buying $1 Hamm's at the Elbow Room.
  15. I feel really bad for the Falcons then - they've been losing with him on their team. Dog fighting is bad enough. But if the descriptions of how those dogs died at the hands of their owners is true, he is truly a despicable human being.
  16. Why be outside playing in nice weather when you could be playing video games!
  17. Yikes. I think DieHOFDie might have some daddy issues to work out.
  18. I love the fuel you added to the fire over there, Brian.
  19. http://images.packers.com/images/action/jervey_travis_SBXXXI_a2.jpg Travis Jervey, baby.
  20. What are you talking about? He was awesome in Zoolander! "Look at you - you're dressing up as a Mermaid!"
  21. I graduated from High School in 1999, and I feel very fortunate to not have been teams with these types of problems. We had the same coach for varsity football and baseball. We were a very good football team, but not a very good baseball team. It was pretty easy to keep everyone disciplined during football season because everyone wanted to be a part of the team's success. During baseball season however, we were a bit more laid back. But you still didn't want to get on the coach's bad side, since it was understood that if you were a problem during the baseball season you wouldn't see much of the football field in the fall. I guess the bottom line is if the kids really love the game and want to play, they will follow the rules. It's up to the coaches to enforce them. If you have to kick a problem player off the team, at least it will show the other trouble makers that you mean business.
  22. Does every player who plays in the NBA have to first make themselves eligible for the Draft? That's one improvement that I'd like to see MLB make - otherwise the international talent goes to the "desirable" markets or those who have the most money. Imagine if Dice-K had to enter the draft and wound up playing for Washington or Kansas City.
  23. IIRC, Amanda Wenk is a very well-endowed young woman who made the mistake of putting up pictures of her hanging out with her friends on her personal website. Someone discovered those photos and spread the word - soon there were tons of Amanda Wenk websites out there, similar to the ones for Allison Stokke. The difference there was that Wenk chose to put those pictures of herself on the internet, while Stokke was just at a track meet and a journalist took her photo and put it online.
  24. With the revenue the Cubs are able to generate already, it's really only a matter of time before a competent owner comes along and installs competent management to make them a contender. Of course, the "only a matter of time" has been going on since about the end of WWII, so maybe it will never happen. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif I won't feel more relieved if Cuban doesn't become the owner, because anyone with a brain should be able to run the Cubs better than they have been. I'm secretly pulling for Daniel Snyder - that guy knows the importance of building through the draft and doesn't spend lavishly on aging players.
  25. I suppose part of that is the fact that she's a pole vaulter. There might be shorts that are a little longer, but they'd still be skin tight since a vaulter wants to be as streamlined as possible.
