  1. Well I was really wondering why everyone thinks Shaw will be traded. But when I look at the Twinkies situation, I could actually see them wanting Shaw (I don't know much about Sano). So Gibson and Dozier for Shaw and Ortiz? They get three controllable years of Shaw. That last sentence is why it makes no sense to me for them to trade away Shaw. There is no replacement at 3B for 2019 on the roster, unless the mutual option for Moose is picked up which is highly unlikely (if he performs well, he will decline; if he doesn't, the Brewers will buy him out).
  2. Brewers fans already support the team in attendance and the team is in the middle of a pennant race. I don't think adding Harper would add a material amount of additional ticket revenue. Mark A has let Stearns do his thing so far (rebuilding without tanking) so I would hope he'd continue to keep his hands off and let his baseball people run his baseball team.
  3. Well he spent most of his afternoon live-tweeting the Packers training camp practice, so I tend to think his story about knowing someone in the Brewers org is more likely. Josh (agent39) warned him that the Brewers are pretty quick to snuff that kind of stuff out, so he may be a one-hit wonder. Doesn't strike me quite as the HH19 attention-diva.
  4. Could be the asking price for Schoop/Gausman was too high, so they pulled the trigger on Moose that night and decided to pursue another SP elsewhere (Harvey, perhaps).
  5. The biggest reason there wasn’t a market was that he had draft pick compensation tied to him, an obstacle he won’t have to overcome this offseason.
  6. The tweet I saw came from the same guy that broke the trade news. This will be fun for awhile until they figure out where the leak is coming from and stop it. Hopefully not until after the deadline.
  7. Not to mention that trading Shaw means you don’t have your 2019 3B on the roster since Moose is a rental.
  8. At the very least, this move indicates that the Twins are indeed going to be sellers. Dozier for sure, and perhaps Gibson.
  9. Boy, if I had a nickle for every time I heard that...
  10. In other words, the John Schneider Seattle/GB dilemma. First contract gave him an out clause but his extension did not.
  11. Even Peralta's "bad" outings have basically been isolated to single innings within those games (the 4th inning yesterday and the 5 run 1st inning against the Reds last week).
  12. His last three starts have been 51, 54, and 49 pitches. He hasn't pitched more than 4 innings per outing since April, so I'm not sure if he's in a piggyback situation with another starter.
  13. Did Arcia kick your dog? Why are some posters so eager to dump him?
  14. Yeah, I'm definitely not alone as a guy who voted for Aguilar AND Segura on their ballot.
  15. In the "here's something a verified twitter user wrote" category, I give you: The tweet translated from Spanish is "Manny Machado close to moving to a team from his same division." Yet he's in the announced starting lineup tonight.
  16. He's claiming he got this information from his "Stanton" guy, and not his "Ellsbury" guy.
  17. Thank God. I believe Heyman's source on this is Common Sense. Meanwhile, the Orioles Hangout message board's reaction to that deal was "let's ask for Phillips instead of Broxton, and even that return is 'meh' because Arcia is a AAAA/Utility infielder". #FacePalm
  18. I like Phillips, too. But at this point, Corey Ray has it put together, and the Crew also has Troy Stokes. I could live with Phillips, Arcia, and Ortiz for Machado and international bonus money. Am I the only one who thinks Arcia alone is way too much to give for 2 months of Machado? This would be the definition of selling low.
  19. From that fan message board: *Closes laptop* *Throws it into the Fox River*
  20. If it's true that the Orioles desire MLB-ready talent, including at least one rotation piece, I would probably go with Woodruff & Phillips since they need a replacement for Adam Jones next year (or this year if they deal him too). I'd rather deal Broxton, but they may be more interested in Phillips. The luxury tax situation with the Dodgers is going to force their hand in terms of prospects. If Machado ends up going to LA with the O's kicking in money, we can't really use those prospects as a baseline for "what would the equivalent have been" for us.
  21. The sooner you realize that the major networks care more about ratings than broadcasting the best games, the better off you’ll be. Big market teams will always draw more in ratings, regardless of records.
  22. The #FreeNateOrf movement in gif form:
  23. I still want an explanation from the official scorer in Pittsburgh that robbed CC of a no-hitter when he bobbled the ball multiple times but it was ruled a hit.
  24. I just looked up Swarzak's stats since he was a guy many here would have liked to have brought back. He got hurt on the second day of the season and landed on the 60 day DL. In 14.1 IP, he's given up 19 hits (5 for HR), 10 runs, 7 walks (good for a 1.814 WHIP). Obviously he's working himself back from an injury, so this one may be chalked up to just luck, but we may have dodged another bullet there.
  25. And exactly as many World Series titles as the Indians since the trade. How did Matt LaPorta work out? The insane thing is thinking that cashing in prospect chips for major league production is always a good or bad idea. Baseball is a pragmatic game. Sometimes it does make sense to allocate resources to the big league club. The Brewers got exactly what they wanted out of the Sabathia deal, a shot at the postseason. They got there and it didn't work out. If they had won a title with Sabathia, I doubt this post gets made. And if the Indians would have taken Taylor Green instead of Brantley, I doubt this post gets made. The other way to look at it is, if the Brewers had kept all the guys they traded for Sabathia, does that move the needle a whole lot on the Brewers winning a World Series in the interim? I don't see how it does. Another way of looking at it is the trade sent the Brewers to the postseason for the first time in a quarter century, while LaPorta completely flamed out and the Indians were fortunate that the much lesser prospect in the deal (Brantley) turned into a good player. The Brewers sold high on a prospect (LaPorta) that never amounted to anything. That trade easily could have been them trading the best pitcher in baseball for half a season (and losing the comp pick) for absolutely nothing had Brantley not saved that trade for them. The real travesty in the Sabathia saga for the Brewers is Mark Teixeira being rated a fraction of a point better than Sabathia which sent that Yankees 1st round pick to the Angels (who then drafted Mike Trout), while the Brewers ended up with a 2nd round pick instead. We got a higher comp pick for losing Brian Shouse than Sabathia.
