  1. I think that a favorable Sept. schedule will get us in to the playoffs. With the quick start last year we became the hunted and the team could not handle it. This year I think we will be lurking in the weeds, playing better and better as the year goes on. Then in Sept. we will catch that team from Chicago and win the division.
  2. Yes Gagne should get a blown save, but there is so much blame to spread around, the blame is running thin.
  3. These guys are still young and trying to learn how to be consistant ball players. That's what I keep telling myself at least. Same here. Maybe it is the frustration of the last few games that makes me forget that some of these guys are the same age as me, and I screw up approximately a thousand times a day.
  4. I would say it reflects much more on the players. I would also, but I am starting to wonder if this team is developing into a winner or just treading water. We do the same stupid stuff as last year, and the year before. Is that a player thing or a manager thing? I guess it is both really.
  5. This team has played sloppy all year. Today is more of the same. Some spotty defense Poor situational hitting (man on 1st no outs, pop up bunt followed by swinging strike out) Bullpen collapse (granted that has not happened much this year, but today it did) Now some of this reflects on the manager, but some of it also reflects on the players.
  6. At a way Prince. Here we go guys.
  7. Should be an E-4, but won't - "because you can't assume a double play". Why not? I can! And this isn't the first time Rickie's spiked one of those DP throws this year, but it won't show up in the stats. Gagne gets a blown save and an earned run, but Rickie gets no mention in the record books. Any chance MLB would entertain a review of that guideline, and let scorers assume a double play... they make a lot of other assumptions on bad hops? Evidence that ERA is a flawed stat. LaRussa and Cox always find interesting ways to use their players. Pujols has a bum shoulder, but it should not affect him at 2nd.
  8. Gagne is on my fantasy team. I get double the joy and double the heartburn.
  9. Come on Rick, take some pitches.
  10. It seems every pitcher we face gets a hit.
  11. Good win. If we think our bullpen/staff is in any way shaky, how do the Mets fans feel? With that staff it will be real hard to take first in that division.
  12. I just wanted to say, Woogie you spoil us.
  13. I was listening to the Baseball Today podcast yesterday and Peter Pascarelli was saying the same thing. He said that the Mets are in trouble if they think Vargas will solve all of their problems. Also it would help the Mets if Reyes could pull his head out of his behind, I still think last years finish is bothering him. Hopefully he stays in his funk through the series.
  14. Sorry to hear about this TLB, however since I know you personally you can take one thing from your parents relationship.... they raised a real nice kid. Hang in there bud.
  15. I live on West Washington about 3 blocks from where she was killed. There is a definite elevation of police and awareness, our landlord is inspecting our locks and security in our building. People seem to be a little "on edge", especially with 2 unsolved, apparently random, murders in a short time period. My mom is kind of freaking out about it, but she watches those bad cable news shows, like Nancy Grace, which get her even more worked up. Those "news" shows are absolute trash. They just find the most shocking, murder, sex offense, child abduction etc. and speculate about it, and then speculate some more, then call on an expert, and have them speculate about it. They are just capitalizing on a terrible situation.
  16. My favorite Dock Ellis story: "On May 1, 1974, he tied a major league record by hitting three batters in a row. In spring training that year, Ellis sensed the Pirates had lost the aggressiveness that drove them to three straight division titles from 1970 to 1972. Furthermore, the team now seemed intimidated by Cincinnati's "Big Red Machine." Ellis single-handedly decided to break the Pirates out of their emotional slump, announcing that "We gonna get down. We gonna do the do. I'm going to hit these mother #$%$#." True to his word, in the first inning of the first regular-season game he pitched against the Reds, Ellis hit leadoff batter Pete Rose in the ribs, then plunked Joe Morgan in the kidney, and loaded the bases by hitting Dan Driessen in the back. Tony Perez, batting cleanup, dodged a succession of Ellis' pitches to walk and force in a run. The next hitter was Johnny Bench. "I tried to deck him twice," Ellis recalled. "I threw at his jaw, and he moved. I threw at the back of his head, and he moved." At this point, Pittsburgh manager Danny Murtaugh removed Ellis from the game. But his strategy worked: the Pirates snapped out of their lethargy to win a division title in 1974, while the Reds failed to win their division for the first time in three years."
  17. Hawing, I think I see you on my walk to work as you are walking in to work. I am not positive because my memory of you from softball last year is hazy.
