  1. As a side note: I was really impressed with Kapler's post-game interview -- He was able to answer questions on the fly, and intelligently without resorting to cliches.
  2. The way I can tell them apart is that Mota is the one with the blue glove.
  3. The response I got was something to the effect of keeping Mota in too long, etc. I then answered that with specific examples from yesterday I understood the original post to speak to the overall efforts by Yost/Braun/Prince up to this point this year, and not their specific performances yesterday. On this we agree. Boy do I hate that. I have never cut my hair with a cheese grater either, but I know enough about it to know it would not be a good idea. Well -- I think this is a good point to exit from this thread -- I appreciate the analogy http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  4. I would contend that there are very few who don't have some logic in their defense of Yost. Fair enough. I realize that we all get very subjective about the Brewers -- as I pointed out in my post above -- I tried to add a little depth to my Yost hate by backing it up with some research. I have no problem with people poking at my "research/conclusions" -- I am tired of being told to "enjoy the game" or "obviously you have never played the game before". If someone started a "Ned Yost Appreciation thread" -- I wouldn't pee on their parade. As a side note: I think Yost is making the exact same mistakes he did with Bush as he did last year.
  5. What's the problem? That is neither logic nor reasoning -- rather an inaccurate generalization. I would suggest that what you (and many others) really want is the ability to state your opinions on Yost as fact without having to defend them. False, now you just made an inaccurate generalization. I certainly have no problem defending my positions. I thought this off-season that Yost left his SP in way too long -- I wrote this -- People took me to task on it on this board and my blog -- I was happy to have the feedback. Personally, I am very interested to hear sheetswannabe response to my breakdown of yesterday's game/bullpen usage - exactly what alternative he would liked to have seen. Is that sort of discussion worthy of this board? Of this board, sure, -- this thread -- no. I don't think that a breakdown of yesterday's BP usage serves any more purpose than breaking down each AB by Prince and/or Braun. I chose Braun, made comments, and then further stated that I don't think Yost's management of the BP is the biggest concern. I don't see why you could have chosen Prince/Braun and then commented something to the effect "I think Yost has done well with the BP" rather than a rant about "Yost Blinders"
  6. I don't think Shouse should ever face RHP -- Over the last three years he has given up .839 OPS RHers and .606 to LHers. I think he is decent enough to pitch to a RHer if an inning went L-R-L -- and of course sometimes he will have to face a RHer if a PHer is thrown at him -- but overall I think Shouse facing RHers is playing with fire.
  7. I did it as well in a different post Right -- I could have easily picked your post as well. The original posters (misinformed in my opinion) opinion that Ned manages the bullpen poorly, is not. It's his opinion. Instead of jumping down his throat or calling his opinion "misinformed" -- then why not choose "Prince" or "Braun" if you think Yost has been masterful with his BP usage. Not sure why questioning that is not adding to the discussion, or why it should be considered grounds for deleting a post. I am beginning to think this guy just cuts and pastes the same thing every time he posts. The initial post presents 3 choices -- If you think Yost has done well then don't chose him. I chose Braun because I sincerely believe that Yost's "mismanagement" of the BP is not the biggest concern the Brewers have at this point in the season. Both the Yost detractors and the Yost defenders rarely add anything to the discussion. I don't think that this is true at all. There are plenty of people that I do not agree with when it comes to Yost, but value their overall opinion. I have been one of the first anti-Yost guys on this board, but I can honestly say that I never thought that the pro-Yost people didn't contribute anything to discussions. Some of us actually defend our opinion with logic. Absolutely -- the above quote though contains more scolding than logic. If you can find any logic/reasonings in the above post, I would like to see it.
  8. If Melvin is going to misuse guys because of his own pride, so be it. I think that this happens all the time. Melvin would not be the first or the last. Gagne wouldn't be sent down to garbage time not because he makes a lot of money but because Melvin thinks he's a very good pitcher. If Gagne "lost it" -- I am not talking about a couple of rough outings -- but if became apparent Gagne was not able to pitch at a high level, Gagne would not be released or relegated to garbage time. Melvin took a pretty decent risk when he signed Turnbow after only a single good year in 2005. At this point, Melvin realizes he was wrong, which is why his role HAS drastically changed since 2005. Right, however the financial investment in Turnbow keeps the Brewers from releasing him or dumping off to another team. When Turnbow was ineffective in 2006, they just quit using him, instead of sending him out in garbage time. I think DM knew that he had 2 more years of Tbow, and had to salvage him for 2007 and 2008 rather than throwing him to the wolves.
  9. I wouldn't immediately discredit Lohse. I'm not -- just like Kapler batting over .400, I am not going to hold my breath thinking that Lohse is going to keep his ERA around 1.04. All I am saying is that the Cardinal fans, have to be excited about getting a boost from a guy like Lohse. I have to think Cardinal fans were not terribly excited about Lohse opening the season for them, but he has pitched (so far) like a front end rotation guy. Mulder will be back soon (he is rehabbing in single A) and then Lohse will get pushed down in the rotation, much like Kapler will when Cameron returns. So far the $4.25M the Cards spent on Lohse has been well worth it, if he can keep his team's head above water until the big guns get healthy
  10. If I have to chose one -- I think Braun has to make some adjustments.... but I am confident that he will work things out. Prince is going to get his HRs. I am sure a lot of pitchers have spent the off-season looking for holes in Braun's swing -- and Ryan will just have to counter what pitchers are doing to him. If there is one thing that legitimately concerns me it is the team defense. They do not look very tight so far. Yes we all have watched the games. You hate Yost and need to speak it over and over, like many others...... I really don't want to be the sort of guy that complains about posters, but if we are truly trying to "keep Brewerfan clean", how do posts like this not get deleted? The initial post gave three options to pick from (Braun/Prince/Yost) -- inevitably someone is going to pick Yost and then posters like the above chime in with the same tired post telling people to watch the game and "enjoy themselves" adding nothing to the discussion. I also realize (as I am sure almost all here do) it is early in the season, but why can't we have a little fun talking about Prince's 0HRs and/or Brauns 0BBs?
  11. There is no doubt that Gabe Kapler has made the most of his opportunities, and he should get a cookie for that. I would be totally cool with Kapler+Gross as our #4,#5 OFs and first PHers (depending on the pitcher) off the bench -- It sucks to have to run Counsell out to face LHers, but having Kapler+Gross gives us some pop off of the bench regardless of the pitcher. As others have pointed out, he is not likely to sustain this sort of hitting, but he has certainly kept the team together until Cameron gets back. He sort of reminds me of Kyle Lohse who is doing a great job so far in St. Louis. holding places for Carpenter and Mulder. He certainly isn't going to keep producing like he currently is, but the Cardinal fans have to be excited that they are 2-1 in his first three starts.
  12. The only time I ever say anything is when someone is confused as to what happened on the field, like a pitching change, or a double switch -- things like that. But if 2 people are talking about whether Ned Yost sucks or not, I mind my own business.
  13. How Turnbow should be used has nothing to do with his salary. It's completely irrelevant. I don't think this is true -- McClung will get sent to Nashville before Mota does. If Gagne struggles he will go down to "setup" instead of getting demoted all the way down to garbage time.
  14. Brawl is really cool. Picked it up a few days ago and love it....or I think I would. My kids have not stopped playing. Yeah my kids can't stop playing this game.
  15. That Turnbow avatar is the best on this board. I don't think Ned has the slightest idea what to do with Turnbow
  16. So I just made some pretty yummy nachos and felt the need to share. I mixed Tostitos with white queso sauce, salsa, and a cut up New Orleans style sausage. Spooned that over a single layer of chips and added some shredded cheese. Baked at 450 degrees for about 5 minutes. I'm confused -- I mixed Tostitos with white queso sauce, salsa, and a cut up New Orleans style sausage did you mix the chips into the queso/salsa -- or did you drizzle the queso over the chips. If you would -- please take a picture of this before you put it in the oven, so I can see how you did this, this sounds great!
  17. "It's a placebo," Yost said. If this is truly what Ned believes, why make the change in the first place
  18. But it's really not Gross' fault the team plays him out of position when their everyday right fielder would be the better option for center. Gross is just fine defensively as a right fielder. Yeah -- In fact after watching a couple of Hart's throws to the plate, I really wonder if Gross's arm in RF wouldn't be an upgrade over Hart. I am also tickled that Kapler is making the most out of his opportunity so far.
  19. For me -- I'd like to see him moved off of 2b so his defense doesnt cancel out his offense
  20. Patience sucks, but I wonder how much Cleveland is kicking themselves for not waiting a little longer with Phillips. Phillips had about 400 ABs when Cleveland dumped him -- Weeks has about 3 times that. It's not correct to compare Phillips and Weeks as how patient teams have been with them. Bust may be extreme, but I can understand people's disappointments...
  21. Crabbe got his first MLB hit a couple of nights ago -- for anyone that may have missed that.
  22. I was wondering why it is that sac bunting is looked down on, but IBB gets a free pass?(sorry, couldn't help myself) I get the feeling that most people dislike sac bunting, but very few seem to complain about IBB. If you compare the two events, outs > bases. In a generic situation -- I think a position player (Corey Hart for example) sacrificing himself has a more negative impact, than a team issuing him a free pass.
  23. On this team he doesn't need to be great, but he needs to be good. I'd settle for "solid". I just don't think his offense is going to significantly out produce his defensive liabilities.
  24. I am totatlly baffled and confused as to how this is even an argument. Think past your predetermined conclusions. If Yost does this we will have a pitcher warming up starting the 5th every game if two hits and 70 pitches is the key to getting someone ready Sigh. If every game is a 1-1 tie and the pitchers spot is coming up -- I'm fine with it. Pitchers like Villy start to decline at 75 pitches
